I usually don't have any major connection issues but today definitely seems to be a bit off. I actually live here in Miami and don' got any problems with internet connection, only ROM.

Palenque

Can login, choose server but it sticks on "Loading Character Data..."

When I did get in (first time I logged on and only time that I was able too) The lag was so severe that I it took nearly 30 seconds to open the AH, and once I closed it RoM assumed it was still open and I was not able to open my mail box etc..
Aurora - Palenque
Tubesock - Making a come back...

So were the technical difficulties in doing a server maintenance issues with remote desktop and the 10%+ ping loss to the servers?
A real sysadmin knows how to change the time.
If you make the same mistake while trying to make up for the previous one, you are doing something wrong.

As much as I'd love to say I offer consulting services, the scope of things broken is too large.

Last night all throughout me doing the Snowflake Festival events I had a ping approaching 1 second. My typical ping is around 40ms here in Chicago.

I don't think severe/cold weather is to blame. If it was, then Alaska would be completely cut off from the world from September to April.

Not necessarily true. Where I live, it was approximately 8 degrees F. I have a couple of guildies in Alaska, where the temp at the same time was 39 degrees F. Your theory is flawed.

And late last night, I noticed ping times through Osha (single channel available) were from 109-125ms. "Normal" ping for me is 62-78ms. But there were no large spikes above those. I did notice many delays in skills and effects.

I have to agree with ycavan (shocking, I know) that part of the problem depends on the path(s) your connection and data packets take to and from Vaultnetworks in FL. Toss in things like high winds, snow, below freezing temps, and so on. And yes, a delayed maintenance. All that can explain some of the issues we've been having recently.

And while it's 5+ hours since flatblack's post, I managed to cycle through all the servers, including Palenque, and had no problems loading any of my toons. Ping was a nominal 62ms for me for all servers.

Hoo Nose?

Logging into a toon isn't when we are seeing these spikes. They are random at best, and happen during normal game play. Also, I am on the same backbone as the RoM servers and having no issues outside of RoM, as is Needundead, and he is also only having issues with RoM.

I've also noticed the additional lag in the past few days on Reni. Normally my ping reported by the game is a solid 62ms with the occasional dip to 47ms. Tonight it's been a fairly solid 93-110ms with occasional spikes up to 469-547ms. Even at 93ms the game feels a tad more laggy than normal, but when it's reporting back in the 450+ range turning in quests or looting mobs can be a real chore. Putting items up for sale in the AH can be seriously frustrating!

I've also had issues with crafting and mat refining. I keep getting messages like "Insufficient materials to create item" or something of that sort when I have stacks of mats available.

I've only been kicked back to the login screen once so far. I've restarted my cable modem, home router, gigabit network switch and restarted my PC, but that didn't make any difference. I've played other online games today and have had ZERO issues with any of them so I'm 100% positive the issue has to lie with the RoM servers or their connection. Especially since the issue doesn't seem to be isolated to just 1 server in particular.

I tried running a ping -t 206.253.173.52 from a command line run for a few minutes and it looks like I'm getting about 3% packet loss with a 90-110ms ping time outside of that. 3% packet loss may not sound like a lot but it can wreak havoc in online games!

I've tried doing a similar ping test with a couple of websites and had zero packet loss with every one of them.

I may try doing some pings while I'm at work tomorrow and see what I get. They've got multiple gig fiber connections and a few 3rd party connections available so I KNOW I'll have a rock solid internet connection!

Edit: The attached image has what is so far the worst ping I've noticed tonight. Happened while I was standing in Logar checking mail.

2nd Edit: I did a full traceroute with a program I have installed. Looks like the bulk of the problem is located at IP 69.25.0.18 in Miami. Getting 25% packet loss there! And I'm not in Chicago and my actual external IP address isn't on that image either. :)
WTB name change on my alt toon due to P/S IB nerf.

Aye. I would say that high winds might effect internet connections but I have never seem extreme cold temperatures do it.

Proof of theory: Today it was a balmy 26F here in Chicago with a variable wind between Calm and 10mph. Today during siege war I experienced several lag spikes worse than previous days, where the wind was 20+mph and the temperatures were < 0F. Toons appearing to pop out right in front of me, dying randomly and then seeing the toon port across the map, me rubberbanding from their front gate all the way back to our B bridge....just horrible. Makes for an extremely frustrating fight.

Additionally, it wasn't just siege war, as during the Snowflake event runs my guild and I did right afterwards it was just as bad. There was a stint where my guild appeared to be standing right next to me next to the Warming stone halfway up the tower when they had already traveled ahead and laid a new fire. It wasn't until they asked me in RaidCall where I was that I got the hint that it might have been lag. My ping during this? About 2 seconds.

soooo...Is this being looked at at all? upwards of 1 second of ping in siege wars and while doing instanced 1 per day quests such as snowflake festival stuff as well as goblin games and afraid of getting lagged out is a bit annoying. I've posted quite a few reports in the designated thread as well...
