Holy Strike...

Holy strike sux. I only see 110% over white hit for damage. What gives? Are u cheating me? Maybe someone can explain the damage supposedly? What is this crazy inflated number of 300-400% only doing 110% over white hits. I know white hits play a factor when measuring DPS but 110% max? As i am maxxed. All i have are 3 numbers. 7651 damage and 2473.8 (DPS) and 11428.956 (DPS x 4.62) I certainly don't see how 110% over white hits even relates to those three numbers. But yes it is +100-115% range over white hits for holy strike. Someone pls try to explain this so i don't get mad.

maybe they should rename the skill's description to say "2x the crits damage" and give me back my wasted TP b/c when i crit for 33k my h-strike crits for 70k

Well for weapon speed 3.1 as your weapon would appear to be, the difference in damage between a white hit and 462% DPS should be something in the region of,

white hit = x dmg
462% DPS = (x/3.1)*4.62 = 1.49x dmg

I can't think offhand of any difference that would account for the difference that you are seeing.

I don't understand what you mean about your crits.

Okay, let's fill in the missing math here.

From scratch, we've got weapon damage of 7651, a holy strike of 11428.962 and a DPS of 2473.8, all kindly given to us by the OP.

Judging that weapon damage divided by DPS will generally provide weapon speed, let's take a look here..
7651 / 2473.8 = 3.0928..... for all intents and purposes 3.1

At this point white damage is irrelevant. The difference between hitting whites and using spammable skills at (for mathmatics' sake) 100% DPS for damage is exactly this; you do white damage every 3.1 seconds in this case. Output over time (Damage Per Second/DPS) is exactly the same; 1:1. I fail to see how doing 11428.956 damage on a 462% DPS output is anything less than expected. Damage is not the same as DPS in any way, shape or form.

Hope it helps (>^.^)>

I think what he was saying is that 11428.956 is what 462% DPS should be.

But that HS hits for 110-115% of a white hit, not the expected 150%.

However I admit I am not entirely sure that I have understood the OP.

That 3.1 seconds for the weapon speed isn't factored in properly.

If you do a white hit, you do 7651 damage but can't hit again for another 3.1 seconds.

If you do Holy Strike, you hit for 11428.962 but you will be able to deal that damage 3 times within the 3.1 seconds that the white hit will be unavailable to you.

11428.962 * 3 / 7651 = 4.481360083649196183505424127565 which gives you 448% which I assume is close to the number on the skill tooltip. Other factors will come into play which will reduce the damage taken by the mobs, but hopefully you can see the numbers do match up?

EDIT:
Out of curiosity, if you use 3.1 in place of 3, you get 4.6307387531041693896222715984839, so 463%

No no no. He gave some numbers, total damage, DPS, 462% DPS.

Then he said that that a HS did only 110-115% of a white hit. The simple maths say that it should be 149%. He never said HS did 11k damage, that would be weird that a skill did the exact damage (to three decimal places no less) as it says on the tooltip. He said the in-game damage values he cannot see in anyway connected to the the values that he has taken from in-game data.

As I say I am not sure I have understood the OP correctly, but I can at least read what he has written :p

ok i get it.. multiply the 11428.962 by 3 that is wack... Pattack doesn't seem to give a bonus to this at all whereas a white hit gets a bonus from high pattack
And if im going by the numbers it seems Wrath IX (+205 damage) Accuracy VI and Raid VI have little to no effect on holy strike. Useless kinda like the resistance runes.
Breakdown: 11428.962*3=34268.868 damage
34268.868*1.1=72002.4228 Damage critted Which is about what i see ranging from 69k to 73k

The numbers now make sense but it makes me very angry. Esp since the Unrivaled Sword is unavailable.

I still don't see why white hits damage bonuses translate into H-strike hits. They should be subject to the same melee rules i would think. Maybe i would rather H-strike to do physical damage like 890 physical damage kinda like the way Shield of Attonement works where pattack matters.

Correct dmg formula is actually:

Whitehit: Damage*2,75*ADF

Attackskill: Damage/Attackspeed*(2,75 + 2*Skillpercent)*ADF

ADF (Attack-Defense-Factor):

ADF = 0.1 if p.att < 0.2*pdef
ADF = 0.5*p.att/pdef if 0.2*pdef < p.att < pdef
ADF = 1-0.5*pdef/p.att if p.att > pdef

So if you are way above the pdef of enemy, more p.att won't make any noticeable difference

All calcs are noncrit.

If you want crit, you need to calc all +% crit damage together and add it to 130% a base crit does. So if you got both rings +16, they are 55.2% each -> 130%+55,2%+55,2% = 240,4% of base damage

So if you got 7651 damage and an attackspeed of 3.1, a whitehit is maximum 21040 dmg every 3.1 seconds (taking def and p.att not into account, since dunno what you attacked with how much p.att)

Holy strike you say has on skill tooltip something around 300-400%, so I just take 350% there now:

7651/3.1*(2.75 + 2*3.5) = 24063

So I guess you didn't mean 110% over whitehit, but 10% over whitehit = 110% of whitehit dmg

Anyway: whitehits run always, unless you make a cast with casttime. They run also during your spamming of holy strike and will strike every 3.1 seconds

You forgot the "hidden white" in the Attack Skill formula. All attack skills have a hidden damage bonus based on straight White damage. So the Attack skill formula would be more like this:

Attackskill: [(Damage * 2.75) + [(Damage/Aspd) * (2.75 + 2*skillpercent)]} * ADF
Of course, against the same enemy, ADF cancels out when determining how strong a skill is compared to a white hit. Furthermore, don't forget that HS does 5x aggro generation.

But for us to really give you a good explanation, we'd need the following:

Weapon Damage - From Character Screen
Weapon Speed - From Character Screen
Skill Percent for HS - From Skill Screen/Tooltip
End average damage for white hit - From Scrutinizer
End DPS for white hit - Ditto
End average damage for HS - Ditto
End DPS for HS - Ditto

Nope that's definitely not like this, you just combined the Scout with the melee formula.

Written a bit different than above:

Melee: DPS*2.75 + DPS*2*Skillpercent
Ranged: Damage*2.75 + DPS*2*Skillpercent

-> The "hidden bonus damage" is 2.75*DPS for melee and 2,75*Damage for ranged.

further correction to the above post of midknight: unless ive missed the patch every knight was shouting for after rebalance -> HS still has 2.5* aggro multiplier :)
