Hello some assistance

Hello to whoever reads this :)

I recently discovered this game via the website called MMOFront while searching for a new game to dive into. Going to be honest though I have never even heard of this game before so the pictures of it intrigued me. At the moment I am downloading the client which was my first surprise seeing the site say its a 15GB download which is huge. So the reason I came is to say hi and also maybe get the heads up on the servers and maybe a bit of advice regarding classes. I don't think it hurts to at least ask :)

Couple questions

So far as servers go which one is currently a healthy choice? If it helps I am located on the east coast region.

Now I did take a second to look over some classes and notice in the wiki that certain races are locked into class choices, what really confuses me is the ability to sub a class but the mention to be able to swap them. I guess what I am trying to figure out is if there is like a holy trinity setup here? Or are all classes and combinations stapled as hybrids? Sorry if I am diving into this with this type of question but I am curious.

My next question leads up to first character creation. More often than none I have entered an MMO wanting to play the class I enjoy but I find out later its slow or doesn't really perform that great and turns out to be more of an alt than main. With that in mind I now tend to make my first character one that can have good sustain to farm and make money to pass to the character I really want to play. In you guys opinion which combo is currently a good newbie friendly choice that can potentially sustain (not have to sit always to regain mana or HP) and be efficient with not so strong gear? I personally was pondering on Priest and maybe warlock but again I don't know how this works out very well but guessing it at least has heals.

Economy wise is it possible to survive in this game as a new player or will I have to invest a lot to handle the content?

And last thing is I hope maybe someone can extend a guild invitation to whatever server I picked. I find experiencing new games to be more fun when I find a guild quickly. I will leave my character info once this long patch gets done and I am in game. Thank you for any feedback :)

PS> read a couple other post and guessing server is artemis or godiva regarding pop.

Hello,

Your region hardly matters, as I believe all the servers are located oversea's in europe.

The download was actually re-done at least once to reduce it's size already, but it is quite big. There's a lot of ... stuff ... in the game. Many customizations and what not.

Healthy server? Artemis or Govinda

Holy trinity exists tank, healer, dps. And class combination isn't what you think I believe. You choose a primary class that decides what gear you will be able to use/wear and the main type of damage you will do. For example, a druid/warrior will wear cloth and a wand/staff wile mainly healing, but because of it's secondary class it can give unique bonus' for physical damage. Also there is always going to be a broken OP class above the rest, whether it's a class as a whole or a class combination i.e Rogue/Mage

It's best to do a little research depending on what you want. If you want to be endgame don't play a scout. In fact, unless you are a die-hard scout fanboy you shouldn't play it at all. If you want to be viable pretty much everywhere play a rogue, etc. etc.

Economy wise... This game is expensive. Whether it costs you a lot of money, or it costs you a lot of time.

And lastly, if you join palenque I can give you a guild. But I wouldn't recommend it due to it's player base.

Stay away from PVP servers, they are underpopulated these days. We are going to have a merge soon into 2 servers - Artemis and Govinda. So, which server you pick doesn't matter that much, you will be soon on one of these two.

That said, Reni is the greatest ever ROM server and all the other servers wish they could be like Reni. :)

You can have 3 classes on a character, but only two are active at one time. One of them is current main class and another is current off class. You get full skill selection from main class and limited skill selection from off class. You also get some special skills specific to this main/off combo, and they often make the combo work or not work.

Yes, race determines the classes you can have, so pick the one that has classes you find interesting. There is no other effect, so human, elven or dwarven mage/warrior plays the same and has same stats and skills.

Pick a role - healer, tank, DPS, then pick a combo that does that role well. IMO, wardens and rogues are easiest to start with and have long term potential... but that is if you want DPS. Healers and tanks are more in demand, but harder to play. If that is the roles you want, I would suggest making your second or third characters, once you are somewhat familiar with game mechanics.

Toward endgame, you will need a good set of gear. That is both expensive and hard to get. But while questing and leveling, you can do perfectly fine with quest gear and some "leveling gear" from guildies. It is only when you need to run instances (dungeons) that you would require good gear.

Good guild should set you up with leveling gear, as well as answer your questions and give you advice. While you will likely not see a lot of new players while leveling up, old players can assist you as needed.

