Priest and Weapons Skills

This is a dumb but nonetheless legitimate question that I've been wondering about Priests and unfortunately I can't find the information on searches so I've come here to ask (be gentle).

When I play K/P, I level up my weapons skill for 1H Swords for obvious reasons.

When I play either P/K, or P/S, is there any value to level these weapon skills up? My thought was no because in both situations the assumption would be that your not actually hitting anything, but I wanted to make sure that in the P/K or P/S combat tables there aren't any variables that take weapon skill into consideration either for accuracy on the P/S or effectiveness of skills.

Thanks in advance for the help and forgiveness as I understand while writing this that it's sort of a dumb question!

No, weapon skills are worthless for casters. Weapon skills determine accuracy with the weapon if they are used in an attack but make no difference in magic skills.

Ah many thanks! That's kind of what I assumed, but figured while I was in the process of leveling up my Knight's weapon skill if the other's needed it as well I'd do the same.

For the P/S, is Ice Blade and the scouts abilities based off of the caster magic ability and therefore Bow/Crossbow weapon skills don't need to be leveled?

Checked the Scout forum and it looks like:

that the bow/crossbow weapons skill does make some difference, but with a P/S, do you really use shot/auto shot verses the caster abilities like Ice Blade? If the ranged weapon accuracy is based on main hand proficiency if my P/S main hand is a staff, wouldn't this mean that I would have to level up the bow/crossbow weapon skill as well as the staff weapon skill? Or since abilities like Ice Blade are what P/S use, this is all based on Magic accuracy verses weapon skill?

im my experience with p/s the only skill that benefits from a bow is rising tide as it hits a second time for ranged weapon damage.im unsure if the bow skill really does anything, but i will try to lvl it up and see if it does make a difference.

And even rising tide is barely affected by the bow damage. It's almost nonexistant. :/ I wish that would make it like.. hit twice or something. Kind of like what eruption does for a mage.. would make rising tide more useful than it is now o.o

If you play P/K in instances you're garbage

If you're using Shot as P/S, you're doing something wrong. Unless the skill "Requires a Ranged Weapon" or has "X% ranged weapon DPS", Ranged Weapon damage/speed/accuracy does not come in to play with the Skills actual damage. Ice Blade is not "Requires a Ranged Weapon" and so it has nothing to do with Bows. So, no, you really don't need to level your scout general skills.

Raising weapon proficiencies doesn't effect the magic accuracy at all. Magical Accuracy comes from Wisdom and some items have it as a ghost stat (Green stats included in the base item stats). You should be aiming for Wisdom to increase your healing potential.

Just as a rule of thumb, skills will say what kind of damage you'll be dealing after the damage number or percentage. The words after the damage number or percent is what the damage is based on. Rising Tide, after it is modified by the elite skill, is treated as 2 seperate sources of damage as is stated in the description. It can miss on the physical part and hit on the magical part, it can critically hit on one and not the other or both but the physical critical hit rate on Ranged Weapon will decide if the physical part will be critical and Same for the Magical and Magical Crit Rate.
