RoMmunity Letter

I. RoMmunity Letter

We look back over recent months and take stock of what has happened in RoM since our visit to developers Runewaker.

Almost 7 months ago, we paid a visit to developers Runewaker in
Taiwan and talked about the upcoming milestones. Today we'd like to give
you a run-down of everything that's happened since then. We'll also
clue you in on what our plans are for the future, and where our
priorities lie.

Over the last six months, thanks to your support, we've been able to chalk up a number of successes:

☑ The ‘Veiled Crypt of Kashaylan’ instance was fixed, allowing us to fully activate the Kashaylan zone.

☑ The ‘Splitwater Coast’ zone was opened, and the attending ‘Bone Peak’ instance is also live.

☑ The ‘Spirit of Tempest Height’ instance was updated to meet the current level cap.

☑ We merged some US and EU servers
without any hitches. The merged servers are performing better from a
technical standpoint, and we've heard a lot of positive responses from
the players, which is always very rewarding.

☑ The way Diamonds work was changed so that they're credited to a player's account, rather than being bound to a single server.

☑ During the Snowflake Festival you were able to take part in the Great Snowball Fight for the first time, fighting against the Gingerbread Men – or even becoming one yourself.

☑ The rewards system for the ‘Arcanium Arena’ was
reworked to take account of the growing number of AFK players. Now
there's far greater incentive to win, rather than stand around passively
to pick up the wooden spoon. We're also working on ways to identify AFK
players automatically in future.

☑ The ‘Hall of Chaos’ opened its doors.

As you can see, plenty happened over the last months, but our offices
remain hives of activity. We're still hard at work trying to keep all
of our promises, in particular your wish to see the future storyline of
Runes of Magic only released once the existing content is complete and
fully playable.

So what still needs to be done?

☐ By the end of April we will open the doors to the ‘Moorlands of Farsitan’ zone. At the same time, the level cap will increase from 95 to 97, and you'll have access to not one, but two new instances.

☐ Around Easter, the ‘Mirrorworld’
will arrive including new mini-dungeons. This feature will be of
particular interest to high-level players, and promises loads of great
rewards.

☐ We've put a lot of work in our new shop,
which will be launched in the next couple of months. Thanks to a much
cleaner interface, it's easier to use, and also comes with overhauled offer periods and a reworked Wheel of Fortune. We look forward to your feedback on the changes!

☐ It's high time that the siege wars
dropped their beta status. The most important thing for us at the
moment is to reduce the number of connection drops and the amount of lag
as much as possible. Thanks to your help in the most recent tests,
we're a good step closer to our goal, a target we would like to meet
this spring. Another point on our to-do list, even if it doesn't count
towards changing the status, is to work on a sophisticated system for
allocating opponents. We've also got plans for a new map and attractive
rewards to add to the fun of the siege wars.

Of course, we realise that many of these things were already
announced for last year. Unfortunately, however, we had a number of
setbacks in the form of staff shortages and unexpected issues. In the
case of the siege wars, for example, we had difficulty predicting just
how the servers would cope with the greater load, as it was impossible
for us to simulate this accurately. Your support was instrumental to us
in this event, and as a result we plan for greater involvement for you
in the future.

Conclusion: In 2016 we won't
only be concentrating on the game, but on you the players. We want to
work together with you more closely, communicate more openly, and make
our inner workings more transparent.

We've got big plans, and we're ready for a fresh start!

So finally a well written and very informative things to come, tyvm Celes. I truly hope all this will come true and make it worth for me to buy diamonds once more :o

Not very informative to be honest.

What happened:

1) Veiled Crypt is still bugged (I might be wrong on this one since we didn't bother after it was so late). Even then, it's just been a handful of months since it's last "grand opening". About to get Lv97 in a month.

2) Hall of Chaos is still bugged.

3) Bone Peak is still bugged. Of which we'll get ONE month before a new level cap?

4) Arsenal

5) Last I checked Arcanium Arena was dead. Nice changes you implemented completely blowing off all the good suggestions by the community.

What needs to be done:

1) Lv97 coming too soon from when Lv95 HM was available. You can't keep up with one working instance per level cap since Lv82. You're going to open TWO? Lol.

