Guide(s) to build a Mage/Warr and Mage/Druid

Hello all,

I'm still quite new to the game and learning a lot. I have a 16/16 M/W. However, I started spending the talent points without properly planning them out. I could use some info. on which talents to spend points, in which order to max talents, etc for a Mage/Warrior and Mage/Druid for PvE. If there are any guides (or stickied threads) in the forums or other place(s) on the web please post a link.... and your comments/advice of course.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if there is a guide for M/D/W specifically but that's what I am and I'll try to help you out. First of all for questing I would strongly suggest sticking to M/D. Infact I would suggest making M/D your primary class combo (Meaning the class combo you spend most of your time on) and keeping your M/W for instances only.

For mage skills there are tons of threads about which are useful which aren't, though at your level you can experiment but basically on the mage side you want to max anything that has to do with fire(Except fire ward, that's pretty much useless). That means max:

flame
fireball
fire knowledge
purgatory fire

As far as the M/D combo goes here's the skills you want to max:

Elite skills:
Magma blade - Max this like your life depended on it
Perception - also max this
Magic Target - I put points into this just because I had extra TP but its' effect isn't really that great.
The rest of the elites you can kind of ignore because they're not beneficial in my opinion and I personally don't use them.

General Druid Skills:
Recover - Max this, it's your only heal...
Savage Blessing - Max this, this skill is Magic Target's older brother, this is the one you want for a magic accuracy boost
Knowledge of Nature - Max this, it's extra wisdom which means more Mdef and MP so why not?
Earth Pulse - This skill seems strong up until level 40-ish where it falls on its face. So if you want to max it until then and use a reset stone when you reach higher levels you can.

Rotation:
For single target mobs my general rotation was (Keep in mind I had also maxed lightning despite what other people said because I found it to be useful):

flame >Lightning > Flame > Fireball > Magma Blade.

If it wasn't dead by then, then I would repeat Flame > fireball > magma blade.

That's it as far as M/D goes. For M/W I'm pretty sure there are quite a few threads about "Mage burst phase" so you can take a look at those. Basically for M/W all you need is the elite skills that increase magical damage, magical attack, increase cast time and for warrior general skills you want to max beserk that's it.

My primary character also uses the Mage/Warrior/Druid combo. So here's some of my insights:

I leveled as Mage/Warrior and picked Druid only after the other two classes had already been maxed (or nearly so). So I can't really speak about any kind of build order for leveling these days, and I'm so overpowered that I can one shot most things outside instances. That said...

I've never really gotten much mileage out of Mage/Warrior. M/W elite skills are mostly buffs and passive skills. The buffs are useful while leveling but are of questionable usefulness late game. The elite skill at 50 gives you a passive casting speed boost which procs when you cast Flame or Fireball. While it only lasts a short time and has a cool down period before it'll proc again, when it's up, it is just short of awesome when stacked with other casting speed bonuses (Elemental Catalyst skill and Unbridled Enthusiasm potion) can get your Flame cast time below 1 second.

And Mage/Druid IMO blows all that out of the water for two reasons:

1) You can heal yourself and others. This is pretty self explanatory.

2) You get Magma Blade which if you work into your casting cycle would make up for the lack of the casting speed buff.

2a) In Siege, Magma Blade is a god send simply because 95% of the time, you don't have time to cast Flame.... or Plasma Arrow... or even Electric Bolt at times.

2b) In instances, the casting cycle I use is Flame>Magma Blade>Flame>Fireball>Repeat. Lightning is only leveled high enough to max out its root ability and is used ONLY to root stuff (although the extra damage is nice).

I imagine this wouldn't be too different while leveling. Flame>Lightning>enter 2b Cycle. If your Lightning's cooldown ends and the target isn't dead yet, you're taking too long to kill it and probably died by then.

well, there are a few things that didnt really make sense in there >_> but oh well lol.

for m/w i found it to be more useful for just about anything mainly because of how FAST i can kill things, no need for heals (and when there are, i have ph potions XD) however, il list all the consumables you can you to boost your speed/damage.

DAMAGE: Useful for instances/mobs with low Mdef or where you already have plenty of Matt.

Crispy Chicken Drumstick (Bought from ancient memento venders throughout the game.)

