Cerberus as i always i bow to your comments and your enlightenment for us. If more people would think like you and me in helping new players, so much more would be in game ;-)

I never cared for scrutinizer, never cared who did the most damage on a boss, all that matters is that it is killed and ego's have no part in it. If you don't have a tank or healers, scrutinizer wouldn't be good since you would all be dead. It's all good and dandy the damage/dps, but do people actually look at scrutinizer for damage taken, heals done? nope they only think about their dps sadly. Maybe doing so would make people incline of playing those 2 classes again, respect has been lost for those classes and we have lost so many good tanks and healers on Reni.

@GM I cannot disagree but the forums so rarely has good discussion threads...

I am not sure but I think the EU servers are mostly responsible for keeping RoM alive at this point. I know the NA servers still have a small handful of paying players and sure each Server has some size of an active community.

I don't understand why Reni would have lost tanks and healers due to scrutinizer. It's an addon used for epeen sometimes yes, however when used for a better purpose it becomes much more useful. For example you see a player is struggling in doing high damage even though there gear is well done. Well, you can then look at what attacks they used, and how hard they hit, to see if there was a fault in buffing or rotation of some sort, and then can provide assistance in making them a better all round player. This is a multiplier game with group aspect in mind, and if you aren't willing to take advice from those who may know more about a certain class, then why bother joining a group. And as for your comment about how a party would be nothing without a tank and healer, it would be the same as a party without and dps ;)

Exactly.

It's a two way street. You need us DPS classes just as much IF NOT MORE than tanks and healers.

Heck, if you're OP enough, with a few DPS, you can burn the bosses before they even get to you WITHOUT a tank or healer.

Try doing that with just a tank (an ACTUAL tank, not a dps tank like K/M) and a healer without some dps and let me know how that goes when you kill it 4 days later or until the bosses enrages, lol.

All that being said, I very much appreciate my tanks and healers that are in the groups I run with. Not only do we have some awesome tanks and healers in Bteam and on Govinda in general, but they also provide us dps classes with extra boosts to our damage as dps classes.

Btw I don't agree that RoM instance strategies should be "run in and burn" but like it or not that's how it is if you have the power in your group to do so.

@ needing tanks: *points to ch3 RT dia*

all kidding aside, once you are done with the initial clears and are on "speed farm" mode, you can easily drop the tank for another DPS, especially if you have a wdn/w with a couple pieces of PvP gear if you want to be safe.

As much as some have criticized this thread, it is the most active this new player has seen. *There maybe life on other servers* she thinks

For my lil 2c,
#1 RoM needs advertisement
RoM is not expensive, it is comparable with my old mmo which is older and still going, new race just released. End gear in that game is over 1.5K US (that is just end game gear not skills and other things)

#2 I think RoM needs to sell more things: more clothes, game emoticon sets in chat (7 days expiry per set), more mounts, buffs just for fun, love hearts for Valentines Day in a similar way we got snow buffs free during the Winter festival, but allow us to buy additional buffs. So you get some free from events but while that event is on, you have the option to buy more. There is simply not enough on sale, I feel. (I have no experience with AH here because on Thalia it is completely dead, my old mmo you could exchange their version of diamonds and gold; some people played the game mostly as traders, it was a very vibrant market and let free players get anything cashers could get). So, why do people cash, 1) they can, 2) they don't have the time to put into the game.

I used to spend a fair bit on my old mmo, because I'd get bored flying around and just start clicking away at packs, deadly when the return rate on actually getting a good reward was low >.<"

#3 Re: players, yes, players can make or break a community; arrogant, belligerent attitudes are a game killer; you end up with all the nice people leaving and the jack-a left behind.
The devs here clearly try to guard against this in a politeness reminder on transition screen.

#4: Final note, the problem with memory when teleporting is appalling

RoM is a fantastic game with masses of potential to continue. I watched an interview with the game dev (sorry 4got name :pinch: ). I think it is really great thinking multi-class, so there is more horizontal play and less race to end-game; of course eventually... but still capital idea. Now please give us more things to buy :hail:

And go go merger, I need people to play with

First of all the gms used to come on to servers and give out good stuff and thats what they logged in for. Now they just log in to ban people for dumb stuff. And then u have have these great gifts that they put npcs out for to make up for no housing for a week instead they give us already open instruments no one uses and candy that has an expiration on it. Utterly fail imo, That is what drives people away. The house issue btw is probably caused by the festival. How do i know u ask , Well lets see 2 years ago it caused siege issues so they skipped it last year to fix it and now its back we have other problems like housing which is par for the course. They normally fix a problem to create another. Because they dont test anything. We are the guinea pigs.

