K/W weapon with shield

Ok, been trying to decide which weapon type I should focus when I am going the ole sword and board route on a K/W. So far, I have been recommended either the 1-h axe or sword, which os obvious for the use of Slash for bleeds. Which would be the better choice though?

I gues either this part of the forum is dead, or no one knows since it has been this long since I asked, I just went with 1-h sword and went from there.

Choose the best (of either) available at your gear level. The only difference you are going to run into is the skill level of the weapon which doesn't seem to have a huge effect on gameplay unless your skill level is *very* low.

At end game, swords tend to be more built for tanks while axes tend to be more built for DPS because of their ghost stats. The DPS of the weapon usually trumps all though. Even as a tank, you're going to pick the weapon with more DPS because it will have a very large effect on your aggro generation.

1h sword because your skill level is close to double your 1h axe skill
