player dmg reduction

Is there a cap to player dmg reduction? if so what is it?

I ask cuz with all 7 pieces of honor gear I get 52.5% reduction (62.5% with legendary pet on) and then with full forge buff I get another 45% reduction, that should reduce player dmg by more than 100%. but that is not the case.

that brings another question: if we over-buff on player reduction does it effect us negatively like over-buffing xp/tp/drop rate cap?

don't quote me on this, but I'm fairly sure it should be multiplicative, like nearly every other stacking aspect in RoM (particularly all other damage reduction buffs).

Cike is correct, things like zodiac pet buff, forge buff, and honor gear is multiplicative. Where as class skills and ISS skills are *in almost every case* are added together in a way where a 100% reduction can be reached.

ex. key rescue 40% + elven amulet 20% + arrow shield (iss) 35% + keen will (iss) 5%

will give you a complete reduction of any physical hit to 1-0 damage.

Where as without say elven amulet (so only 80% additive) a 1,000,000 would hit you for 200,000 with no honor gear.

and if you where wearing honor gear with the same 80% additive skills used on a 1,000,000 hit, you'd take 100,000 damage approx.

Note- ** skill that still doesn't work properly is rune guardian, a champion iss damage reduction. it is multiplicative rather additive. **

And to answer your question about overbuffing it, don't have to worry about that at all, personally I've never seen a negative impact when it comes to over buffing damage reducing skills, and the multiplicative buffs work differently and have no chance of over buffing at all.

If you want a simple test just use sense of danger -95% dmg + any other damage reducing skill other classes can give. key rescue, holy candle shield, hall of dead heroes ect.

So does it mean that using just the honor gear and zodiac pets is useless without other skills - there will be no reduction in damage whatsoever?

no, it actually means the opposite. (random numbers incoming) for example, if you have 10% damage reduction, you will take 90% of the full damage. if you have another 10% damage reduction added multiplicatively, you take 0.9*0.9 of full damage, or 81% of full damage. from this, we can see that your first "10%" damage reduction buff is doing the full 10%, while any subsequent buff will do a smaller raw magnitude of reduction based on the full damage (essentially you are taking a constant fraction of an ever decreasing total).

in essence, if you only consider the numerical reduction, you start to see diminishing returns as you buff to higher reduction values.

i'm not sure how good of an explanation this is, but i gave it a shot.

Where will this initial 10% damage reduction come from? Where will any initial damage reduction come from so that the bonuses from honor gear and zodiac pets can be multiplied to it?

the initial reduction is anything that gives you reduction. to answer your original question: you don't need any sort of additional buffs or gera to make the buffs and gear you currently have work, no matter how few buffs or gear you have.
