How does chains of light damage work?

At level 0 it says it continuously does 30 light damage to the target. However, I know it takes several seconds to "cast" because it is a channeled spell. So my question is this: Is the damage listed on the tool tip the "per tick" damage, or is that the total damage that will be dealt if the spell is channeled to completion. I believe it is calculated the same way the Mage's Meteor Shower spell is calculated.

Thanks!

From my own observations fiddling with a lowbie Priest alt, it does the stated damage every second the skill is channeled.

However, I play Warrior and Priesty-stuff is not really my field and am open to correction.

Matk/mdam count in its damage calculation, so it ends up doing more damage than the tooltip says.

That said, it's a really crappy skill. It breaks the second you get hit by anything.

p/ch gets an elite that boosts the damage and eliminates the CD, so getting interupted won't really be an issue. I'm just doing some research to see if p/ch may be a viable dps combo, something along the lines of p/s

Ahh, didn't know about that one.

Well, in terms of damage, it won't hit as hard as water spells. Priests have no light mastery, and Chains of Light is a light-based spell. Kind of depends on how big of a boost in damage it is, though...if it's just a flat amount in the tooltip, I don't see it being better than P/S for damage. If P/Ch has a light-based mastery though, then that changes things. The elemental mastery passives add a massive amount of damage to spells.

Always worth testing, though. Not many people are trying out the dwarf priests, so it would be nice to know what they're capable of. :)

if my estimates hold up, then at level 75 the p/ch chains of light tooltip will be about 200 points less than the p/s ice blade tool tip after factoring in water mastery. Some initial testing puts the chains of light per tick somewhere around half of ice blade though, so it's not looking all that promising, but I need to figure out how to do a lot more testing to find out for sure. I think I still want to try it out as a healer tho, cuz it gets a couple aoe heals, including one that group heals the same way Rune Overload does damage. Seems like it could be pretty awesome :)
