Is there a benefit to being a gamemaster?

I understand that it is likely a volunteer position at first, but does it became a paying job after a probationary period? The reason I ask is because i could do it free for a short time, but it would severely cut into my free time. The only way i could rationalize long time is if it could become at least a part time job if i did a good job.

No, we are all victi-, er, volunteers and we receive no pay. We do this because we love the game, we love playing the game and we love what we can do for the community with the teeny, tiny extra wee smidgeon of power that the position allows us.
However, a good track record in the voluntary staff role would no doubt work in your favour should you ever try for a job within Gameforge. I suspect Saito's dedication to the US and DE communities and the work he did there was most likely factored in when he applied for a job within Gameforge.

Thanks for replying. I would not be able to move to the headquarters even if I was offered a job eventually, so best that I do not apply.

Note that none of the actual GM's live near or commute to the Gameforge office daily, weekly, monthly or even yearly. There is no requirement to do so. Even myself as a Team Manager, the most senior team member below the Community Manager, I still live in the United States and have never been to the Gameforge office. I could apply for a job at the actual Gameforge office (just as well as any of our other GM's can) but choose not to. If you get offered a position in Gameforge for whatever reason, you can choose to take it or not. Choosing not to take it does not constitute GM termination.

Saito just chose that at the point in his life, he wanted to work for Gameforge so he applied and got accepted. It's definitely not or never will be a requirement, as GM's for other Gameforge games are not in the office. Only Community Managers, QA/Developers and Sysadmins and a few other people.

None of us GM's even live close to each other. The closest GM to me is about 300 miles away.

That questionnaire should really, really have a question "What do you think of GM Dave?". If you ever get an answer like "Dave was a wimp and a softee", hire that guy!

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.
