Spirit Guidance

Ok I looked over most of the old posts to be sure but I didn't see anything that gave me a sufficient answer. I have a pretty serious problem with spirit guidance. What should be a totally fun and usefull skill mostly just leaves me scratching my head. In its current state about all its good for is an agro breaker on a single target (unless there's some uber elite for it I am as of yet unaware). It is supposed to make the target friendly and your "ally" for a period of time, but the duration is so short and the functionality of that feature so incredible worthless that it hardly works. I hear of people using it on boss summons to do some wicked dps to the bosses, but every attempt myself or others with me have made to do that was just as futile as any old trash mob. This is the core problem I see: the duration is just too low. The AI completely resets itself on the mob and sends them back to their home spawn point before they will even acknowledge the outside world (even then they rarely do). If you do happen to get lucky you get 2 hits out of them on the other attacking enemies, and then they are back to pulping your skull. At the huge mana cost of that skill, the trash duration, and, well recharge seems about right to me I guess, but the broken AI behavior all makes it a pretty worthless skill and just something funny to play with when you're goofing off in clops or something. Are there any tricks perhaps some of you know to get more use out of this skill or is it a lost cause?

I'm not a Druid, but I've seen Spirit Guidance used brilliantly. There was a large group of mobs together, and our Druid used Spirit Guidance on one of the tougher ones. The rest of the mobs killed it for us, and we were able to clear content, even when our party really didn't have sufficient dps. I wish I'd had a better understanding of what was going on, but at the time I didn't even know Druids had such a skill.

I used it quite a bit in HoS and other instances with funky trash pulls. The only real secret to it is to make sure You use it on a mob farther away from you. The instant you use Spirit on a mob its going to try to run to you. If you cast on the farthest one and strongest one you can then its going to run past other mobs and aggro them. It just takes practice and some thinking but it gets used all the way up through Sardos so, yeah, its an important and usefull skill.

I'll try to work on it then, but everytime I use it they run away form me, not towards me. In fact after I posted that I went out and tested it some more and yeah he went so far away and ran right through the other mobs too without agro that it completely defeated the purpose of using it. Maybe I'm just broken lol. RW has had a longstanding hatred for me so I wouldn't be surprised

Had anyone else noticed that? When you use spirit guidance they run away from you and don't agro anything as they run past the other mobs?

Love that spell. A frequently run with a D/M in my group and it's one of my favorite tools in our CC toolbox. Between the two of us, we can have pretty much the entire trash pack silenced/rooted/stunned/turned making those nasty Grafu Castle trash pulls almost easy.

Guess I'm just SoL on that skill then. Mine functions nothing like what you guys are describing. I just don't get it. For one, the mobs run far away from me once I use it, they won't agro anything, nor will they attack anything, even if I drag the group right on top of their stupid heads. I've treid it in HoS, on regular trash mobs, all over the place, no difference. Thanks for taking the fun out of the one skill I looked forward to RW >.< Idk a fresh reinstall maybe? Will be the 3rd one this month :s

Record a video and post it for us to watch.

The behavior should be server-side so installing again would not make a difference.

Ok i think i understand the issue your having now that ive read all your posts.

as some skills there is a bit of a learning cure to use this one effectively.

best place to try this out and get used to it ive found is HoS. charm the healers and watch the group kill them. this is one very useful function of it.

now, to address your problem with them running away from mobs and things. I believe it sounds like you cast the skill then immediatly turn tail and run. you cant to that because it will in effect "reset" your target. now that being said you dont have to run into the middle of the mob, but just cast the spell and take a step or two out of the way. the mob will stand right were you want it and begin attacking other monsters in your and the partys way.

Actually no, I don't run. Its the mob I use the skill on that runs. I have even casted it on one standing right in front of me and watched him run out of agro range completely and stand there completely catatonic, regardless of what was near him. The other mobs ignore him too. I tried what you just said before I posted this too, although its pretty much what I been doing all along, and nothing. Still does the same BS. I'm honestly to the point of resetting all my skills and never putting a single point into this. And if anyone in the party asks me to use it I'm gonna slap them silly >.<

ok, go in to hos easy mode alone, go left up the ramp, and then look left in the the first hall way with the group of mobs, let them come toward you until they hit the door, target the blue rune elder, and when they turn around to go back farther in to the hall way, follow them, but DONT aggro any of them. when they get close-ish to the corner where you turn right, there are more mobs there, they will stop for a second or two before turning around toward you again. Right now, when they are stopped, cast spirit guidance on the blue rune elder. he will start to run toward you, just hop away a bit, but he will quickly turn around and go back to his group while still green. all of his friends will then attackhim, and kill him. To me it sounds like your problem may be that you are aggroing mobs before you try this, pulling them away from their spawn, and then turning them, which would cause them to run past all their friends, who are already attacking you or your party, and go back to their spawn. Spirit guidance does not make them attack, it makes their friends attack them. So try it all by yourself without aggroing anything, while they are at that corner and let me know if that works.

*EDIT*
just went in and did it myself, in easy mode, there aren't enough mobs to kill him, but you will get the idea if they all start fighting so no big deal. I went in to normal mode and took a video, but I dont think it will be done uploading by the time i have to go to work, so if you can't get it by this evening, ill put up the link to the video.

Ty I guess I was under the assumption it turned them to allies and they actively fought for you. I had seen them do that in clops before so thats why I assumed it. I see what you're saying though if you're basically using them as an agro-bomb, and how you would have to hit them before you agro the rest of the group, cause yeah otherwise they totally ignore it. I actually tried it in hos just now normal mode and they chewed up the blue and spit him out lol, but he did the job of agroing the whole group. Of course they immediately came for me too and I had to hotfoot it out but it makes more sense now. I'll keep working with it to refine my techniques. I wouldn't mind seeing that video if you got time to mess with it, and thanks for the help.

No no no, they run to you for few seconds until they realize they on your side and suppose to attack what behind them then they turn back and fight.

Sometime in Kawak Tomb it fail and cause the target as well as entire group jump you.

Much appreciated, yeah makes even more sense when I see it done. Nice to know it was just my own stupidity and not some glitch lol. I am curious as to whether any beneficial skills they use could affect you too such as that aoe heal the rune elders have. Most likely not, even if it were possible you're still not technically part of it's "group" just a nearby ally. Would be interesting all the same. I'm one who enjoys picking apart game mechanics lol.

Run GC hard with a Druid regularly who uses this. Mostly on the mobs that cc us like the conjurers with the hats.
Very helpful for annoying trash.