2) Mirrorworld. Name and description seems like more instances. All we want is a working level cap instance when level cap is raised.

Everything else is good I guess.

Thanks for the effort. But sorry not sorry... they're basically lying on the instances.

- According to DE forums, veiled Crypt is "playable". So I guess that's good enough. Looks like an amazing instance from german videos (first 10 minute boss fight since like, KBN), thought a shame that only DE guilds would ever enjoy it.

- I assume that some solution was found for HoC, since germans now have HoC weapons.

- Agree with Magio about AA. The AA "fix" was a disgrace, showing a complete disregard to player feedback.

- Looking forward to mirrorworld. Really hoping it won't be a snore fest like farming dreamland.

- Reworked IS and wheel: *shiver and cross fingers*. Wheel of fortune with +20 jewels was just a terrible idea, and I hope they scrap that.

- I don't think having a sophisticated matching system for SW will make that much of a difference in US. The real problem with matching in US is that there just aren't enough guilds, so each guild has very few opponents that are on a similar enough strength that the siege would be interesting. Even the most sophisticated matching system won't be able to provide constant good matches because they just aren't many.

- Class balance: ??? We're getting increasingly more OP classes like W/S and also nothing done with the terrible classes. Mages in particular are increasingly rare now with more OP fotm melee classes recently and increasingly common melee oriented parties (like a dozen DE endgame guilds show screens of clear, and most of the time you see like... 1 mage in the entire party, b/c of debuff from M/Wl).

- Appreciate the plussing events that have been done, but I'd like to see more effort to alleviate the pain of plussing gear and grinding stats, which, with the cost of gearing, are the 3 main hurdles preventing prospective new players from getting invested in the game.

Good letter, but i hope for once that the words will mean something - not be more empty promises from gf. But here is my thoughts.

1) 97 Cap is coming too soon, there has been a lot of content updates recently, and it's only been germans clearing them, by the time the content comes i guess more guilds other then germans will be running, but there is not much time to be farming them, so players will end up running 97 instances with gear less then level 90.

2) Mirrorworld sounds cool, i remember reading a post on forum from saito that it was going to be released before, it was just boring for players so they were going to rework it, and it was aimed at less geared players i think it said, will try find the post and edit it in, be nice if players can do something with less gear that's still a challenge.

3) New shop sounds interesting, and i really hope it's going to be more aimed at the f2p community of rom, there is a lot of people throwing big money into the game, but without f2p there is also no game, ofc it requires the people putting money into the game, but if you have every f2p player leave the game because its too expensive rom ends a lot faster, should be a better balance between the people spending and the people who are playing for free. Everything should be possible without having to use the itemshop imo, more variety on sales, bring back token and ruby sales, and remove the stupid wheel of fortune completely and bring the +20 stones into the itemshop, Or at least bring them to the shop, and put the perfect stones into the wheel.

4) Siege updates sounds interesting indeed, new maps after all the years would be a nice touch, but first i would like to see the lag on EU servers completely fixed and the crashing tyvm :D Would hope there is going to be some damage nerf in siege also so that it becomes more skill over gear based.

5) Bone peak and HoC are both still broken, 6th boss Bone peak doesnt always start the event script, and the damage from 2nd boss HoC is playable, but the amount incoming almost "randomly" needs to be dealt with so that more can actually run it, currently it's a huge progress blocker.

6) Snowflake festival change was nice, but removing the snowman king for it was imo a bad idea, people who were hoping to get titles from them were left dissapointed when there was a new event, that was frankly "useless" for any title hunter.

7) Arcanium now is really a huge joke, 5 points for a loss is beyond stupid, especially if you fight for 30 minutes and get that, blue team is still broken and i would like to see this completely reworked.

8 ) Imo tempest requires some changes, i think the chests should be bound to party rather then everyone, too many low level leachers coming and taking chests and causing issues, dunno if it's an issue on US side, but on my server and others it's a real problem and has already caused huge dramas regarding it.

9) 2 instances at once is a good idea if they can both be working, for people who don't know it, the instances are set in a DS/ZS gear style, that you have to run both to get all the gear, half drops in one, the rest in the other. I just hope that they're both tested correctly and released working, would be terrible if you could only run 1 instance as the other was broken.