This thread grew out of a different one: Its first few posts were lengthy and well thought out discussions of diamonds and AH, server size and economy, and the topic has grown wider still since then. However those original posts were very off topic to the initial thread.

On the other hand the discussion was bubbling along, with a minimum of trolling and practically no epeen in sight. It was a nice change of pace, and rather than shut down a perfectly good ramble-chat, these off-topic posts were pulled into the current thread. A case of 'moderate softly'.

Folks, if we've devolved from the well-intentioned and essentially polite arguments we were having at first into a pile of whines, one-lined posts that contribute nothing, and posts meant to bring the place down, then by all means I'll close it. It was only created to satisfy a clear need of the players to compare notes and opinions. But, if we're done then we're done. What'll it be?

Personally I'd like to see the conversation continue.

I had almost come to believe the comments on my server (Govinda) that new players were mythical creatures. I am very happy to see that they are real (no I'm NOT being sarcastic, thank you). I do know that anytime someone claims to be a new player, they are usually found out to be an alt of an alt of an alt of a real jerk of a player trying to make a new persona of him/herself. :)
I think getting the word out about the free world chat/trade channels will help, also, Cerb, great idea for free diamonds-- didn't there used to be a way to do that with Runes of Magic? I'm not sure anymore, that was so long ago... could have sworn there used to be a link of, "click here for free diamonds" that's not there anymore...
But as far as the economy, think about it, put in a request to buy diamonds on your server and see what the results are. I initially left the game when the cost of diamonds went from 6-8k per to 10-12k... these days you are lucky to find someone to sell for 100k per diamond. It's intimidating! 60-80 million gold for not even statted equipment? Even pet eggs are overpriced. A lot of times it's not worth it to break your own bank for ABL's for stuff nobody's gonna buy.
People don't run TOSH cause they can't get past Jenny. Nobody runs Sardo cause they can't get past the lasers. They don't want to have to die, repair, sit in the guild castle, etc.. To me, a lot of that says they can't be BOTHERED to run these things because TO THEM the cost doesn't outweigh the benefits of running the instance.
Thoughts?

Interesting thread here, I am surprised at the lack of trolling/browbeating/slander/and usual BS that happens . For once I might even express my opinion... lol.
1. Diamonds in AH.
they were a good thing until people found a way to warp it. bringing it back with more standardized control might actually work. At least with a cap, they wont outsell or undersell - one hopes at least!
I personally maintain my little world with diamonds, when I buy em on sale.. people know to come to Jeannebella and my price has been $30k per from the beginning at least 5 years ago and never changed. I take a loss in real dollars of course but for game pleasure, which increases MY gaming pleasure , its a small thing and I am fortunate I can afford to do it. I understand that's not the way for most and I'm not saying others need to follow my example. I'm just stating that its something I can do that hopefully helps this game stay alive, in my little server.

2. Game advertisement
Oh yea baby what she said!@ Bring it!!!, offer free stuff .. woo hoo and I bet u see swarms returning and newbies goin, hey sounds COOL I am gonna try it.. Please please let it happen- bring back GM's visits and gift giving and PVPing, then, at least for Grimdalites, we LOVED being killed and tryin to kill GMS!

3.The glitches and techy stuff happening to houses and instances and stuff.. well its just electronics and code. get used to it I say.and get over it. Its not personal to affront you by mucking up an instance u know lol. S happens they say. In all things.
Can they fix it faster?maybe.. can they stop it from happening? not likely...but could they compensate players "for their loss" while they don't have use of whatever it is shut down? OH HECK YES! after all its only virtual junk lol. Bring it on ! Then I wont be so offended at waiting!
Hey ... i'm just human- I haz feelings. I get mad. I get happy easy too if I get a freebee. lol

Nice to see people discussing the issues sanely.
For those who don't agree with anything I have an opinion on, don't let your panties get in a twist, kk, I don't mean to rankle the minions here.
I keep quiet mostly but today its raining , my update is updating and I felt inclined to chat!
May you all have a wonderful and surprising day

I think the biggest thing to make this game better would be to separate it from Dragons Prophet. A quick look at the forums for it shows some of the same problems we are having such a: skills missing, housing moving, teleports going wrong, missing items, festival bugs, etc...

