Warden/mage dps

Hey all!

Well I just got my hopes and dreams of playing a competitive battlemonk crushed over in the priest forum ;) nah just kidding but I did decide for endgame I would like to be at least accepted in some runs someday.

I started up a warden yesterday and got him to 50 (triple xp + orbs OP). I'm curious to know how a wd/m will hold in dps. I personally cannot handle leveling another warrior, I have too many secondary warrior classes and I hate everything about playing/leveling them. And I didn't want to really play wd/s because I just don't feel like using centurion. I like the walker more, idk why ^^ I'm thinking about picking rogue for third class so I can go wd/r too which I'm sure is better but I just think wd/m sounds fun. Plus I'd love to be able to swap to m/wd.

Anyways, thoughts? Any wd/m out there having any luck? I hear some say that the buffs to oak walker in the elites are actually really strong and others say that it's way too weak compared to other warden combos.

Also, and thoughts on wd/d? Sounds fun but overall looks...weak

Thanks all!

wd/w is the top dps, currently :P lol. wd/d gets the majority of it's damage from magical hits generated from white hits, making it very OP in sw. However, wd/d fails in endgame instances due to it's inability to boost matk and is, overall, less survivable than its human counterpart: k/m.

Wd/M is the combo I started with back in Ch.2... still my favorite combo, though it doesn't do as well as our Wd/S Wd/W friends. I'll see if I can break it down for ya.

Pros

1. Pet Warden. With the exception of Wd/S Chiron the Centaur, Wd/M's pets are better than any other combo's pets. Need buffs? Crystal pet get a 1.5x boost to their skills (bonus stacks with other WD Crystals skills for a total of 13% speed and 25% hp shield) and Crystal Protection, an Elven Amulet for the whole party. Need dps? Walker gets a damage boost from Spiritual Feedback and a super buff Pet Enhance (30% damage and attack). Need to hold/stall a foe while you focus on another? Oak gets passive Tough Oak (+55% defense) and can prep with Narrow Escape (Soulbond for pet) just in case things go bad.

2. Mage Secondary stops at 50. Silence and Lightning duration caps at 50, and the 60 Elite breaks the combo so no need to take it beyond. You won't need to worry about running out of quests to keep them both leveled; use all your quest line on your Primary.

3. Tp Friendly. Only two Elites are upgradeable, and one of those even caps at 50.

4. Simple Rotations. No need to worry about running out of rage/energy/focus or waiting on CDs... Charged Chop + Wind Chop per second for as long as you have Mp.

Cons

1. Lack of an OP damage boost. With no skill like Wd/W Feral Leader (+50% damg) or Wd/S Secret Agreement and Morale Boost (+35% and rising), Wd/M falls behind on damage compared to the current popular choices.

2. Bugged Skills. Like I mentioned above the 60 elite Resonance with Wind breaks the combo by giving Wind Chop a 3 second CD. The 70 elite is pretty good for Walker pet, but not worth the 30% less dps you'll do just from getting the 60. Tough Oak negates the debuff that Oak's Punch skill gives foes. Spiritual Feedback is worded poorly... all it does is give a sizable boost to the Skill Damage of Walker's Sepal Stab (can compare by switching secondary).

3. Make Your Choice. Wd/M stops at 50. M/Wd requires the 70 elite. You won't be able to play one combo without severely gimping the other.

Overall Wd/M is still a viable combo, but in today's RoM with the current mindset of Burn or Die you may find PuGs would rather take a FotM combo to better their chances of victory... however, if you can find an unprejudiced guild to run with, you should do fine (provided you are adequately geared).

If you really do love Battlemonk, there's nothing wrong with playing battlemonk for siege and playing another class for PvE - that's what a lot of people do, including me. I love my M/P, but in terms of viable combos, its pretty far down there as well. So I play M/P for siege and swap to M/W for instances.

If you play as P/W, you have a few options:
Go P/W/M - P/W for siege, W/M for instances. This does require 2 sets of gear (although you'll want a seperate set of PvP gear for siege if you're into PvP either way, whether you're playing a viable combo or not).

Go P/W/K - P/W for siege, P/K healer for instances. Again, 2 sets of gear, although healers are really cheap to gear.

Play as P/W and have either a Mage/warlock alt or Champion/priest alt for instance - neither M/Wl or C/P requires any effort into gearing beyond the minimal needed to quest, because both are amazing support classes, not DPS classes.

But there's plenty of ways to enjoy the game and still get a chance to play the class you enjoy :)

P/W in siege and K/W for instances and you will get all of the runs! :D (p/k kinda useless for endgame instances)

From what I've seen wd/m is great in PvP. However in instances it's no wd/w but it's comparable to a wd/r. Wd/m is all about the pet. Mainly oak walker i believe.

Hey all,

Thanks for all the advice! I was wanting to stay away from a healing priest only because my main character is a healing druid. The battle monk is a blast but inhonestly can't see myself gearing him up just for siege, I'm honestly not too fond of siege anyways. That would basically just let me quest and run like gg with the battlemonk. I will not be quitting the battlemonk but I don't want to spend excessive amounts of tome working on what would just end up being a quester.

For now I think the next type of dps class that interests me would be warden. I would consider a wd/w if that's really so much better than everything else. I've also considered wd/r too. If anyone has some insight on these that'd be great! What makes the wd/w so much better? If the damage is that great, the amount of aggro skills kind of scare me. My initialplan was to wd/m/r but I would consider wd/m/w too!

Thanks again all!

