Mirror world- why is my damage taken so extremely variable?

Normally for mirror world I run tower and ruins on my mage. I can usually gather a group of 5-6 mobs, stun and then purge them. For the 2nd weekend this has happened. Normally I only drop to about half health at the worst in group of mobs. Today, I had 2 mobs kill me in 3 seconds. The run I tried before that 5 of them killed me in 4 seconds. Here is a screenshot of my combat log. That merciless chmoper DOT should not be variable, at least not to that extreme. Range of 600 damage to 15,000 damage. Their regular hit damage was much higher than normal as well. I had the correct gear on.

Merciless Chomp is a hit+a bleed effect. Similar to vampire arrows or shadowstab, the bleed effect is relatively small in comparison to the initial hit, but is still stated in the combat log as merciless chomp/vamp arrows/ss/etc. If you can absorb, immune, or avoid the initial hit, the bleed effect does not appear.

Although I am interested in the other part. The part about handling a group just fine, then later being taken down by just 2 enemies in no time. I seem to have encountered the same thing that mobs seem much stronger(or weaker) from run to run. It seemed to me to happen when runs were done at different times, ie 10am compared to 6pm. I have not done enough testing to prove or disprove my paranoia, so if anyone else could help with that-much appreciated.

Merciless chomper stacks as a bleed, and it's a % hp dot i think too, so the more hp you have the faster it'll... chomp xD

i have run Dynamic Mirror Shrine as m/p , the monsters inside ( physical dmg ) were hitting me harder than before and also the bleeds ( 6% hp/sec ) i was left with 10-20% hp many times, maybe they got stronger after last patch idk

Certain mirror worlds seem significantly easier than others and then the others just feel like a big pain in the butt to do at all, hell it even got me to switch back to K/P after all this time of trying to get k/m going and/or even a m/X going on

ironically, the tank mirror world instances have the most % damage, which is more punishing to higher HP chars (*cough* tanks *cough*). I am not sure if this is intended, or even considered.

They probably thought, oh, people going in here will have lots of HP, so we better make it % based. Fine, I stopped going in on K/W and just go in on a DPS class combo. Face it, they made it easy for the ranged classes and very difficult to impossible for the up close and personal. OP should have it easy if he changes tactics. I know it is fun to gather mobs and purge them, but when I go in on my Warlock they are all single target one hits. Slower, but safer. For the worms in Cave of the Water Dragon, it is almost a requirement to one hit them before they immune. For Tower oww it is only the guards and Mystic Altar, the bats.

My DPS isn't enough for mage or k/m, but considering the way that the % of HP is handled, holy smite + truth shield bash keeps the % health stuff at bay pretty well, the only problem is the cons of k/p in the first place, not enough DPS but I get far enough into it that it does the job well enough. But the biggest issue is the fact that ranged DPS REALLY does benefit from the factor of not having to be near that stuff at all (I shoulda rerolled a long time ago :dead: ).

If you have a silence skill, use it first in case you don't one-hit it.

Yeah, I learned to silence those worms fast. I have had to change tactics on ruins mirror., but since the mats will eventually climb to purple level and above needed. I am only doing tower now or i will never have enough charges for combining mats, even using mules.

I checked out mirror world again this weekend. I ran 3 runs of mirror tower. I had the same gear each time and relogged after each run. the first 2 runs the mobs were white hitting me for 10,000. The 3rd run they would hit for 2000-3000. Most of the time, that 2000-3000 is the normal damage.

It makes me think of the furious versions on the world bosses, only the rewards are the same whether the mirror mobs hit low or high.

Edit: 2nd tower run today and mobs were white hitting for 15,000-17,000. Still have proper gear on.
