powerleveling a toon with honor party past lvl 30 now banworthy?

ok so i was warned today that powerleveling a toon past level 30 using a honor party is illegal and the rule would be applied now. I would like some clarifications from the gm/cm concerning that. got a few questions.
1) just would like a confirmation it's not just the other ppl scaring me, you really get banned if you plvl in tosh a toon over lvl 30.
2) if you start a toon from lvl 1 can you keep going until the honor party expires or do you need to close the party?
3) what explains the change in mentality concerning powerleveling, honor parties have been used to powerlevel past lvl 30 since chapter 1 i heard, and no one got banned for it, what motivates the change in mentality now?

Starting a party at level 1 and continuing until it expires won't get you banned. What will is using an exploit to restart another party after the lower level toon is over level 30. You'll have to search, but a GM posted on this topic a while ago.

And you also have to be level 1, not 87/87 on another classes and choose to level another class from level 1 for 3 hours. It says so on the honor party scroll. As soon as you have one class above 30 it shouldn't be used anymore. Yes people exploit it, yes people still advertise it in world chat and trade chat and still do it. But i wouldn't advise testing the GM's patience, they have a job to do.

If you use an exploit to found honor party -> yes it is bannable

If you make honorgroup with, ONE player, who is below 30 with ALL classes (time of founding party) then it's legal.
-> Try to create honor party, if you or your partner don't met this requirements
-> will not work (without "workaround"[=exploit])

Messages:
  • If player is level 30+ (even if it's sixth class):
"*name* has a level above 30 and cannot be invited."

  • If you try to invite second player:
"There is already someone in need of mentoring in the party. It is not possible that multiple players receive mentoring in an Honor Party."

^ Grimthar's post pretty much sums it up. If you start an honor party with someone above level 30, it is an exploit, and you can be banned. Please note that this has ALWAYS been an exploit, and has ALWAYS been against the rules. This is nothing new, as the description of the honor party hasn't changed.

If you manage to level up past 30 in the honor party it is not an exploit since the limiting factor on an honor party is time limit (3 hours), not level cap. Just so long as the honor party was created with a character that was below level 30, you're fine.

Also note that the character you're creating the honor party with must have ALL his classes (even reserve 3rd, 4th, etc) classes below level 30. No class on the character can be above level 30.

Thanks for the clarification.

But... does the fact that nobody was banned because of this exploit mean that you have no way to spot it ? Or does it just mean that it was allowed until now ?

I can only assume that its fairly difficult to catch someone. I mean...one run of the first room in Tosh can push someone 1 -> 35-40, no? One run is less than a couple of minutes.

As far as I knew it's always been an exploit, because the description clearly states "for level 30 and below" and getting by that involves and exploit of that description. The definition of exploit is "to take advantage of a flaw to gain an advantage". I would just not do it period. There are plenty of other ways to level up a character rather than taking a chance on both your character and the one you're leveling being banned.

Just curious, does everyone involved get banned? Just the person who started the honor party or just the person who benefits from the honor party? It is technically possible that the person being leveled up doesn't realize what happened and just passivley gains experience/lvs.

Stay curious, since we don't reveal or discuss bans, including who and/or why.

But you already knew that. :P

The requirements and restrictions for Honor Parties have already been posted. That should be explanation enough.

There was no ban being questioned. I was asking if a person would get in trouble for accepting an invitation. Of course the person initiating the honor party or using an exploit knows what they are doing.

What remains unclear is if the party accepter would also be banned in this situation, as they may not even know an exploit is occuring. That person does not have an item describing what an honor party is or what the restrictions are.

Ignorance of rules or laws is not an excuse, use your logic ;-)

You expect a new player (who doesn't even know what an honor party is) to think they will be banned from accepting a party invitation? There would be no way of knowing that is against any rules.

And since u mentioned it, I don't think you should banned from purchasing items from AH. How are you to determine if an item was duped or not when legitimaely purchasing something from the Auction House?

Then, I would like to recommend to all new players to get involved in the forums to get familiar with the rules and to know what has been going on in-game. They also have to learn how to communicate with us and what kind of information they shouldn't give out to anyone (passwords, for example). Besides, if it comes to hacks, those are illegal under any circumstance, no matter what, who, where.

Where is the thread with all these bannable offenses? All the time I see people quoting from ancient threads, why not put all these things in one thread and sticky it!

I know it's a lot of reading to do and when you download the game the first thing you do is go to action. But exploring the forum is definitely worth it! :D
Besides, ancient threads are still good, is like "History of Runes of Magic" :3

How new is "new"? If the character fits the requirements and restrictions, not a problem. If there are other characters in the party which do NOT fit the requirements and restrictions (separate from the party leader, of course), then there are problems. And if the party leader knew of or was aware that the other characters didn't qualify, he's on the meat hook, too.

And since u mentioned it, I don't think you should banned from purchasing items from AH. How are you to determine if an item was duped or not when legitimaely purchasing something from the Auction House?

Old saying: "If it can't pass the smell test, it's rotten."

We can't make the decision for you. But if it appears to be suspect and you buy it anyway and are caught, don't come crying to us that "you didn't know and shouldn't be on vacation from the game."

Just remember that "rules lawyers" rarely win their cases.
