Best Secondary Class?

Hello!

I'm fairly new to this game so as you can imagine there isn't much I know about it. I'm currently leveling a Warlock/Priest and I am almost 20/20. I know you can get a third class and I thought you can get it at 20/20 (correct me if I'm wrong). I've also heard from guildies and friends that you shouldn't get this third class until later levels. i.e. late 30's. That being said I am planning ahead for what kind of play style I can expect in the future. As I previously said I am currently Warlock/Priest and was wondering what would be the best 3rd class for a DPS role. If this is not the right forum for this question please direct me to the correct forum and I will be on my way.

Thanks,
Squiji

Welcome to RoM :)

As for the 3rd class, you are right at lvl 20/20 you can achieve a third class. Been a while Im thinking Hall of the Eye of the Wisdom.. but a pop up message should tell you where to go.
-DPS with the classes you have.. I havent quiet played that combo, I do see a lot of Warlock/Mages running around, some Warlock/Rogues.
--I do think you are in the right forum for this, but I'm new to the forums, in a sense that I dont post much :).
---Hope you have fun

Thanks, my original intent was to play Warlock/Mage but after looking at some Warlock/Rogue and Warlock/Warrior skills and such, I just wonder which is the best. As a former WoW and Rift gamer I love the number crunching end game.

Welcome to Runes of Magic!

If you go here ( http://runesofmagic.gamepedia.com/Main_Page ), you'll find lists of class-specific, class general, and elite skills. They're not necessarily complete (some of the information and whether or not some skills can be upgraded/leveled are missing or less than accurate) but the skill lists can give you a good idea of what you can expect for various class combinations.

Class combinations are usually best determined by the person playing the character. Any information you get from other players should be considered opinion, even if those opinions are based in fact and from their experience.

As for getting that third class and when, the decision should be yours and yours alone, though waiting until you've reached lvl 30 on both your existing classes (Wl/P) isn't necessarily a bad idea. And, in MY opinion, once you've decided on a 3rd class (as a Dwarf, you will have to go back to Yrvandas Hollows to actually select it), use the new zones that will open up for you (Coast of Opportunity and Xaviera) for leveling that 3rd class. You also have the advantage of being able to use the original Human starting zones and Sascilia Steppes/Dragonfang Ridge to help level both your current primary and secondary classes.

Enjoy the ride!

Click the link in my sig and read the warlock guides in whole. Make your decision based on what you read therein.

My brief take on the warlock combos (From my experience as a Warlock) :

Warlock/Mage: The PSI warlock. I believe this was the one that the class was designed after. It has probably 2nd dps overall and does most of it's real damage in Willpower Blade mode.

Warlock/Rogue: The pvp? rogue. I believe this was the one that was designed to be for pvp. Like all the other combos, has very little use for PSI. (still a little more than wl/p wl/c and wl/w ) but has a few decent instant casts.

Warlock/Priest: The in the middle warlock. I believe this one was headed towards a support warlock then they changed their mind and said it should be a dps class. It isn't amazing in either respect.

Warlock/Champion: Imo the best warlock. Amazing damage pvp and pve as well as some of the best survivability in the game.

Warlock/Warrior: Has rage issues, but might be good if you were tanking things, which I doubt would happen.

Can anybody give me a hint about the difference in the wl/m and wl/ch dps? I am wondering which one can contribute more to the overall dps of the party. Lets say whole party is more or less at the same level of gear and there are 2 warmages in the party, and rest are melee dps. Most of the fights are burn.

among wl/ch and wl/m, then wl/m for sure:

- AoE cast speed and attack speed buff (permanently refreshable)
- debuff on boss for taking +36% more dark dmg and +36% fire dmg (permanently refreshable)

wl/ch has almost no supportive elites apart from a +10% dark dmg which is minor compared to the wl/m one. wl/m can increase the overall dmg output of w/m's by roughly 35% and of all mages by 56% (rough calculation of attack/cast speed and fire dmg bonuses) which is ALOT.

however, since ur party is mainly composed by melee dps's and not by a bunch of mag's-w/m's i d suggest u consider for m/wl and get a permanently refreshable -30 pdef and -30% mdef, making u burning bosses like papers.

I am aware of the skills. But there is a hudge difference between values on a paper and real run. Thats why I asked.

