Hello,

I am a 30/29 Mage/Knight and i am wondering what skills do you use.
do you just use Fire, or do ou do a mixture? What combo gives out most damage???

Quistions:
-Fire, Wind, or Light?
-Do you use a specific Macro? (Link it Please)
-Best Spell to put out Damage?
-Any Specific Spell that you use alot?

(MAINLY FOR ALL MAGE/KNIGHT'S OUT THERE TELL ME WHAT YOU USE FOR SPELLS? AND LINK ME SOME MACRO'S YOU US)

You're a light caster. HLS is like flame, but better. So, in any case where you can stack cast rate buffs, just blast that until the universe implodes.

Dunno, more than that, but HLS is.... well, a better flame.

Wait, so HLS is Better than Flame? Wow! Would you still add it in the Rotation?

I was wondering the same thing...

I usually play M/K and R/M. Both combinations are fun to play.

On knight side I maxed most of general skills, as I always use knight as secondary.

On mage side I keept Flame + Fireball + Wisdom on top, then Purgatory Fire, Silence (very low) and Lighting to stop enemry and Thudnderstorm as ranged AOE.

Everything else seems junk that does not do much or enough to include it in game.

And disclaimer: I am still very low level player, so you better don't listen to me. :D

OK ... i think what Cyklown said is clear enough to end this thread about the m/k rotation.

heres the thing, at end game instances, there is something called the burn phase, there's a thread up saying how to optimize this phase a a mage recently posted.

so what Cyklown is saying is .. spam HLS instead of spamming Flames in this burn phase.

and Darkstar ... if it is better why wouldn't you add it to the rotation? isn't it logical to add the best spells to your rotation?

and in pvp ... hls > flames also
because every mage has "fire ward" which increase fire resistance, not sure of which class has light resistance, but the point is there is more chance you will face someone with fire resistance than light resistance.

and its a 2 seconds cast compared to 3 secs for flames ... pvp is close to "who hit first wins" assuming same gears.

on paper hls should be better but in the end it's absolutely not..int% portion is fail and added at end of dmg calc. and the faster cast is meaningless at endgame since you will/should be at speed cap for spam phase. outburst and fire knowledge % > light "knowledge" wins sadly enough

burn phase should be flame spam until cast speed over...then fb, lightning, light charge, stars of light, w/ e bolt overlayed every other cycle.

the dps of stars in rotation like that is higher by a small margin than flame/hls being included.

in pvp never use a cast time spell as m/k unless blowing cd's. instant spam...always have influx on for % crit dmg boost. alternate gcd instants with stars first tick, then interupt the channel and hit next instant.

All mages gonna use flame burn in the end and aoe fire. So fire is a must.
All mages use cc's: Tstorm, Discharge, and lightning. So wind is good.

As a m/k, you only use star of light and light charge.
Star of light: if you like your meteor, you going to love this. It is essentially the same except meteor don't get % bonus, which as you progress, meteor only does 2/3 of damage compare to any other spells per second. Star of light, however, get % buff from one of the elite skills, so gonna stay strong and hit like a fireball.

Light charge: is a ok cc skill for kiting and add in additional damages during the rotation. If you like to practice kiting, make a scout alt and practice with wind arrow.

Holy Light Strike sucks period
Every mage gonna end up with 20 second flame burst and flame is the best choice as starter attack. You got discharge for 100% stun rate rather than 30% from holy light strike. Normally after flame, you'll cast lighting to make sure mob stay away from you, or use light charge to run away from mob, so there is no really use for 30% stun (by the end of 2 seconds, the mob will already got 1-2 hits in).

As to why the m/k still have to follow the flame burst phase like any other other mage instead of Star of Light phase...is because star of light isn't reduced by casting speed reduction. Apparently all channel skills don't benefit from casting speed reduction. So in the long run, with more casting speed buffs (recent one being the casting rune), m/k going to lose out.
