Siege time adjusted

I noticed last night on Thalia that our siege times had been pushed forward one hour. While that might be good for some, i now either have to finish work 2 hours earlier to register (not going to happen), or register at the next available time slot that i can fit on, and stay up until midnight to wait for siege to start for me.
It might have made siege better for some or even most of you, i can live with that.... just sucks for me. :(

Siege time is not changed, all the server clocks were changed due to daylight savings time. Not sure if you guys have that in AU, but I guess they think you do.

Yes, they do. Sorta. It is complicated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_sa…me_in_Australia

But since they are in wrong hemisphere, it would make less sense for to adjust the way we do, since our light patterns are opposite of each other.

They should just get rid of Daylight Savings Time altogether. The rationale that it "saves energy" is based on a false premise that everybody goes to work at the same time, and that time is immutable. That everybody goes to bed at a set time in hours after they get home from work. Gahh, the more I type this the more ridiculous it seems.

we do have daylight savings, and have been in it for a while now. the catch is, before the latest patch , i had my siege start at 11pm Au time. now after latest patch, my siege time starts at 12am (midnight). explain how this works as both siege times were inclusive of my daylight savings?
was the extra time added for the Au server due to you guys in the US only getting daylight savings since last patch.

TBH, i prefer the old siege. Was at a certain time, everyone knew when it was, and bobs your uncle.

Daylight saving began in NSW on Sunday, 6 October 2013, when clocks went forward one hour at 2:00 am.

Daylight saving ends in NSW on Sunday, 6 April 2014, when clocks go back one hour at 3:00 am.

So, how far out is the server clock & what adjustment needs to be made?

I don't mind it as it is now as everything actually resets at midnight. I just wish that you would announce small changes such as this as it does make a huge impact on the way people play the game. Most of the people left here on Thalia only log on for siege and if you go adjusting times without telling them, they log on check for siege times , see that we are not registered and log off again. our player base has become small enough as it is, we don't need less people.
My only gripe is due to the fact that i do long work hours, i can now only siege on weekends as i am not staying up that late or finishing work early to register.

I'm pretty sure the server clock change was supposed to make siege time the same as before, rather than change it. It would make no sense to announce twice a year saying "Hey, we're going to change server clock to make siege time same again!"

Unless the screw up is here to stay for awhile, then announcement is needed.

If anyone wishes to answer this question, I can then pass the info on the appropriate people and they can *hopefully* change things to what they should be.

Hi Yrcanos

Hard question to answer as it depends on what the siege time is actually supposed to be. Currently its running at 7pm and 11pm AEST (ignoring the other slots since they do not get used) with the recent adjustment. For those east coast states that have it, daylight savings time has kicked it on an hour later (ie. 8pm and 12am).

But that is just siege. Since Thalia was ninja-shifted from Australia to be housed in the USA our server clock has been running on the same time as those servers for all events. As far as Daily resets go, it used to be 6am AEST then shifted to 10pm.

We've never been informed of any of these changes - they have just happened and we have had to work it out for ourselves.

I for one would appreciate it if someone made a decision about whether we are a USA server or an Australian server (please no responses stating the obvious people), would set the clock accordingly and then frigging tell us.

Dreaming I know....

I'd agree, no Thalian knows what the server time is, as it is always changed.

Please stop changing it.

I'd imagine you've not been informed because such changes are not intended and someone is forgetting that Thalia should be 8 hours behind (?) the US servers - or 16 hours ahead?

The server clock there has previously been reported when we were still under Berlin management but I will highlight this for the Karlsruhe folks and maybe the server clock can be switched back to the correct time.

Aye, but for the server clock, it doesn't matter so much since there are no weekly events, only daily ones.

Seems AU DST is more complicated than Brazillian. On Brazil only south, southwest and central areas of the country are bound to this good for nothing time. We all should thank the dude of the butterflies.

Unless someone informs you during the day, i'll check actual server time later when i get online and compare it against my time and get back to you on the difference.

Yrcanos - you have hit the issue right on the head there. Thalia has been ignored now for well over a year and its users treated like mushrooms - kept in the dark and fed..... well, let you take a guess where that was going.

I would actually dare yourself or one of the other mentors to take the time to trawl back thru the old AU board threads and read up the number of complaints that resulted from the ninja-shift and the myriad of affects it had, the time-zone issue being one of those. None of which, I might add were ever answered clearly.

Yes, another spray about the state of Thalia. But you did open the lid on that one.

Back to the time-zone issue, yes, Daylight Savings Time is complicated in Australia. Seriously would not go there. The way it did work was that we worked off the timezone for one state (Queensland) on the east coast of Australia which does not apply Daylight Savings Time. The east coast of Australia is +10 hrs on Greenwich Mean Time which is the standard we should be measuring against, not whatever is happening in the USA (sorry there people - all due respect, no offense intended, making a point).

As stated, keeping us informed as to the decision would be nice. Still think I am dreaming on that one...