Absolutely. Good guild is important to learn and to progress in the game. If you end up on Reni, there are several good guilds for new players; I am sure other servers have plenty as well.
-- Rustyx --- 92R / 92S / 92M on Reni (Guild KnightShift). Yes, running the new FOTM R/M, cause I am not elf enough to be WD/S.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

I would recommend you start playing on either Artemis or Govinda. We are very near to the point of a server merge (though date is still unknown, estimated time frame is Q1 -2015, so it will probably happen soon) and those two servers will be the last two remaining for US servers, thus less possible issues will arise.

As for your class combo.... There is a vast variety of different classes. Currently, the highest dps of equally well gear between the current favored dps is warden/warrior. This is due to an overpowered buff it receives after you obtain your level 70 elite (it requires you to have level 70 on both your primary and secondary side which level separately). However, if you're looking for the cheapest way into endgame, it would probably be through a debuff class such as mage/warlock. Currently the top classes for endgame are:

DPS: Warden/warrior, rogue/mage, mage/warrior (this class requires two sets of gear to perform at max functionality), warrior/mage (this class uses magical gear for maximum performance), champion/rogue, warrior/warden, and I'm sure I may be missing a couple.

Debuffs: mage/warlock (good for any party), and warlock/mage (good for magical parties)

Buffs: champion/priest, knight/priest, warden/scout

Tank: knight/warrior

Healer: druid/warrior (great for physical parties), druid/warden (great for magical parties), druid/scout, priest/rogue (great for magical parties), priest/scout (great for magical parties)

I'm all for wanting class balance, but I can't change what's the current things very desirable and necessary for endgame. You also get a third class adyer reaching level 20 on both your primary and secondary sides, allowing you to create more combinations (though only two classes will be able to be active at the same time). I would research these different classes, and pick your type of play style. You could also create different alt characters to test different combos before making a definite choice. Starting at level 15 on both sides, you start being able to get elite skills based off of your class combo.

A note for when the game installs: After opening the RoM client from Gameforge Live, there will be a button called Region/Language in the bottom left corner. Make sure that is set to the US region as it is set to the EU region upon first install.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback I got the game downloaded and yeah for some reason the game did not select the correct region I had to manually fix it like you mentioned.

Well seeing how I can pick 3 classes I decided to just try the warlock for now and then I can decide little by little what to get next. If anyone wants to add me I picked the Artemis server and name is Ishotsherrif.

Game seems pretty fun so far level 6 :)

PS > 5 minutes after writing this I am getting like "game not responding" and it crashes :( .. 2nd time already in like a 15 minute window.. Not sure if it matters but I play in windows mode but going to try full screen and see if it stops. Normally doesn't happen with other games.

Zeri has given you the best advice imo when it comes to class variety. Mage/warlock and Warlock/mage would be the most viable character for a new player as they are usually taken into every endgame run and do not require 'good' gear.

As for your crashing... that happens, but 2 times in 15 minutes is a little scary :s I'm averaging about 1 crash every 2-3 days (not counting from outside source e.i. my internet) So you may have to change are some setting or stop some possesses that are running in the background clogging up your computer while trying to play the game. I run in windowed mode as well, with everything on low graphics and view distance about 1/3 up. I can also run it fine on max graphics, but I don't play to see pretty graphics so might as well lower the strain on my computer. :)

Also if you have any quick questions about the same you can whisper me on my Artemis character: Nirvasa, and if I'm not AFK I should be able to help ^.^

With your crashing twice in five minutes.... It's a legitimate crash I'm guessing? If you get kicked to login, it may be your isp, and you would need to traceroute to the servers (IP address: 206.253.173.50). One way to easily do this would be to open the command prompt and type: tracert 206.253.173.50. However, If it's a legitimate crash, I would definitely suggest going into low graphics and uncheck "Automatic Detail Adjustment" as Rougetopriest suggested. If this still doesn't help, you could install a memory cleaning program to run in the background to help keep your RAM clear. Another way you can help with lag around other players (such as in a endgame party) would be to select the option to remove other player's visual effects.

@ Zerienga - yeah I lowered the graphics setting to super low and I stopped crashing, all day today I have had no problems at all.

Quick update I found a guild called Orion and the people are super nice and helpful so I am having a really good time ty all for the feedback and advice :)