Hey again,

So after much persuation... I picked up Warrior for a third class. It's not too bad so far, and leveling the warrior side is easier with having charged chop from warden, so I guess I can't complain ;P

I will probably still quest up using mainly warden/mage because I find it more enjoyable but I can see warden/warrior being fun in instances!

Since the powers that be have shown their vast incompetence by nerfing Wind Chop and calling it a "fix", I figured I better update the pros and cons of Wd/M. I'll leave my original post alone so everyone can compare and see just how badly they screwed us with this patch.

Pro

1. Pet Warden. With the exception of Wd/S Chiron the Centaur, Wd/M's pets are better than any other combo's pets. Need Dps? With Pet Enhance and Wild Offensive, Walker turns into a Damage Machine: Strong Summoned + a good crit rate and it will do more burn dps than the master. Need buffs? Crystal pet gets Nature's Revenge, a 1.5x boost to their skills (bonus stacks with other WD Crystals skills for a total of 13% speed and 25% hp shield) and Crystal Protection, an Elven Amulet for the whole party. Need to hold/stall a foe while you focus on another? Oak gets passive Tough Oak (+55% defense) and can prep with Narrow Escape (Soulbond for pet) just in case things go bad.

2. Tp Friendly. Only two Elites are upgradeable, and one of those even caps at 50.

Cons

1. Lack of an OP damage boost. With no skill like Wd/W Feral Leader (+50% damg) or Wd/S Secret Agreement and Morale Boost (+35% and rising), Wd/M falls behind on damage compared to the current popular choices.

2. Lack of Filler Skills. Since Wind Chop was "fixed" to have a 3 sec cooldown, we quickly run out of skills to cast after the first round. (CC + WC > CC + Cross Chop > CC + Frantic Briar > CC + WC > CC + Thorny Vines > CC + ??????)

3. Bugged Skills. 60 Elite Resonance of Wind gave Wind Chop a 3 sec CD: RoM couldn't figure out how to fix this so they added the CD to the original 15 Elite and called it "fixed". Tough Oak negates the debuff that Oak's Punch skill gives foes. Spiritual Feedback is worded poorly... all it does is give a sizable boost to the Skill Damage of Walker's Sepal Stab (can compare by switching secondary): since skill damage does next to nothing, there is no difference when comparing between Wd/M and other Wardens' Oak Walker Sepal Stabs.

Overall Wd/M is still a fun class (watching Oak Walker launch her Hundred Strikes always makes me smile). However, since RoM nerfed our only workaround that kept us viable, we are limited to only questing and low level content... even if you find an unprejudiced guild to run with, you would do better to play as Wd/W for the top instances.

ive watched a sigil powered oak walker do 80+ mil damage while wd/m themselves do 35-40 mil damage... not seeing many wd/w doing 120+ mil a boss fight....but with windchop broken aka "fixed" they probably only do 20-25 mil now haha.. but still 100 mil damage is nothing to sneeze at anywhere.

How good is it without sigil? ive never seen a wd/m dps before and wind chop was broken? o.o
W/S now because hitting 40mil BC and 90mil TA is balanced

The wd/m 60 elite was causing Wind Chop to have a 3 second cd on it instead of a 1 second (correct me if i'm wrong on that) cd. With the new festival and bug fixes, instead of making Wind Chop not get the cd once you got the 60 elite, they made Wind Chop have that 3 second cd no matter what.

This is the same thing they did to R/K disarmament a few years ago. It's ridiculous how they could make an "elite" skill that makes the class worse than not having that elite.

You have no idea how upset I was when I saw this in the patchnotes! Like why did that need to have it's cool down tripled?? I was playing wd/m for questing and fun on easier stuff with wd/w for the rest but that just kinda killed it for me haha.

We'll see. I haven't played around with it too much since the change. I just cannot wrap my mind around what they were thinking with this one.

We had a wd/m quit over this. He was a beast off tanked and knew about the sepal stab "bug" if you will when KBNH was the highest. He was doing comparable damage to our wd/w untill he 60/70 elite. that 60 elite killed the class like s/wd's killed their class. and r/k's killed theirs.

i get why people are upset.

what i don't get is why people are surprised...everybody like "awe, man, they nerfed my class!"...

it was a bug. the bug got fixed. the end.

instead of complaing about how the bug fix killed the class, complain about how the elite skill itself killed the class, bug fix or no.

d/s camellia flower "upgrade" eventually got redone.
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

@ Farmertom

Pretty sad that we have to depend on getting an attack sigil to be viable. The big question is this: would you invite a Wd/M over a Wd/W for your latest HM runs? No? Didn't think so.

@ Cike

Wind Chop has always been a one second cooldown since the day it was released in Ch.2. The 60 elite bugged the skill by giving it a 3 second cooldown. How can you say that 3 sec cooldown being standard now is a "bug fix"? If you agree with this, then don't complain about scouts anymore... after all, they were "fixed" at the end of Ch.3 since scouts doing damage is obviously a bug.

D/S Camellia Flower did get a fix... we were hoping for the same with Resonance of Wind. Instead, RoM turned around and gave us a big "Screw U"... why would we not be surprised? Should we expect Wd/M to be further nerfed? Oh I hope not.

seems i spoke without the correct knowledge. last i looked at the elite, the 3 sec CD was mention on the tooltip(guess it was something i found on itempreview).

going back and investigating again, it seems the the elite had no mention of a CD at all...hence -> actually bugged(and broken).

sorry for upsetting you.
