Intro:
Hello to all fellow Scouts. I have played RoM shortly after chapter 4 came out and have learned a lot playing as a scout. This guide is meant to assist new players interested in playing as the Scout/Rogue class and what I say should not be taken in absolute since there are many ways to build a S/R and possible changes may be brought on from future patches. I made this pretty quickly so there might be errors here and there.
[This is a late ch4/pre-ch5 guide. Any changes from chapter 5 may or may not be edited here.]
Class Introduction:
This is Scout/Rogue class. It is a Scout class that takes an emphasis from your Rogue side through enhancing damage by increasing your critical hit rate and by various debuffs. Scout/Rogue is arguably the best scout DPS class equal to, or just below the Scout/Warden class. The elites for Scout are varied, and from my experience, S/R is the top PvE scout and is still vary viable in PvP.
TP priority:
HP- High Priority - Important skill, level as high as you can.
MP- Medium Priority - Valuable skill, level up to 50. If it can be leveled past 50, focus on the "HP" skills first and level as per your preferences.
LP - Low Priority - Useful skill, not necessarily needed, but useful in certain situations.
Class Skills (general): (Will ignore skills that do not use TP and ones I do not recommend putting TP into)
Shot (HP) - One of your most commonly used skills. It's spammable, but feels slow with the global cooldown. It becomes an important skill once you acquire the elite skill, Exploiting Shot.
Vampire Arrows (HP) - Commonly use skill and damage is decent. The bleed is useful against rogues in pvp and is a needed for the elite skill, Deadly Poison Bite.
Blood Arrow (LP) - A very powerful damage buff that has a pretty high cost to it. Useless throughout most of the game, but can become extremely useful in end game instances if you are able to mange your health while burning the boss down.
Swiftness (MP) - More Dexterity mean more evasion, and more importantly, more attack power.
Speed Shooting Mastery (MP) - Faster attack speed means more white hits and more DPS.
Class Skills (Class-Specific):
Wind Arrows (LP) - very useful pre-endgame and for those who do not/will not buy arrows. Weakest skill you have and becomes almost useless after you can summon arrows and get Exploiting Shot.
Ranged Weapon Mastery (HP) - Increased accuracy, but more importantly increased damage for all your attacks.
Lasso (LP) - not useful at all until you get Lasso Master elite skill. Uses are limited, but can be a live saver when questing or when you find a need to crowd control a mob in an instance.
Piercing Arrow (HP) - A highly prized and fairly spammable skill. It has one of the longest range of your skills, deals good damage, and is capable of linear damage of about 200. It gets much better with the elite skill Deadly counterattack.
Eagle Eyes (MP) - increases critical hit rate by a decent amount. Important to have when you're going for top DPS.
Snipe (MP) - Best main class single hit skill. Good opening skill on bosses and elites, but not really used anywhere else. You can place this on the "LP" and it won't hurt you much at all.
Combo Shot (HP) - You most used non-spammable skill. Also one of the highest DPS skills you have when you start pulling off a good rate of critical hits.
Reflected shot (LP) - deals a fair amount of DPS up to 3 targets. Even after you get the Poison Spit elite, it's at best a moderate crowd control skill. It's nice to have with the limited AoEs you posses, but it's possible to go without it.
Concentration (LP) - Only 2 reasons to level this skill. 1, your still spamming wind arrows and 2, in certain boss fights where your focus can be drained by the boss.
Target Area (MP) - Other than the Item-set skill, Archer's Glory, it is the only buff skill you will ever really use. It's a nice "umph" for fights against any tough opponent, bosses or elites.
Elite Skills:
Weak Spot (MP) - good damage and increases you critical hit rate for a few seconds. Not a high priority skill because TP will be better spent maxing out Combo Shot and Deadly Poison Bite and Piercing Arrow.
Blinding Powder - useless since you will not have any need to use it and Neck Strike is much better.
Lasso Master - makes Lasso a useful crowd control skill and not just a movement binding skill.
