Crit set vs Aoth myst set

Like the title says, what are you thoughts? This also includes using the the gohh healer chest or ma/crit chest. We won't include the hoe set since most people don't have it yet.

I personally use the Aoth set for that 8% magic power + Int w/GrottoH healer chest t8 +20 and that puts me at 74% crit unbuff currently...

Unfortunately I cannot run too much with a full time/graveyard-shift job... but I tried using my Myst set and comparing with a crit set and the 8% magic power seems to be better for me.

It's been tested numerous times by many reputable mages, and the end result is always the same: Aoth Set > Crit Set.

^ that guy doesn't PvP. Aoth Set and Honor you'll be sitting at 45% or so crit rate. That's so bad. So unless you either A. Are rich enough to keep an aoth set and a crit set up to date or B. Not PvP on your Mage I wouldn't go with Aoth. I have Aoth 2/3 OD and dumped for a crit set. But now I got HoE set so idc anymore ;D

Yeah for PvP I made an int/stam stam/ma Crit set myself lol

If you wanna make a crit set to benefit you more for one hour over the other 23 hours go for it.

For straight damage / dps, Aoth has proven better every time. If you meet the hypothetical crit cap for mages of 70% with Aoth, go Aoth. Pouring on crit for a mage is stupid after 70% when you can have the bonus damage percent from Aoth.

I'd bet my gear now that Magio has that HoE set with that Aoth bonus now, that he puts out more damage than before just using a crit set.

Once anyone has who has the means can get their hands on the HoE set, obviously they should go for it, but until they can, they should stick with Aoth set

It's too bad we're not getting merged together Magio, i would have loved doing some testing with you

Idk anyone who plays 24 hrs a day ;D For some ppl that one hour is the most important one, and a big chunk of their total daily RoM time. My comment earlier also wasn't meant to come off as an insult. Your opinion is highly biased towards PvE and mine leans a bit more to PvP. Just tried to give him my perspective so he can see all sides and make his choice depending on his playstyle and resources :D

Oh I know it wasn't intended as an insult, and I apologize if my response came off as brash. When I said "if you wanna <snip>" it was more of a "if you, the community wanna <snip>"

And I certainly hope no one plays 24 hrs a day >.< I just meant "out of the day" you GENERALLY tend to get more use out of pve gear, UNLESS you're a pvper which I realize at this point a good many people only do and log out lol

But yes, I agree that if you're more oriented towards pvp, go crit, pve i recomment aoth, others have different opinions based on their play style and that's ok.

And of course lastly the HoE set is the best of both worlds giving you increased STAM %, increased INT %, increased damage % and lastly plenty of crit all bundled into one 3 piece jewelry set

I just wanted to see what other people used honestly. I'm currently using the full OD Myst set with bethh mage chest which gives me around 71% crit. PvE over PvP any day ;)

I swapped from Aoth to HoE set. If you are playing w/m, crit set is way better for you, your critrate goes much higher.
If you play mage, no point for crit set.

Yea I've always said many times over the years that mage PRIMARY is the exception to the whole schizophrenic Gollum-like insatiability mind set of "must have crit..the precious crit"

W/M yes, try as you might to quench your thirst for crit.

M/x seems to have a very delicate sweet spot on crit before the boost becomes negligible

I think it really depends if you're going to be fighting a lot of hardmode bosses with high crit resist.
from my experience it gets so diminished that over boosting your crit number is needed just to reach ok crit

But recently with pillars hardmode the mdef of bosses have like doubled since Beth hm where crit was definitely better. Even still if you have high +'d rings it seems really hard for 8% to make up for it there.

Optimistically though, if you're an end game mage running PoM, you should be more than able to break that mdef with (maybe without) debuffs.

M/W DEFINITELY should be breaking that mdef WITHOUT debuffs even

off topic: idk where you got that 'quote' from Roguetopriest but VVV isn't joining that.

back to topic,
Of course HoE set over everything but good luck with that not being in VVV or PPK.

but to those that want a cheaper viable option, Aoth Set is the way to go for any magic dmg character. IMO.

Crit rates diminish at a certain point with magic dmg, a lot faster than it does with physical dmg, it seems.

Off topic reply: It was a post in a thread from yesterday from GosuNinja as it has been labeled O.o I'm aware VVV isn't, its just super funny.

Yea there are a could things that melee seems to scale better with... One being crit a bit yes, another skill damage (flat dmg vs %dps), and another being atk speed vs spellcasting speed. When we go past casting speed cast (.5sec flame) nothing happens. If a melee goes past there atk speed cap they are still increasing their damage. (Where casting speed does not)

Obvious answer has been and always will be Aoth set is better than crit set for MAGES, but crit set is better for anyone else.

However, brown set is best for both.
