RoMCast Episode 7

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7VukcQHdgQ

First thing they discuss is ROM Art. They mention a thread on our forums but the user has been inactive since February.

Second thing they mention is the new PvP minigame. Laghmara's accent was tough, but I am assuming she said it is "MOBA style" (possibly mobile?). For those who don't know what that is, it is Multiplayer online battle arena. The genre includes games such as DOTA, Smite and League of Legends.

You start out at level 1, in this case, and will have 0 gold and armor, much like she says.

In normal MOBA style games, you'll kill minions for gold and levels, so you can unlock better skills, gear, and so forth before you actually want to kill your opponents.

I've got mixed feelings about this...
On the one side, it's something new to do...
On the other hand, fix siege instead?

Ultimately, I don't think it fits, but I'll have to try it before I give any more opinions.

and we have some more details already for the PVP stuff :D

as for Unique Art, you might want to talk to that guy here https://forum.runesofmagic.com/member.php?u=75222 instead of the homepage. According to the latest announcement (from yesterday lol), he's pretty much the only one left from Unique Art now. Eternity and Lyrii just resigned from UA :/

PVP? Here we go!

What brainchild decided to add a game of leveling into a game that already has its own leveling issues. Seriously, if we wanted to play MOBA style games, we would do it in an engine/server system that doesn't suck.

Seriously, this is a detriment to the ACTUAL content and fixes. You have runewaker basically telling us they no longer want to work on the existing game and try their hand at making a MOBA.
A real sysadmin knows how to change the time.
If you make the same mistake while trying to make up for the previous one, you are doing something wrong.

As much as I'd love to say I offer consulting services, the scope of things broken is too large.

I hope you don't find that your gold and equipment didn't return after you exit that battlefield... Because knowing Runewaker... I think its likely. I'll be waiting to see others try it first lol.

What i want to know is :

Are we getting a level cap raise to level 77 or 80?
Bug fixes?
New chapter?
New instance?

or are you guys as Sertet said, bringing crappy MOBA to people who wants to quests some more? If not let us know and i will not spend one more penny on your game. If this is all we are getting, it is a sad day and year for ROM.

But merry christmas cause Santa Claus will burn ROM to the ground, oh wait it is already there with your crappy salesteam and over confident romcast crew. They probably havent played the game for 2 years now. sad, so sad.

Good we have good players and community, cause game publisher really don't care about the players now

If we can get some crappy moba that gives decent gear, over new level cap, chapter and even MORE gear treadmill grind, I'll be happy.

they said they try to bring new content every three months more or less.
I would think level77 is next with "Merdin Tundra" or whatever the real name of the next zone will be
(different from the internal file and map names as usual).
An instance called "Bedim" (that was the name, and it was for 6 players the last time we checked) is in that zone.

Chapter as in Chapter VI would probably not be out until (late?) summer '13, as usual.

Btw heres the old bigger overview of the whole continent.

http://rom.onlinewelten.com/en/news,id51…_locations.html

But remind you, the news was from MAY. Things have changed since then.

---

That's still a lot of stuff thinking we only had the first two zones and instances open now and are already almost a half year into CH5. I'm taking a wild guess here that Chapter6 will also keep us on the Old Kingdom of Rorazan, simply because there's way too much stuff left even after the third zone for just 2 more 3-monthly updates. But then again, that's just me guessing.

From their previous announcements they only planned up to level 77 for chapter V. The other portions of the map are clearly going to be slated for chapter VI.

Also I REALLY doubt they would release a level cap increase days before an announced 200% XP day. We know all they care about is the money grab and giving you extra XP to get to 77 is not in their best interest.

But the most disappointing part of this?
The players clearly care more than the publisher does. All the work done by rom-welten is leaps and bounds above anything the publisher has produced for us. Including pulling out all the elite skills for every class while the publisher decides "since we never released information on elite skills, we will adhere to the policy of not releasing information"
A real sysadmin knows how to change the time.

