Another game i played ran into this same problem and i bet many of games are faced with some of the same issues.
In the game I am referring to, botters (we called it macroing, not botting) were becoming overly popular due to the fact the grind to hit max level was.... Well lets put it this way: If you could run your character in the best hunting dung for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a full group it took 30-45 days to get to max level. Quests did next to nothing for leveling, it had to be grinded. So you can imagine how popular botting/macroing became. It at first was legal, then made illegal, and then they said "it is only not legal if you are at the keyboard ready to respond". They tried policing it for a year or so but the programs became better and better. Auto-replies, GM detect, Log off, force crash and send crash reports, etc. Eventually the game quit policing it entirely, and even though they never reversed their stance on it.... It in essence became legit to bot/macro afk.
I see us going close to that. As more people try to push the boundries of botting, and the decline of # of GMs, they get less and less time per server (just like the game mentioned above). Botters are getting smarter and smarter and looking for ways to get around getting banned. GF/RW needs to put more man hours in or else it will become just like that other game: "Not officially legit to bot, but not enforced either" and everyone will be doing it. Put more people on policing it, or just make it allowed.
I personally could care less about people botting. I dont do it, even though i have more than enough resources to do it. I am tired of having outlined how these botters are getting away with it and not getting banned and sending it to support with nothing happening. At this point it is no longer the botters fault, but GF/RW and I have just said "whatever".
I think you need a lot more support for IG issues. Other games can bypass quests for players in a matter of hours if it is broke... It takes Months to get RW to fix them and GF probably has no way to manually fix it on a case by case until RW fixes it. GF needs to lean on RW. Quit letting them profit off of a game that they rehash old material (this is why issues with festivals last year are happening again), and dont even apply the fixes they learned the previous year. The quests and "new content" is stale at best because they are just rehashing cause they dont care..... They are looking to Dragon Prophet making them money... Not Rom... and GF is letting them.
