How does the "Attack" Stat work?

Been doing a bit of number crunching and I am not sure what the "Attack" stat is for. I see the Magical Damage (or Physical Damage) stat and if it is your base damage what does Attack do? It doesn't look like it has anything to do with Crit or Accuracy either. With it being the biggest number one must begin to ask what it does.

you need a high attack to do damage.

Attack stat vs Defense Stat.

Basically the usual is trying to have enough attack to bypass the mobs defense to allow you to do full damage.

So Attack is more important when dealing with dungeon bosses and not so much for basic leveling.

While it don't look like I need to worry about it too much at the moment, when I do get to that point is there any formula for knowing how much one should have? Or has someone done a thorough write up on it and other stats?

Yes there are posts with the damage formula for magic and physical damages.

Yea for the most part the non insta mobs never have much in the way of defense, just a basic level issues as to when you get 6 or 7 levels over your level then you will have a very difficult time hitting mobs.

I'm not really sure why this is in the Druid sub-forum as it really has nothing to do with Druids.

but yes, it works on a sliding scale against physical defense.
Attack vs. Defense (Both magic and physical accordingly)
Physical Accuracy vs. Dodge
Magical Accuracy vs. Resist
Critical Hit Rate vs. Critical Hit Resistance (Both magic and physical accordingly)
Parry has no counter stat.

Do you have links to them or are they somewhere obvious? I tried searching but didn't really turn up anything that looked like what I was looking for.

My character is a druid, and I didn't really see any forum that related to theorycrafting.

This one has a lot of the pertinent details:

http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=77049

If you just google for runes of magic damage formula or something like that, you get the best results. Sadly, I posted something that was very close to the magic damage formula at some point, but the forums have since done something that ate all old posts. I don't remember it in detail anymore, and some of the old versions of the equation that are still floating around are incorrect. Magic spells have a multiplier that scales with the skill level and is multiplied by the base cast time. You'll get something close to the correct multiplier by doing (1.5 + .03*skill_level)*cast_time, but I'm quite sure that those constants are off by a small amount.

The magic attack stat behaves the same way as decribed in the above link, and AOE skills generally have some multiplier that reduces their damage.

Oh ok, that would help. Since it wasn't actually written anywhere in your post/signature, I had no idea as to why you would post this here.

I suppose you are a Druid/Warrior if you are wondering about physical attack then? Otherwise, it's a pretty futile attempt for dealing damage as a Druid/not Warrior.