Oh really nice they are using us for a beta test involving something we can't even use outside of the particular battleground. I guess we have a lot of disappointment to look forward too in the next patch.

Great podcast for podcasts that are horrible and a waste of time. good day.

I'm not really sure about this MOBA addition. I'd much rather them focus on fixing some content over developing a minigame that is not even in the same genre.

Can we get a delay in new content to get some balancing in some skills and some fixes to others so we can enjoy the game as is? I mean they never really announce balancing or skill changes unless it is major (sometimes they don't even announce major balances/changes). It would be really nice to just pick a class combo and have it be fully functional.

This new feature is just an addition, and while I can understand your points of criticism, we will never stop introducing new content, for players who might be interested in it. Bugfixing is not being slowed down or hindered by new content being added. The speed we get bugs fixed with depends on their priority, how easy they can be reproduced and confirmed and how easy or complicated it is to fix the source code for them. While it might be your impression that bug fixing gets slowed down for new content, it is not the case, but rather some bugs take longer to fix then others, due to tracing them and effort to fix them once they are traced. So give the new feature a try and if you do not like it, let us know and do not participate in it or let us know what you think of it, just like instances you do not like you do not play :)

Stopping new content would kill any MMO with skilled players reaching end game.

So why should I play RoM's Moba over an actual MOBA?

As someone who does play a certain game where you can win actual prize money for playing at the top level... I don't see why anyone would invest their time for zero payout.

I mean I can see why you'd think it was a smart idea "The germans love Dota" but this idea seems stupid in place of real content.

I dont think we're asking you to stop content - we just want them slower. We're reaching he end of Ch V, and yet most guild can't even do TOSH-H, a chapter 4 instance. How much guilds have even fully cleared Annelia in GCH, the FIRST instance in Chapter 4. On govinda, I can count that number with my 10 fingers.

We can't catch up wit hthe speed of the content, given how expensive it is to do so. If new content is to be released every 3 months, the cost to gear up needs to come down dramatically, and the quality of new content needs to stop decreasing. Rushing content would kill an MMORPG, imo.

A good point which i will forward.

As for why should I play that MOBA feature? Because you can, if you want to ;)
Just like you can marry in game, decorate your houses to oblivion and roleplay to your heart's content. This feature is just being introduced, lets see where it is heading :)

Okay I have sat back reading this stuff about fixing crap for quite awhile now. You talk about having to verify, their priority, how they can be reproduced and so on.....You are kidding right?.....How long has the destroyer quests been broke? How many players aren't even able to level because a quest in the main quest line is or was broken (I stopped looking to see if it is fixed)? And the big thing is how can you say you need to verify or replicate when all you have to do is walk in the zone and see it doesn't work.
Introducing or not introducing new content isn't going to kill or keep an MMO alive. Fixing the broken crap in game will decide that. If you aren't willing to do that then who is really going to care about new content when half of it will be broken the second it comes on line.

This still doesn't tell us anything regarding why we should want to do so in a game that we KNOW is laggy, buggy and all of the above when there are other alternatives that are updated frequently and focus on a single aspect. This is clearly a side project.

Marriage serves multiple purposes, extra buffs, transportation options, or even just the notion of marrying someone in-game. Which one do people use? Any combination of them.

Decorating houses gives storage options, xp/tp bonuses, the ability to craft, aesthetics, customization and personalization.

Battlegrounds? people have been requesting a change to these for 6 months now, they lose out on any rewards because of matches that are closed by no control of their own. This has yet to even be addressed and then they put out a new battlefield that will likely be plagued by the same issues.

I understand you want to push new content, but this isn't new content. These are things to pass the time, some help with some aspects but not at a reasonable rate of return. When you have existing content that is still broken or flat out missing, introducing mini-games is like handing us a torn-apart magazine and telling us to wait for the mechanic to fix your car while the mechanic is in plain view tearing apart more magazines. You can tell us all you want that they have people working on bugs but given the lack of any transparency or openness of information it means NOTHING

Clearly, you don't want to play the new thingy, and you really need to go play those "alternatives".