Overall - Good words from gameforge, and i really hope that it's not just words and that the promises are pulled through, it's a shame to see the game how it is atm where it seem's the only one caring about the players are the players themselves.

Looks promising maybe...

Only recently returned since Gameforge destroyed the AU server and Im surprised this game seems to be more expencive now than when I left. Really hoping for major rework to the item shop and get rid of the necessity to gamble to plus gear. Plussing has always been a gamble to up your gear but adding a Fortune wheel so I have to gamble to get the item I want and then gamble with that item as to improve my gear is a joke. Yes there will always be those that say its not needed but the instances are pushed by DE customers for dificulty and they spend up more than US or AU ever could.

Arcaiun Area.... That explains why everytime I'm on the Blue team (even if EVERYONE ELSE is AFK) I still lose? No idea why but seems lots just AFK (Especially on the Blue team) guess that explains why.

One a positive its great to log in and see people around again, MMO's arent the same with 20 people online server wide.
Everybody with 2 brain cells can come into the forums and make up a story within 10 minutes about how they got banned for nothing.
Everybody with 0 functional brain cells will jump on any good story and simply start bashing either us Mods, the Support or GF per se.

is it just me or is most of the problems they claim to have fixed, been fixed by runewaker.. and not GF?

IDK, after 6+ years of playing actions definitely speak louder than words.. so great they spent the time to make up a great letter patting themselves on the back, but people are still leaving, and people still havent come back.

But all i want is the same thing magio wants and most others.. DONT RELEASE 97 CAP UNTIL YOU KNOW FOR SURE THE INSTANCES THAT GO WITH IT ARE WORKING CORRECTLY!!!!!

but thanx :)

Thanks for summing up everything nicely. Would really prefer if you guys can keep up with the dead lines of the things to come.

- Class balance: ??? We're getting increasingly more OP classes like W/S and also nothing done with the terrible classes. ^ THIS.

Every time I say that mages are nerfed (compared to melee) and they need improvement and all the melee's in the raid goes what the hell am I talking about, mages are perfectly fine and balanced and yet they do dps to a level where the end game melee's I know can solo dps instances like pomh. Even with all the possible buffs available I seriously doubt a mage will even be able to solo dps half of the bosses hp in pomh, which is a real let down considering m/w's have to update 2 complete sets of gear.

WTB 70% PASSIVE WEAPON DAMAGE BOOST FOR MAGES LIKE ALL MELEE'S GET. AND NOW THAT INT/MATK HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM EASY MODE AND CRAFTED GEAR THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO SAY THAT MAGES ARE CHEAPER TO PLAY HENCE THEY SHOULD DO LESS DPS.

OR

GIVE BLAZING BARRIER SKILL TO MAGES, THAT SKILL IS SUCH AN UTTER WASTE ON WL/M, SPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT WL/M'S DONT EVEN USE THE TINY AMOUNT OF FIRE BASED SKILL THEY HAVE IN THEIR ARSENAL BECAUSE THOSE SKILLS ARE JUST JUNK.

Believe it when we see it. Remember "the Pit"? Mr. all-talk-no-action. Been playing a few years now and always the same rhetoric. GF could at least have the decency to blush when they make statements like this. Hopefully I'm wrong (ya, I've said that before too). A word of advice GF, if you really do plan to do this, sooner would be better than later....just sayin...while you still have some players logging on....

As we are heading into summer, maybe we can get a more defined update on some of these things. And of course I gotta throw my 2 cents in :P

  • New zone and instances are really nice, props to you guys for having a working, enjoyable instance for once.
  • Mirrorworld is just another daily grind, that offers 'meh' rewards. A buff that has a 10min CD, and basically an infinite supply of BAS and Phoenix's. BAS are cool, this many phoenix are nice in instances, but now in siege, i feel like its just who has more lives now. idk
  • New shop? worked hard on it? a huge failure to the majority. +20s are impossible, but imo, they are just phasing it out....one can only hope!
  • SIEGE WAR out of BETA? is this still a thing....new maps? better rewards? no more lag and crashes? anything? nerf to k/m?! (i joke...or am I...)

And from the comments, any idea of class balances/changes? nerf to k/m >.> i joke ah ha ah <.<
