Flame vs Fireball

Remember when flame (3sec cast minus speed increases) was considerably more powerful than fireball (instant cast)? Now it hits for far less than fireball. Of course fireball does have a CD but don't you think flame should be increased to be on par or greater than the other mage spells (without making m/wd even more op in siege)? This might help m/?'s to catch up in dps with other perhaps less squishy dps classes such as the r/m. Just a thought...

uhhhh....what? Flame does not hit less than fireball. For me, Fireball (lvl 81) = 258k damage on a lvl 1 mob, Flame (lvl 82) = 621k damage on the same mob.

he may be referring to the tooltip damage...which may in fact be higher(maybe, i think i remember something like this on my mage, but could be mistaken). however, flame has a cast time modifier which fireball doesn't...
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

Yeah, on the tooltip, Fireball does more damage than flame.

Interesting, forgot about the cast modifier. I'll have to test it against some mobs and bosses. I did however notice during siege that flame hit for diddly compared to fireball.

Flame always hit harder than fireball, regardless of in siege or not, unless you're comparing Flame non-crits to fireball crits.

The extra factor you have to consider for siege is shields/damage reductions. Mages, Wardens (nature crystal) and C/M have shields that absorb damage equal to a % of their HP. So if you Flame first, their shield absorbes part of that damage (or all) and your Flame seems to have critted for very little. Other classes have damage reduction CD's that reduce damage they take in a few seconds, so if you cast flame while it is in effect than follow up with fireball after it ends, than fireball may seem to crit more.

I did notice that Flame seems to crit very little in siege though... or is it just me?
