I want to like Rogues

I played WoW for around 3 years and could just never get into rogues. first off I apologize for that because ya'll are a great class. I guess I just could never get spell rotations and stuns down and I was used to Mana not Energy. So I am going to try a rogue. What second class do ya'll recommend?

For the best DPS (Damage Per Second) almost everyone says Rogue/Scout/Priest.
Rogues can be invisable and also have an Elite skill called escape rogue from the armor.
make 2 or 3 alts and try various como's.

If you want a very straight forward rogue, I'd advise you to look into Rogue/Scout. They are based on critical attacks and have skills that enable them to regenerate energy quickly in combat.
If you're looking for something a bit more complex in nature, I'd advise you to look into pretty much any other rogue. Rogue/Mage is a trapping rogue, Rogue/Warden isn't too complex, Rogue/Priest is pretty simple but no endgame application, Rogue/Druid is a very under played class, Rogue/Warrior is pretty complex with new combinations entirely.

Search DIYCE in add-ons. Rogues have better rotation one, and simple setup would help your rogue a lot.

If you like more mana, get mage as secondary and switch to M/R. Nice elites, interesting class to play.

Best use of Rogue still would be to have Scout as secondary.

FotM is Rogue/Scout, and frequently Knight for third. As a healer, I like Rogue/Knight better than R/S, because I like my DPS to be able to live through more than 2 hits. ;) Any Rogue is good though. If you want to avoid FotM, the two combos I don't see much are Rogue/Druid and Rogue/Warden.

The R/M and M/R players I know love that combination (I have yet to try it myself but it's on my list).

NOTE: You cannot lay traps while invisible, it will make you visible if you do so.

At the moment, R/M is my main (with a Knight secondary), and I've got him up to 58/54. Not quite endgame yet, but I've had quite a bit of experience with the class and so far, all of it is positive.

R/M traps are obviously a defining feature and are very nice since the flame and the poison traps are both short ranged AEOs that are instant casts. The poison trap doesn't do terrific damage in my experience, but the flame one is awesome. Right now with a t6 +6 Peril Buster dagger in my main hand (an averagely good dagger as daggers at that level go), I'm hitting over 17k damage with that trap. The 50/50 elite skill allows you to use it twice instantaneously, giving me about 35k AEO damage total. This also is a useful kiting tool as you can drop them behind you as you run. There's also a stun trap (lasts 5 secs), which is nice (for pesky elites, drop it behind you and run lol), a useful dot (mainly PVP oriented though, with the spellcasting delay), and a monstrously useful PVP skill that wipes out all the target's buffs/beneficial effects (which is an instant cast as well). And who wouldn't love a buff to crit, cause it's got that as well. With only a baseline crit rate (unbuffed) of about 25%, assassin's rage, Informer, and this elite skill crit buff allow me to buff up to about 60% I believe for a short duration. Very nice. Not a huge PVP player, so I haven't used the PVP aspect of these skills much, but the PVE oriented skills are terrific. They don't do TOP DPS, but they do very good DPS. In addition to this, you get a multitude of CC skills from your mage side, such as a silence and a root, as well as a ranged pull (if you choose to go that route). All in all, I love the class, and if you play it right, you can keep up a steady stream of DPS with all your skills. It's a blast and it does good damage.

P.S. the traps are hilarious fun :D

As much bad reviews I have seen for the r/d, we have one in our guild and in siege he is the guy we call in to take out groups of traps. 2 of his poison shrouds clears the whole lot of em, plus he can dot a gate down just as fast (faster than some) of the r/s. he may not be the one to go 1 on 1 like the r/s with their op dps, but he certainly is one of the most powerful siege players we have.

R/M

As far as R/Ms go, I'm a 70 R/M and I have never switched to my third class.
Is instances, I may not do as much damage as a R/S, but in siege I'm a force to behold.
My Booby Trap (AoE) hits most players in siege for 40k with 40k patk. When I have an attack sigil on, it does 100k on mobs (which is usually within 20k of what it does to player)
Paralyzing Trap (Single Target) is usually enough stun to kill a player with <100k HP, but for those pesky 120k+ HP healers who spam urgent on themselves, between Shadow Prison, Paralyzing Trap and Silence, I can keep them at bay for around 35 seconds (no casting for you :P)
Poison Trap (AoE) is a bit weak IMO and upgrading the skill does little to help this. At 40k patk, my Poison Trap does 3.6k dmg/tick.
Poison Flames (Single Target) is a massive DoT... On players it does around 9-12k dmg/tick and on gates it does close to 20k.
With all of my DoTs, Bleed, Grievous Wounds, Poison Trap, and Poison Flames, I can take a gate down in about 100 seconds.

My favorite thing to do in siege is to camp a bridge and just place all my traps at the end on it... if my Booby Trap doesn't 1-shot my poor victim, I just go in with a few low blows and re-set my traps.
When large amounts of enemies are camped out at a tower, I like to Phantom Stab in, lay my Booby and Poison traps, then use Trap Master (Instantly places all your traps around you)... with all that, there are few who remain standing.

Yeah the r/m is one I been wanting to try. I despise FotM combos and it looks like so much fun to play. Im prob gonna wipe my scout side on my rogue and go mage instead.

R/M is excellent at PvP but in end game it doesn't scale. Simply because there is no skill to use when your energy is low. Traps may do quite a bit of damage on mobs but on a boss they do nothing. R/S has Shot and Vampire Arrows. R/K has Disarmament and Holy Strike. R/W has Slash and Poisonous Infection.

Do you say that the traps do no damage because they don't make an actual effect on the boss's hp, or because their damage doesn't show up on scrut? Just curious. And Tarko1989, in your experience, what kind of damage does poison flame do on bosses? Specific numbers would be nice. :D

I mean the trap's damage doesn't scale when it is used on a boss.

To explain this further, much of a player's boss DPS during burn comes from speed buffs/consumables. Traps and Poison Flame do not scale with attack speed like other skills.

ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the info (sshades and mikkehboii). That's weird why those attacks don't scale. I haven't played a DPS role in the upper endgame instances yet (hodl and up), so I don't use speed buffs/pots much.
