There and Back...Maybe

Okay so, I left the game (quit), due to the market being horrible. Now I am thinking of coming back, but i have three questions.

1.) How bad is the Market of RoM (in your honest opinion)
2.) Druid or Priest
(pros and cons)
3.) secondary and third class? (pros and cons)

Thanks for the feedback and hoping to get some good responses so i can start playing again.

1. The market isn't necessarily as bad as everyone seems to think it is, but the game has gotten rather pricey if you're thinking about going after endgame. Level cap is going to rise in 3 days, in addition to release of new end-game content. I usually don't have an issue finding gear that I need on Reni, but I may be paying a significantly higher price in order to do so. Factor in the cost of tiering, plussing, and drilling the weapon or armor... depending on the class, you're looking at about 2-3 billion gold for all top statted and tiered gear.

2. I haven't played a Druid, so I can't comment on that class, but I have played a priest. If you're looking for awesome self heals in addition to being able to resurrect and heal other players over time, this class is definitely something you should consider. Bear in mind that to add DPS, you will need to add a second class that complements this class... present considerations should include /scout, /rogue and /mage, however this may change for endgame once the new content is released.

3. Third class selection depends on whether you would prefer to augment your healer side or your damage side, or whether you simply wish to go full damage/full healer.

It would help to know a little more about your overall goals with regards to class selection.
In a world of black, white, and grey... I'd be bright friggin' purple. M/P on Reni.

1) Ugh. Still nastily inflated, but there have been improvements. You still need an ungodly amount of dias to get to endgame.

2) We prefer to use both in parties, so going either way is now viable.

3) For sheer pvp unkillability, p/k is still king. For pvp pwnage, p/s is beastly ;) P/K is probably still the best instance priest, but p/s is running a close and versatile second. P/R can cast fast and has some really great party buffs for mages also.

If you want to go druid, imho d/s is the best party healer. D/Wd has some OP mage buffs too though, so we have our poor d/s/wd use a home sweet home and buff us on her d/wd (she throws Briar Shield on the tank too) and then swap back and heal us on her d/s.

Those are your basic FotM healer combos. All are quite good.

Nothing's better for a mage than running into an instance with Essence of Magic (m/p mattack buff), Embrace of the Water Spirit (p/s mattack buff), the d/wd mdam buff and the p/r's mcrit and mdam buffs whose names escape me, which all stack. Nom nom nom ;)

Well, I'd like to be a usefull asset to my guild in instances and in siege wars.

I'd like to be able to be dps mainly to level to 55 but after that my main goal would be for heals and buffs. Not to sabby in the priest and druid area, but I starting to like playing support after leaving and playing other games. Wouldn't mind a class combo that i can level fast and provide heals and buffs for my team. somewhat leaning towards priest side atm, but no clue about wd/d or d/wd and such. currently looking at the elites to help decide.

1.) The market is... better. It's not great, certainly, but it is definitely better than it was a few months ago. Things are slowly starting to even out, diamonds have stopped increasing in price on Reni, staying steady at around 60-65K apiece. Gear prices also seem to be slowly decreasing, which is always good.

2.) Priest. However, I may be just a bit biased, being a Priest/Knight myself. Personally, I love the way that a Druid is able to heal. I just could never give up my Priest. My honest opinion is whichever playstyle YOU like best is the class you should play.

3.) Priest/Knight and Druid/Scout are widely accepted as THE best healer combinations, however Priest/Scout, Druid/Warden, and Druid/Warrior can all be exceptionally good as well. Priest/Scout get's pretty darn close to Priest/Knight, with Curing Shot complementing Group Heal quite well.

Priest/Knight Pros/Cons:

Pros:

  • Tons of defense! - Enhanced armor is crazy amazing. I love it so much.
  • Better heals - Heals are increased by 15% and mana usage is decreased by 50%, which is ALWAYS a nice thing.
  • Skills that complement a Healer perfectly! - Last Prayer for a 1 second Group Heal, Life Link (my favorite skill ever) that lets you heal yourself as well when urgent healing, extra mana from Grace of Life, and of course 5% more wisdom from the Light Fairy!
  • Extra Stamina! - Resilience at current max level (67), reads: (Current Stamina + 77.3) x 7% + 77.3, quite a hefty increase!
  • Extra Parry! - A passive knight skill gives you around 200 extra parry, never a bad thing.
  • Extra Mana! - Devotion, a passive knight general skill, gives you extra mana with the same formula as resilience.