Sapping Arrows (HP) - An important skill for PvE that makes everyone hit harder. Reduces physical and magical defense by 16% at level 50.
Deadly Poison Bite (HP) - Amazing Skill and one of your best DPS skills at that. It becomes a godly skill in instances if multiple party members tosses Vampire arrows on those bosses.
Exploiting Shot - turns your shot skill into a phycial sapping arrow an it stacks too. that's around 32% physical defense reduction between this and Sapping Arrow and it's what makes S/R one of the best PvE classes.
Deadly Counterattack - makes it so Piercing Arrow will increase your critical hit rate when it hits your target. Your critical hit rate bonus increases as you level Piercing Arrow and at the same rate as Weak Spot.
Poisonous Spit - Reflected shot no longer has it's damaged reduced when it splits and gives it and Combo Shot the ability to poison enemies. Poison damage works just like a bleed and requires poison powder. To be hoest, it's not an amazing level 50 elite and you can easily go without it just fine.
Rogue Specific Skills:
ShadowStab - Your not going to be using melee, and if you did it was probably Throat Attack or Neck Strike to stun someone casting.
Throw - useless since you will be using a bow or crossbow
Blindstab - again, your not going to be using melee
Projectile training - see Throw
Off Hand Training - you definitely be using this to add a stated dagger to your off-hand
Agility - nice skill to have and adds a maximum of +8% evasion. You won't really be using this much except when soloing. Also is a nice buffer to use in pvp, but don't rely on it.
Nimble Hands - Very useful for any physical class. It will speed you along with Speed Shooting Mastery as well.
Shadowstep - You have no need to be in melee range of anyone. Can be used in combination with Throat Attack or Neck Stab, but it's better to just focus on attacking instead.
Gear:
Until level 55, use what you get from quests. Starting around level 50, you might be aching for some new gear, but selection is very limited for you at that point, sorry. There are mainly 3 methods to get decent level 50 gear. 1, buy em. 2, do the mini games and hope you get the Tempest Heights Hero set. and 3, run cyclops lair for the Cyclops set.
At level 55, any purple gear will be fine. Optimally, the starting you will want to get yourself the Scout's Unicorn set, Dilan'y accessory set, Strange Bug Leg guards, Goddess gloves, Labyrinth Vitality Belt, and a Poseidon's Cloak. You will want to slowly replace these items for the Fang Leather set and Yawaka leather set, bot of are level 60 sets. Your cape can be replaced by Arena Cape or better and your accessories can be kept until you find something better like the Heroic Precision set, Flame Dragon of power set, or the eccentric Ghost set. Ultimately you will want to get the Lekani set from ToSH and Yawaka can be kept until the Ruinic set comes out in chapter 5. Accessories, you will want Eccentric Ghost or the Heroic Precision set.
For Weapons, you will want a Rune Catapult then upgrade to better purple bows or crossbows you can get. Ultimately you will want Either Jenny's Power or Giant Crossbow of the massacre. (chapter 5 may bring new and better stuff.) For your main and off hand weapons, dagger are the best choice. Mantz Knife is a good level 55 knife. You will want to keep upgrading knives to what ever best one you can get. Any of the level 70 knives like the Dagger of Invasion or Shint's is what you will want pre-chapter 5.
Mana Stones:
There are many possible variations you can put together. Generally, you want the best ones you can get, which are Hero and Glory stats. The type of Stat you will want overall are: Stam/Phys Att, Dex/Phys Att, Stam/Dex. Excellent alternatives include Str/Phys att, Dex/HP, and Phys att/Phys defense. You can go wrong with any of these 6, but you will generally want to focus on getting as much Physical attack as you can.
Conclusion:
Scout/Rogue is an excellent DPS class, and in my opinion, shines best in instances. If you want a PvP scout, Scout/Warden and Scout/Knight make better pvp scouts due to the mechanics of their elites. Also, don't be alarmed if a Rogue deals more damage. A Rogue/Scout is THE BEST DPS class at this time and there is no way around it (yet).