It appears we are the guinea pigs for trying out new content for the new game and it seems for other bigger games like WOW. Also the support staff appear in both forums, ours and Dragons Prophet. Hard to have a good game when the GM's are more interested in the other game than this one.

Maybe if we could get the designers to sell this one to a third party who can take it and make money but alas that would mean competition for Dragons Prophet. I tried it and did not like it very much. I think ROM has a better future even if it is 6 years old. Written better from the start with more potential that could parallel WOW.

I know we are not suppose to mention other games but the title for this thread is State of the Communities so therefore the mentioning of them should be allowed. If not can one of the GM's delete it and accept my apologies.

Thank you

I'm baffled by this one. These two games are completely separated at all levels, only developed by the same folks at Runewaker.

By 'State of the Communities' we here mean Artemis, Grimdal, Osha, etc. Since this forum is specific to RoM, we stick to that here.

Simplest answer is the game is too expensive.

I disagree if your referring to Diamond Cost in cash shop. Too many frequent diamond sales coupled with the essential necessities to build gear to play the game going on sale on a consistent basis. Basically all the essentials you get for basically 1/4 the listed cost.

If your referring to gear and stats ( Non Diamond Items ) I would agree. Asking 20mill gold for a single stat ( shell stats ) is absurd, I have yet to comprehend the mentality behind that....people (language please, folks  )( whoops sorry fixed -->) complain about the cost of diamond prices ( servers I play on they range from 100k to 150k per diamond ), yet at that price per diamond people seem to think nothing of paying 200 diamonds for a single stat. One reason I think you see a lot less diamond sellers.

It does not matter thou at this point I believe for the NA servers, all those people that have the stats and gears are getting clogged up due to the fact that there just is not enough people trying to get geared anymore.

There is so much wrong with this post I don't even know where to begin. How about "too many frequent diamond sales" lol....

Anyways you must be high if you think dollar to diamond/item shop prices are ok, that or never made a set of gear.

Diamond to gold prices and stat/gear prices are server/market based, but have high priced minimums because of the prices gameforge sets their item shop at. It's pretty simple, you aren't getting something for the base cost of a puri+a charge. People are charging extra because it costs them time to farm it and the whole point of selling stat/gear is to make something from it. You don't buy a TV in real life for the price of shipping. If you don't think it's worth 20mil don't buy it. If everyone thinks it's not worth 20mil the prices will go down until it's either not profitable to sell or people don't make enough extra for it to be worth their time. Pretty simple logic man.

One way or another Gameforge controls the price of everything gear related (and the whole game is based around gear modification) and it's too high. You say yourself "the fact is that there is not enough people trying to get geared anymore." It's because it costs a fortune to gear up.

This is the reason people are attracted to "other" servers and other games. For 1/10th the cost people can experience the same or more content the game has to offer, or something new for a year+.

Open your eyes man.

Was just talking with a guildee and it occurred to us that one of the things that might greatly help our communities is if normal mode dungeons were 12 man instead of 6.

The rationale is that as things exist, normal mode tends to get passed over by most guilds and few if any pugs. It has been my observations that it's not due to a lack of player desire or motivation as much as it is a sense that those players that can run it just jump ahead to hard mode and those that can't run easy if they run anything at all.

Part of this is most likely gear, but that's already been discussed. Rather, I think another part is that is equally important is that limiting normal mode groups to 6 players forces guilds to run with only the select few players able/willing to heavily invest in the game to have a chance at being successful in the dungeon. This means that guilds that have more than 6 players who want to run together only have a single option if they want to run anything close to the level cap.

I'd like to hear from others on their experiences with this and thoughts moving forward. Thanks for reading :)

We need diamonds back in the AH. Just add a bound version of the diamonds call them 'Emeralds" if you buy diamonds in the ah they become bound Emeralds and you cant resell them. If your diamonds don't sell and come back, they are still diamonds.

Other than being bound they are normal diamonds, and when you buy stuff in the cash shop you spend your bound Emeralds first.

The biggest problem I saw with the diamonds in ah, was that people would buy them and put them back in at higher prices this would solve this problem.

there should be no such restriction , people should be able to buy and resell dias as they see fit
if they would ever bring them back in the Action House , maybe there should be A set requirement .. so lvl1 hackspamtoons or w/e aren't able to get their hands on dias

sounds silly , but would it not be an idea to do a quest series that enables selling ur dias on ah? starting from a specific lvl range .. 70+? :D
