it's simply too expensive...that and the fact that the game seems to be designed around FotM endgamers...

rom is getting better tho you can tell they are trying to fix things at least we have support now but people got fed up and left and rom is a business they cant put money into something that doesnt give money back so i see the money i spend every weekend without a sale as them using it to make the game better.

1 Lack or response, they asked months ago what we wanted in the cash shop and sales and even made a very difficult format to make the suggestions. The suggestions were sent in on the form they requested and then totally ignored . March to November and nothing shows they really don't care about player input.

2 Totally unbalanced classes. They gut the Scout, Priest, etc and all the time buffing an already overpowered Rogue class. Thread after thread points out very obvious problems but again ignored.

3 Constant glitches the roll out of the last patch and event, they kept insisting nothing was wrong and then only after major crashes did they bother to fix it.

4 I have heard that support is better so that is something but still too complicated from the old way where you could merely click on a button in game report your problem and get it fixed.

A computer game is operating in a fast moving universe and management that takes months or longer to respond and react to suggestions that they requested is enough to kill it. Vague Promises of what you are going to do next month or next year are worthless it needs to be what exactly is going to be done tomorrow or next week.

A game is only as good as its advertising and there is none, players will always grow bored of even the best game and new blood is constantly needed to replace them. The only way to get those new players is to constantly advertise.

rom is dying for several reasons but I say the biggest ones gotta be:

bad programming:
people are tired of
a) characters that are broken and haven't been fixed for as much as a year
b) unbalanced characters .. part of the fun of rom is supposed to be diversity .. not every char being r/m w/m c/r warden/x
c) sw beta mode
d) things like PoM 's being harder to get as we level up more and no adjustment being made for it
e) scarcity of good stats ..... how many shell roll it take ya to get 1 tri/disorder (I support it being hard but not stupid hard to roll)
greed:
With the economy the way it is makes I really hard for new players to want to play. Without new players the endgamers get nobody to pay for them. Nobody wins.
endgamers asking for like 100$ worth of dias for fail/ud gear. and conversely dias buyers asking for 200k per dias.
50m+ for a stat
25m + for 1xPoM
70m+ for raid vii (12 dias)
etc etc
not blaming endgamers or dias buyers spefically but everyone!

crappy dias sales:

we are well into level 82 and cant even + 16 level 82 gears (without buying gashas)
still no raid, curse rune sale in forever.... ( I need to X up my raid IX :{ )
and im sure many have other stuff they need want that roms not giving.

Doesn't take a genius to know why. Let's take current player base. If a player that is on RoM today leaves tomorrow is because something is uppseting people, let's take a look on a few causes:

-hackings
-duppings
-gold spammers
-expensive item shop
-fail rate of IS jewels too high (almost like npc ones)
-constant crashes
-without notice changes (like honor points)
-time taking functions (like harvesting, crafting, getting quest itens that takes average 5 seconds)
And a lot of other stuff. I won't be showing every single problem here or I might write a book. The thing is, as people used to say, the game is good has potential, but is baddly managed. So when a player here today start talking about RoM's problems everyone get disapointed with it and start looking for other games. I myself spent like a month without logging in to see how much would change, and nothing has changed ever since. From the day I first play this game, I just saw GF take more than give, so what's the point in bringing more people? Who is here today regardless the problem is either a very great fan of the game or have nothing better to play.

none of what is posted makes any difference.

players have been saying this for years, but it still was being said when there were 3x the players. so that isn't the problem. none of them are.

bingo .. "people been saying this for YEARS ......"

2 years ago people might have thought that fixes were pending but people are only gonna take so much party line before they stop bothering.
<< hardocre RoM player .. if/when RoM working right is the best MMO out there but even I am starting to reach my end of line. If I am reaching my end of line with this how ya expect new players to bother?

Biggest reason in my mind is the lack of advertising. All games lose players over time, but RoM is getting very few new ones to replace like most games do.

Lack of Advertisement would be the biggest reason

but the thing with this graph is that it's for "Unique Visitors" to the Runes of Magic Homepage. Not the population of how many people "log in" or it could be that stats site doesn't take into effect on how many people visit the forums directly (without going through the homepage; Via Bookmark, google)

Check out the Results for: Gameforge

So this really doesn't mean "RoM is Dying", i really dislike Doomsayers shouting such things and used to be a well enforced forums rule that doomsayer threads would be autolocked (before Gameforge). But yeah, i think Gameforge should do something soon to help boost traffic to the site/interest in people

Other things to think about tho
  • Playstation 4
  • Xbox One (coming out in a day)
  • Battlefield 4 (PC)
  • Pokemon x/y? lol idk
  • Other Popular Game Title Releases and Updates
There's just been other things taking up peoples gaming time that factor in the drop in Players. But one things for sure, some players ALWAYS come back no matter how many times they "Retire" :pinch:

Let's start with basic premise. What are the sites measuring, exactly?

Edit: Wait, if those charts are measuring population that log into RoM webpage, might be inaccurate. I play RoM nearly daily and I haven't went to the website for several months at least.

For me it's the player base. Palenque has lost most of the hardcore let's push endgame content. I'm one of those players and without players like that, i lost interest. When i was in Miznightassasins, even they werent pushing endgame as much as they couldve been. Or yet alone any content. So for obvious reasons i left.

For me this is why the game is dieing. Palenque has 0 endgame guilds now. and arent even pushing endgame, yet alone much content nowadays. I mean, i cant play muh anyways due to work, but this just adds to it. Bring me back MY playerbase. The hardcores that use to play on palenque. back in ch2 and ch3. and some of ch4. and ill be happy.
For you to live or die is in my hands, In Gigi we trust.

Congrats, Ruisen, you figured it out.

Or take opening sentence of Wiki page. "Alexa Internet, Inc. is a California-based subsidiary company of Amazon.com which provides commercial web traffic data. Its toolbar collects data on browsing behavior... "

Does it matter? If it was high previously, and now it's low, it is still reporting numbers.

It is a reflection of new traffic and returning visits of diamond buyers that must go to website. I am an old player and I go directly to the forums. I never visit the main page unless I want to buy diamonds or preview a sale cause it was not posted here. The Game needs new traffic and it blows my mind that Gameforge does not advertise. I like to ask new players on Indigo where they heard about the game and a year ago or more they always said they saw it on a website add or in a gamer magazine. We need to get back to that!