Cons:

  • Terrible DPS - The Priest/Knight probably has the worst dps out of all the comobs. This can be remedied by statting your gear with a little bit of int, but you're still likely to have trouble levelling.
  • Prime target in Siege - You're a priest/knight, you're keeping your teammates alive and well and not taking much damage in the process. You are going to be targeted and one of the first ones to be killed. But this is normal for most any healer.

Priest/Scout Pros/Cons:

Pros:

  • Curing Shot - Shoots an arrow filled with light that heals 5 party members including yourself for about half of a group heal, and adds a very powerful HoT to them for 12 seconds. (12? Haven't been P/S in awhile). Must have a ranged weapon equipped.
  • 6 extra stats - You get a bow to stat, which is at the least 6 extra stats, an extra recon, another burst, and a miracle. Excellent!
  • Ice Blade - If statted like a mage, or even statted with just a little bit of intelligence, this can be a potent skill in PvP.

Cons:

  • Squishy. You won't be as durable as your Priest/Knight cousins.
  • Will be called OP and called to be nerfed if you kill people in siege with ice blade.

Druid/Scout Pros/Cons:

Firstly, i admit i don't know a HUGE amount about Druid/Scout as I've never played one personally, but my ingame Wife is a Druid/Scout so i shall try to outline the way i see it.

Pros:

  • Camelia Flower - Spammable, lasts for 6 seconds, and can be stacked 3 times. Add's a powerful HoT that ticks once a second. A Druid/Scout bread and butter skill.
  • Healing Arrows - Uses focus, and heals up to 5 party members including yourself, adding a HoT that ticks every 2 seconds. Must have a ranged weapon equipped.
  • Life Guide - Allows you to get the 6 seconds of the HoT tick when you cast Recover on a friendly target. Very useful.
  • Ranged Weapon - Like the Priest/Scout, you get a bow to which you can add 6 more stats and 4 more runes.

Cons:

  • Squishy. As a Druid, you'll probably use a 2 handed staff, which means no shield. As such, you will not have as much pdef as say a Priest/Knight.
  • You're a Druid - Alot of people are still not over their Druid prejudices. They like to only take priests places. But show people that you know how to heal, and a Druid can be just as good a healer, if not better, than a priest.

Well wow, this post has sure turned into quite a monster that i did not expect. I hope that this helps. Feel free to PM me here on the forums or leave a response if you want to ask me something.

If you're looking for a combo that will give you DPS and party support, I'd suggest S/P. It has a lot of utility for parties, including heals that really aren't bad (though really more for supporting the main healer, not meant to be stand-alone heals, unless you're solo), and several buffs, since the combo got updated. On the flip side, you could always go P/S for main healing, which coincidentally can also be good DPS if built right (though don't expect to DPS in instances/for world bosses as a P/S). The 40/40 elite for P/S really speeds up leveling, but it is still slow beforehand--not as slow as P/K, but around the same speed as most other priests.

S/P and P/S are both good in siege, depending on how you've built them.

Well i've narrowed down the field of play, so to speak. Now only trying to decide between P/S and D/W or D/Wd and D/S.

I've done a wee bit of research...mostly in the druid forums, and it seems d/w and d/s can be great healers when played right. and from feedback about d/wd buffs, while p/s seems to be a combo that is on par or even better than some of the d/x combos.

It seems even though the field is narrowed down from all p/x and d/x combos to only 4 specific combos it can be narrowed down more but it gets harder as the field gets smaller.

*note* Kinda like the fact that the druid is like "underdog" still even after the last patch that made warden and druid come out into the open.
*another note* If i could only narrow it down to one main class like priest or druid we'd have 70% of the work left done.
*another another note* i say we as i am using you guy's feedback and peoples post in other threads to determine my decisions as i cant quit finish downloading this 4 hr download yet. keep getting distracted and doing something else.