+-15% of attack speed is a very little bonus once the party is using lute, ft, sa, raid X. Not to mention the buff is for 6 random non-enemy units, a0dn from what I saw it buffs pets as well, so its questionable how many players will get the buff...

debuff on boss is nice, but it takes some time to stact it up 4 times, and 36% more fire damage basically means ~ 15% more damage from w/m. Not to mention that wl/m would have to go "low dps" rotation to stack the debuff 4 times at the begining of fight.

As I see it, wl/m would be better only in the case that dps of warlocks is rather small compared to other classes and thus it won't matter that wl/m will go for low dps rotation. But this is something I can't really tell unless I get proper gear :(.

M/wl is not an option, since we already have one.

I play both Wl/M and Wl/Champ. I find Wl/M has more benifit in PVE for my guild. My Wl/Champ is still a bit tp gimped for PVE for 100% testing but the PSI skills for Wl/Champ are not good as WL/M however they can go into PSI burns more frequently. WL/Champ is good for pvp however as Wl/M in pvp is terrible

I play a Wl/C/M and from my point of view, Wl/C is better 80% of the time. I say this, because when I have played Wl/m my dps has been 1/3 of my wl/c dps. The only real time when I think wl/m might be better would be if there were 4+ good/solid magic dealers in party that would boost their dps by a lot. Wl/c can get ridiculous intel, ridiculous dark damage and you will probably be the last one standing in most party wipes. Plus, you are a beast in PVP.

Simba just out of curiosity, how much tp does your warlock have. Just wondering because my Wl/M does damn good damage but not until I was able to dump a truck load of Tp and max all the % skills and most of the long rotation. I can buff to 300k mattck if i go all out. I have not had much luck getting my wl/champ to duplicate the amount of damage but I have not invested the tp into that side for a truly fair comparison. But I am always wanting to improve myself so if you are correct I need to change some things around.

Hmm, 2 warlocks, 2 oppinions :D

Can I ask if you both have all elites and using all the % iss in your rotation? Those may be silly questions, but we all know that 1 skill can change moderate dps into op one.

As for the wl/ch and pvp, I am aware of this fact, but sw are usually quite laggy for me, so I prefer to run around as ch/m since its not that much affected by lags :D.

Hmm I have 185mil tp (still stuck at level 84 for now), but If I'm going to be honest, most of it is invested into my wl/c combo.
I find that the biggest reason I can do amazing damage on wl/c though, is because of being able to use Rune Energy Devotion at the same time as the two dark damage setskills. Unlike wl/m, where you have to build up the 36%, I have it off the bat and can use electrocution + WWC as my first two skills. By myself, I can get a 142% dark damage increase for like 10 seconds of glory on a boss. =D
Unfortunately though, my comparison may not be one for others to follow, because my mage is stuck at 56 right now, so I don't have the 60 wl/m elite skills (which makes a huge difference I hear in damage). That being said, I still don't see how it could make up the comparison I have right now. (Damage is about 3-1 for my wl/c).
I have also found that the play-style for the two combos is completely different. For Wl/m I have found it's all about getting to 6 PSI fast then spamming SBS and FHS while standing in one spot. (Hard to take advantage of WA setskill).
Whereas, for Wl/C you are running around 24/7 (While WA setskill is up) casting your instant spells and get most of your damage off Warp Charge, HCS and Puzzlement (And lesser amounts- Electrocution, Energy Influx Strike, Surge of malice and Soul trauma) . *Don't forget, you probably have 142% more dark damage going for those, as well as opportunity strike for HCS and Puzzlement.
I used to think that wl/m was better for long fights and wl/c for short burns, but because the cds for the WA setskill and Rune Energy devotion are so short, I have changed my way of thinking into that wl/m are better for mostly magic parties, and wl/c is better for all other scenarios.
The most Matk I've ever hit has been 230k I think, I'm curious Pop, do you use your WA setskill it all?

I have much more TP than you 342m and my wl/m/ch is 85/85/75. Sadly the new lvl cap has tp gimped my wl/m again due to the amount of skills I have to fire off. I would be happy to test both classes with a tp reset. If you would pm me your wl/champ rotation as I am sure it is better than mine since I never play it. This week, I will spam resets to get champ higher for correct testing. Get one Tosh farm to help Wl/M skills get to 85 to match Wl/Champ. Then I record both and post here for us to look into.

Edit: I realized I did not answer you. I do get my dark damage set skills off. I use diyce and a ton of casting speed pots so I get the party mage/dark damage increase and enter psi burn in under 10 seconds.
