Woo! We got shafted!!

So upon reading today's patch notes thread, I stumbled across this little absurdity:

"Warden Pet summoning: Summon Spirit of the Oak, Summon Oak Walker & Summon Nature Crystal: Now when player summons another pet without using Recall Pet to dismiss the current pet, the pet’s passive effects will be removed."

Kinda peeved about this. By doing this, Wardens have lost a VERY large chunk of their power. SOTO provides a 65% pdef boost, and now we can't use it while using another pet like Nature Crystal which doesn't provide any passives?

RAAAAAAAAAGE!

I can understand people summoning SOTO and then Oak Walker for the double passive boost, but being able to summon SOTO or Oak Walker and not retain those passives when we've got a Nature Crystal out on the field? That's a below the belt punch.

This means in order for me to get that 65% pdef boost (much needed in instances) I have to keep Eager Beaver Aggro-pulling SOTO out and endanger my entire party if he strays too far from the group.

I'm very displeased.

Please make it so that we can retain the most previous pet's passive booster when we summon Nature Crystal.

Thanks,

SOTOmizer

I haven't played with any of the changes yet. But I can understand the frustration. Wardens should be all about pet micro, and the management of their passive skills.

All I can do is adapt a different play style to suit my "grindohalic" needs.

All i can say is learn your class more, this was originaly a bannable offence as it was an exploit of the pets, learn to control your pet or play another class, having SOTO out has more benefits than people realize, i always used to have SOTO out when i tanked because it could actualy help me with pulls, not to mention the % patk debuff to mobs it hits with punch.

I am of course going by the assumption that your playing a tank warden, but if your not, open your eyes, no class should really have tank like pdef and be strong dps at the same time.

"without using Recall Pet"..what happens when you do use recall pet? and then summon a different pet? it sounds to me like recalling first lets you keep the passive, but I don't really know if it works. Worth a try if you haven't already I guess.

Recall pet removes the buff same as it always did

Gotcha, thank you for clearing that up I was a bit confused, been a while since I played Wd. This is a fair balance for Wd dps, but not very good for the tank Wds..

meh.. everyone always looks at the pdef boost.... and why not, most endgame Wardens are tanks.
Personally, I would like the 50% 2h Weapon Damage for 30 seconds as promised in patch 5.0.1

Yes, would be nice if we could have the old system back where we sacrificed a pet for the buff then summoned another one but its hardly Class Breaking.
I would imagine that most Tank Wardens would sacrifice SOTO for the pdef boost and the DPS Wardens would sacrifice Oak Walker for the 10% extra Crit Damage.
Keep in mind Chiron gives no bonus when summoned, good thing he hits hard.....

The thing about the buffs staying even when a new pet was summoned was a bug. The descriptions plainly say that WHILE SUMMONED you will obtain blah blah blah... There is no reason a pet buff should stay on even without that pet being out. This is forcing things in the right direction. Making players learn their class and their role. No more boosting up that PDEF with SotO and then using the crit from walker while having out the nature crystal for the buffs. One pet. One passive. Choose your role. Live with the pet that suits that role.

I agree with that, the dps wardens shouldnt have all of that, and neither should the tanks, however the difference is that dps wardens use their pets for dps while tank wardens use their pet for the buff. The problem is that its a buff that can be killed. That's why its been such a huge deal, though honestly having a pet out is kinda the whole point of being a warden...

My heart is also saddened.

RIP wardens, for now you are absolutely terrible.

^ trolololol.
You know tbh im not even convinced the extra 10% crit damage actually worked right anyways lol.
My dps didnt really go down at all with not having that extra.
Either way, nothing, absolutely nothing happened to "nerf" or "gimp" wardens. Were still here, and we still hurt just as much as b4. :P
It just changes the style of gameplay is all, anybody that cries nerf nerf, gtfo. This was a planned fix for months upon months. Enjoy what u had while u had.

I do not understand how your SOTO is dying. I recommend trying a different tactic(s).

1. Try leaving your pet stashed somewhere. I know that is not at all in the spirit of the class, but it is effective.

2. Talk to your healers. Dont blame them, talk to them. As I play a d/wd healer too, I understand that druids get shafted as their group heal, MEF, does not heal the warden pets, whereas the priest group heal does. I have also observed my Chiron standing right next to the priest, but not get the effects of group heal. Also, I found out that some healing addons do not refresh the pet's info very well. So I ask the healers to cast an occasional regen on the pet, whether it looks like it needs it or not. Also, in the standard game you have 6 individual focus slots, as well as 6 raid focus slots. Those do refesh the health status, so the healer setting the pet as one of those might help.

3. Use pet actions.

4. Wardens have a skill that heals their pet, Elven Prayer. I agree the skill is not so spectacular, but it is there.

Im not qq'n just wish they would fix everything promised to wardens in that patch. PVE the extra pdef to a dps toon is pre-much useless anyway that's what the tanks for :) And siege..... is still a 1 shot fest 90% of the time

Before this change we had warden/scouts tanking in dps gear, which is just ridiculous to be honest. This change certainly didn't break wardens by any means, they are still incredibly powerful, they just can't have it all at once anymore.

lol The reason I like warden is that they can "have it all at once", but I agree. As a Warden, you can't DPS and Tank at the same time. That would equal an almost unkillable damage machine. You have to either choose Wd/W for tanking, or Wd/S for DPS. You can do both, but not at the same time
