[maybe exploit] huge buffs from pets in SW

Since a short while several people (whole thread here, also here, here) have reported a strange thing. The problem (as always) is that maybe they are wrong and they are seeing something different that what they think they see... So I'll describe it here and the two questions are: (1) has anyone here seen something similar; (2) any explanations other than some sort of exploit?

What people are reporting (I'll use an example from the last link) is the following pattern:
* they hit someone ("A") in SW by e.g. 30k per crit hit; in practice "A" is invincible;
* they kill "A"'s pet (no wd, a regular pet);
* without the pet they start hitting 90k-110k per crit hit (which actually was expected considering how "A" and the reporter were geared);
* "A" gets killed fast now;
* "A" goes out of the SW;
* when "A" joins back again the same happens: as long as his pet is there, there is no way to hit him hard;
* there are _no_ other visible buffs that are wearing out at the same time when the pet got killed.

Another example, a different class being hit: with pet 30k/crit; without - 90k per crit.

It's a repeated pattern and people see the change immediately after killing the pet. But it is strange anyway:
* "A" with the pet does not have enormous amount of HP - it does not seem to be a stamina buff; might be dex, might be directly pdef (or crit def?) (other players report mages hitting a few times harder with pet - might be enormous amount of int?);
* still: I can't wrap my head around it; when I look at the dmg formula, I cannot imagine how dmg could possibly change by a factor of 3 (unless pdeff was extremely low in the first place, which is not the case; and even then - what pet would give a factor of 3???); (by they way: I thought crit just adds a fixed factor; but could it be that for crit dmg a factor 3 reduction with a pet is actually possible?)

The pattern is repeated and frankly many people start loosing interest in SW slowly - what's the point in getting best gear, learning your class etc. if someone in mediocre gear and skill can just come and you can do no more than to pat him gently... And this slowly explodes - now people think of bugged pets whenever they see something strange...

The suggestion was that if GW/RW cannot find and block the reason for such situations, SW would be more balanced if pets were removed from SW altogether (pity that some people would loose their legal buffs, but what is happening is not acceptable).

The second thing (AGAIN!) is that the item preview of another player really should also show their statistics, just as it shows them for yourself. One screenshot would answer all doubts right away (in this case: if e.g. a player had extra 20k intel. or dex with pet and these stats would drop immediately after pet gets killed we would not be guessing anymore...). This is a repeated request with all the "SW cheat" threads: please, please, please: let us see what statistics other players have. There are so many situations that would get clarified right away...

Never seem it happening to me, and none of my guildies have reported anything like that so far. Once it happened to me, a rogue was hitting me for 30k when usually he would hit around 100k. But my guess is that he was using his off hand as main hand, or something like that at the begining of siege, since after that he was back at normal damage. And i didn't have my pet out at that time, so idk.

Yea I have seen this a couple of times too but to be honest, I don't think it is a bug or exploit. Unfortunately gold has become so cheap that is possible to create a Super pet spending millions feeding it Miller's Cheese cakes or w/e they are called. Likewise this can be used in practice for merging as well, spend a couple millions on a light pet, neutralization bar, merge..and boom you have an instant Frankenpet.

Well, when merging TP stacks, but XP not -> I don't think you can easily overcome the limit of 3 merges per day for leveling. Miller's Cheese cake would be an explenation, indeed. :(

BUT: the problem with this idea is that every kind of pets gives stamina, right? So should you have a pet lvl 500 then besides dex, int or whatever, you would still get tons of hp. This would be the first thing people would notice, and it is not reported by the guys in the above links.

That's why it still seems like just one attribute of the pet is different (say, dexterity increased 100 times) and not "normal" leveling...

(PS: and if you can get lvl 500 Franken-pet via Miller's Cheese cake - maybe pets indeed should be removed from SW? Not to mention what such a (legal!) Franken-pet will do to you in instances... :( Does not seem fair, imho... Maybe pets' level should simply get capped? I don't know...)

I thought pets were already level capped?

When I was testing out with my guildie, I did notice something peculiar with my pet though. I hit him for 60k crit without pet, but with pet, I hit him for 80k crit. I leveled my pet the normal way (based on Vfwiffo's newbie guide for pets), and it is currently at lv 40. Even the crit damage buff (8%) from pet and 4% matk shouldn't have made such a large difference.

I still take around the same damage from him, with or w/o pet though.

Just take a look how much gold it will take to level pet each level beyond 50 - even with how much gold is around servers, apparently based on what i read on forums, you will still need hundreds of millions going into billions for higher level. Merging will only allow you to get max 6xattribute buff from pet.

lev 500 pet is not possible with fair gameplay

i have level 50 pets on both my main toons... holy pets i raised from level 1.

the buff increases are nice as all who have them will agree.

and all agree it is sad they stop at level 5.

Now not counting the ghost stat boosts of pets...

level 5 is 10% def increase
level 5 is 10% hp increase...

whether that is what you are seeing i couldn't say. i have no clue your attack pwer crit % etc..
you have low attack power and crit then yes geared players with level 50 pets and up are gonna be troublesome.

Secondly whats your def etc..?
My R/S full buffs to over 200k phys attack and 78.07% crit. This means you will be hurt.
My C/R buffs more patt then my r/s unless in shield but even then he still over 150k phys attack and 76% crit.. Again you would be hurt.

10% pd and hp increase can not explain the difference in the amount of damage OP stated

i have not viewed firsthand this phenomenon, but i have heard rumors of hacked/bugged pets that can give as much of a certain stat/buff as you want, and it does not show up as a buff or extra HP/MP...

i think this is what the OP is referring too...

at least 1 other person i was talking to said this was a problem in some of the other regions/countries that RoM is licensed in...

also, i heard you can tell if the pet is shady if it's HP is messed up(some weird number for HP, either super high or like 1 or 0)...
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

mages should stack dex. word.

I've seen a video of what you're talking about. The pet screen happens right at the beginning of the video.

*** GF if this video is against the rules, go ahead and remove it. I'm not trying to break any rules, just trying to address the issue the OP has brought up.

<clears throat>

While Ziav's post and video had already been viewed a number of times, and responses made, I've edited out the video link and made the other posts go *poof*. We don't allow videos of hacked accounts, toons, gear, and pets. I've decided to leave the single image intact.

I can't say for certain *where* the video was made, but I'm going to use an edjimacated guess that it may have been from Tahadi Games' RoM server--which is now defunct. There were/are indications of that in the video.

There have been stories/rumors that one of the reasons Tahadi shut down their game was massive character and gear hacking, along with massive duping of gear, gold, and diamonds. That's possible, but I cannot confirm it.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion.

Ya I didn't want to cause any drama with the video and at the time I didn't have the screenshot. Thanks for editing what you did and leaving the screenshot up. I'll make sure to not post similar videos in the future and just screenshot the parts that may be relevant to that discussion.
