Runes of Magic why is everyone scaring away the newcomers?

It started about a month ago, i downloaded the game because it looked pretty fun. I was a priest when i first started playing, I noticed there werent anyone around in the starting area. I got to level 5 i think and then it all when downhill from there. Suddenly before i knew it i was surrounded by level 50's. They were harassing me and calling me names because i was such a low level and obviously didnt use the cash shop, so i looked to be what they called a "noob". They had these glowing weapons which im sure must have have bought in the cash shop. They kept saying you cant play past level 10 unless you pay. I didnt believe that at first Until i remembered there wasnt anybody below level 50. I know there are MMO's that do that afterall, tell you its free. Only for it to become a pay to play game at a certain level. I figured that was one of these games so i just quit. Well about a week ago i redownloaded the game to give it a shot because my friend told me that it in fact IS free. Sure enough i started playing it with a new character who was a mage, and there was another group of level 50's who surrounded me. They werent even the same group, but they also had glowing weapons. They were calling me names just like the group from a month before but they were also telling me you cant get past level 10. Tired of the harassment i stopped again. Well i went back to play it this morning, being my priest character again and their was ANOTHER group harassing another player who was just starting the game. I told them to leave him alone but then they just start making fun of the both of us. during this, the other guy they were harassing just logged off and they turned all their hatred on me. I never saw him again. I at first thought it was maybe a group of idiots just being mean to newcomers. But who would do this for a month??? Its not just 1 or 2 people, there's like 30 of them, 5-8 different people a time. and their not even in the same guild. :(Is there anyway of stopping this? I tried blocking them but theres just to many of them! It'd make you think the chat would be viewed by a moderator's on occasion or something. Do they only care about the P2P members and PVP? I honestly wouldnt be surprised about them letting the P2P members have their fun with free members knowing that their not getting money out of them anyway. :(

i am honestly concerned, and would like to stick my shiny weapon up somebody's *^^ if they are actually treating new players and lowbies this way...

Its on the Reni server in the beginner area. The area with all the mushroom type enemies.

Not surprising, Reni is full of trolls but this doesn't sound like their type of trolling. I know this sounds far fetched but could it be maybe a "gold spammer" type of person who just wants the game to fail. Are their names weird like "Laljalkjmkl" ? If so then it probably is those types of players... just keep ignoring them and find a great guild :D

If it's happening, sounds more like someone with a grudge against the game. Or less likely since you said above lvl 50 and in different guilds, someone with a grudge against Reni. Just guessing. I think everyone has run into some 'unpleasant person' when playing, but I've never seen something like that. Probably not that many people btw. More likely 1 with alts. You can take screenshots and report them.

Like Sman said, just ignore them and continue on. Plenty of guilds would be glad to have new blood.

I would certainly consider this could fall under the heading of 'Harassment' and could easily come with a penalty for the offending players.

Grab a screenshot (Print Screen) showing the chat log, convert it to JPG (Windows built-in Paint can do that) and then file a ticket at Customer Support. (You may need to register there first, using the same email address as your game account.)
Be sure to give at much info as possible, including player character names, servers name, date and approximate time.

Ziav, I will not tell you what I think of you, it will get this post removed. The game is dying on the vine because the few new players we get run into people who would rather harass than help. In order for the game to remain healthy we need players at every level of experience. I keep wondering why Gameforge doesn't promote and advertize, then I see posts like yours. We are going to lose this game if we don't get more new players. A large percentage of existing players will eventually move on to other things and stop playing. Without replacements, the game dies. We are now facing server merges. When it gets down to just one server per continent, and the population doesn't support it, then what?

To the new guy, I would say welcome. Every MMO has idiots like the ones that harassed you. They do that because of their own insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. Don't stop. Blacklist them if you need to, but please look around. There are some great people here, to.

Well i am sorry to say but seems like someone is just trying to make Reni look bad on the forums ;-( 30 high level players in Logar?? LOL very doubtful. there is always like 1 or 2 toons that remains there for guilds recruitment and that is about it. If you encountered that many idiots in one place, they are frustrated or unable to play the game people.

Take screenshots and get them banned for harassement, no one should act like that and if they do, we don't need them in game anyways.

But this thread seems to be someone who made a toon on Reni to troll badly, just like Cike ask people to make toons on other servers to see how people react to new players and now they start spreading rumors about Reni, cause Reni still have players in all the zones ;-)

If you did get harassed, i am sorry to hear that but report them so we get rid of them.

Zid. When was the last time you were in Pioneer's Colony? Besides, he said there were 30 (which may be a slight exaggeration, don't know) over the course of 3 times being on. Not "30 were harassing me all at the same time." So, for all you know, there were 5 different people each time he logged on that had the same mind set as the first group.

To the OP: I agree with Sman completely. While Reni may have trolls, I've never seen them stoop to harassing a new player. Continue playing and join a friendly and helpful guild. Hope to see you running around somewhere and you be in a guild. Good luck and ignore the idiots that try to harass you.

You may hate me, I don't really care. Truth of the matter is, a great many players have already left the game. Long term players have left recently. There are so many problems that new players will encounter, get frustrated by and probably quit for something else. Gf doesn't advertise because they don't think this game is worth spending the money on, that's so clear it's impossible to miss. I tell anyone I run into that is considering this game, not to try it. I tell them the reasons they shouldn't try it. Some do anyway, but then they get frustrated and leave. Everyone should just face facts and admit the game doesn't have much life left in it.

@Zid, save your "rom isn't dying because I love the game" posts, no one wants to here more BS.

Yrcanos already made a good call on what this player should do - file a ticket with support as this can be considered harassment. That is the answer in this thread and as it has been answered, it has fulfilled its purpose.
