Tanking Knight Secondary Spec...

I am looking to build a pure survival knight for tanking. As a brand new player to this particular game, but being a tier end raider in a a game very similar to this one, I have a very good understanding of what is required of tanking as well as what play style I like in tanking.

I need to know what secondary class would be ideal to compliment a play style that favors Damage Mitigation from the use of CDs and the ability to "pop" Self Heals for a matter of seconds untill a healer is available.

A guild mate reccomended a scout off spec because of the extra stats provided by being able to carry and additional weapon. As far as stats to priortize im not sure what the "caps" are in this game or how to properly weight itemization.

Your thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Also if there is a site or thread that can map out what the numerical "best" spec choices are

K/P has the best damage reduction out of all Knights. K/P is also arguably the best endgame Knight. Although your heals won't do much, you have an extra immune from your Priest side and K/P elite skills make your damage mitigation skills even better. Also K/P has the much loved -Aggro buff you can place on other party members. K/S would come in second place in my ranks of Knights.
Firetruck W/Wdn/S 72/72/72- Retired as well now...
Bangsalot K/S/R 70/70/68 - Retired
Heretic- Reni

Right now I'm pretty sure that K/S Has the highest aggro generation due to 2 elite skills that act as a taunt
You also get a higher damage holy strike which again, helps with aggro. However, beware since knights are extremely expensive to gear since you need to be well started to tank. Of course, with a proper guild it shouldn't be too hard. For stats stamina, pdef and pattack are your biggest priority with some dexterity added somewhere if needed.

How hard is threat to build in this game? How does spell rotation play a part in holding a target. In the other game I play threat is built up 500% of the damage the tank deals. Is there a place i can read patch notes?

The self heal Im looking for is really for after a huge hit and Im at 5% HP, just something extra to help out the healers, but if its not optimal or there are flat out better choices then thats the direction I will end up going. A guild mate used the term that K/P tanks "bore" things to death. If that is indeed the case I am fine with that as long as the boss dies and not the group.

The "TAO of Tanking" is not a mentality suited for all players. I look at a group like a automobile: the tank is the steering wheel - the dps are the engine - the healers are the fuel. If one of the parst fail the automobile will crash or worse go nowhere. Having said that often times the tank is the defacto group leader and a groups failue or success is directly related to a tanks ability make the correct choice.

If you manage your hatred strikes and the other aggro skills well, you should have no problems except for maybe the mates and other dps in the group who may steal it from you. As for building it, just find a group to run with and you should be fine gear wise. I rerrolled my too. So no more tanking mainly because I found it boring. K/p is 10x more Boring than any other tank and almost as boring as p/k.

One question that you have to ask yourself is if you are willing to spend money on the game. You don't need to, but the process of getting to endgame will be much longer if you decide not to. I didn't spend much on the game but what I have spent didn't get me endgame.

For self-heals you'll be best served using Phirus Potions (I think you can get ones that heal 40% of your max hp back). There is just no way to stat for tanking and healing. Also Valentic brings up a key point. If you want to tank the hardest content in the game you'll have to plan for spending actual dollars. How much you have to spend depends on how patient you can be for double diamond sales as well as sales on the items needed to stat out your equipment. A helpful guild can make the process go much quicker in the area of gathering the stats needed and the actual equipment as well.

I play a K/P and it comes with two oh-crap immunities to save you in times of real need, but as stated it is a pure tank class. If not for my wife's S/W it would take me days to kill stuff.

For me, I was on and off for 3 years on my Knight and I spent around 500-600$ over the course of those three years. You will pay less since you wouldn't have to play catch up like me but the amount you may spend is still substantial. The higdhest I reached was around 150k HP and around 300k pdef fully buffed.. which is not enough to tank Tosh or probably only barely enough for gchm. Then again, I never upgraded my main armor set of beastman/demonbest. Which if I did upgrade, Tosh would have been in my reach. With the new cs changes, it will get tougher to upgrade armor and sell old piecesa so be aware of that.

Many thanks for all of thoughts and opinions so far mates they are greatly appreciated. Its looking like I am going to roll K/P. Is there a thread that is dedicated to this setup or a site that will allow me to place talent points into different specs so I can math out what will work best for me? Also is there a thread that has a break down on how generating threat works? When the time comes to start tanking instances and such I dont want to be behind the 8-ball in learing the mechanics of tanking.

You may have to search for guides in the forum or you could also try looking at euro forums. Mainly British and German ones since they have more guides on there. Never played k/p so have fun with the grind fest :/

K/p is great but need slightly more pa than k/r or k/s. K/s is fitted with range tuant/ agro skills which k/p does not have. K/r is crit king. Read my guide for basic info on knights. Atm i use: 3stam/pa, 1stam/dex, 2 stam/pa.