Lettuce Sandwich (made Via the Cooking skill or bought on the Auction house, Does NOT stack with Crispy Chicken Drumstick)

Magic Tambourine (made Via the Tailoring skill after doing the quest given by Dimitar Windwhisperer in logar for magical instruments or bought on the Auction house as a Magical Instrument Package with a random chance to get any instrument.)

Moti Blended Sausages (made Via the Cooking skill or bought on the Auction house, Stacks with everything)

MAGIC ATTACK
: used for instances which High Mdef or where you're just lacking on Matt.

Loaf of Magic Hard Bread (made Via the Cooking skill or bought on the Auction house)

Loaf of Handmade Black Bread [EXPENSIVE] (made Via the Cooking skill or bought on the Auction house, Does NOT stack with Loaf of Magic Hard Bread)

CASTING SPEED: note that Demonic Ruins Potion is NOT a casting speed pot but a critical hit potion that i use INSTEAD of the Arcane potion when my Flame cast time is already at at 0.5s without it.

Ancient Spirit Water/Witch Doctor Elixir (made Via the Alchemy skill or bought on the Auction house)

Arcane Potion/Demonic Ruins Potion (Bought from ancient memento venders throughout the game.)

Clear Thought (Possible reward from your Housemaid at Level 31+ Crafting and does NOT stack with Ancient Spirit Water/Witch Doctor Elixir)

Magic guitar (made Via the Carpentry skill after doing the quest given by Dimitar Windwhisperer in Logar for magical instruments or bought on the Auction house as a Magical Instrument Package with a random chance to get any instrument.)

I'm most likely missing something here lol so if you have any questions, feel free to pst me in-game on Artemis or make another post!

Any character leveling advice you guys can offer. My M/W is now level 18/18 but leveling the warrior side is much slower than the mage side. I don't have the ability to add the druid class to my char yet. However, if I did I would still have to level all 3 classes to get any benefit out of them.

First off get a great Staff. Get to level 20 so you can use the Arcane Transmuter and then Tier 4 the staff. Its a quick +30% damage bonus at low levels. Later that'll drop to +20% for a while then +10% for a while. It'll take 4 arcane transmuter charges which you may can get by being dragged through the Goblin minigame or from your Advanturer Gift Bag.

W/M use mage gear not warrior gear. The level 20 elite makes your basic autoattack hit very hard if you stack magic attack. At level 40 my W/M alt with clean statted DOD gear hits for 20k per swing on autoattack. Its *silly* how much damage a W/M can do using their level 20 elite.

If you do the whole buying Diamonds thing get a Fountain rune and Passion rune in your jewelry slots. It'll take drillers and of course the runes. Its not a requirement but sure does help reduce downtime.

Then get a Water or Fire pet that is at least level 23 (you can use one 5 levels above you and for this it needs to be level 23+) and teach it "Tenacity" twice. If you're poor get a "Wild" pet egg to tide you over until you can get something better. The number by "Intelligence" matters a lot so a pet with a "6" by Intelligence will help you a lot more than a pet with a "2" by intelligence.

The combination of Fountain Runes, Passion Runes, and Tenacity II will greatly reduce downtime.

The Damage from a good weapon always makes killing stuff faster.

Lastly, get a Housekeeper with "Defense" listed as 8/100 or 12/100. Later you'll want a damage dealing house maid but in the low levels you'll want potions and at mid levels you'll want HP. The most important potion for reducing downtime is "Unbridled Enthusiasm" which improves running speed for an hour.

Mage/Warrior = Boss Burner, out dps every other mage in burn phase, but only work if you have the right tank and right healer. Also fall behind when boss fight require moving around and stuff. Only perform extra good in "burn" boss

Mage/Druid = Soloer due to ability to heal, ok mob farm, ok in burn phase, and own in PVP cause yea...Magma Blade FTW!.

So choose your path carefully before spending TP on their elites, cause you can't use lv70 M/D elite on M/W lol vise versa, cause trust me, at Lv70, you need those TP bad

You know, I wish I had known this when I was leveling. It never even occurred to me to use my mage gear on my warrior. I only started doing so at... 67. Yes, that's right: SIXTY seven.

Even so, my warrior was actually a better leveler than my Mage for a while there during the 40s. Of course, part of the reason that was is because I hadn't figured out how Purgatory Fire worked.
