Question about DPS for rogue

Most of the important rogue skills specifically mention that the damage they deal is related to "main hand DPS." How, if at all, does extra damage attained from gear (pants or robe, for instance) attribute toward that ? Does damage that a robe offers contribute directly to main hand DPS? If not, does it help at all?

If I'm not mistaken, all damage is added up (weapon damage, ghost stats, set bonuses, food, buffs) then divided by your mainhand-weapon's attack speed = mainhand DPS.

P.S. ghost stat dmg, set-bonus dmg, +x dmg food, AoW dmg bonus are all more effective with faster weapons.

longish answer: achileas, midknight and blankminded have some very indepth posts about it, building off of druffbaum/andreasals' work (also forgive spelling). link and link . blank also has a quite nice buff calc spreadsheet .

short answer: magio is pretty much right. it all gets added to weapon damage then divided by modified weapon speed (in very simple terms. the actual math is much more complicated).
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

mages should stack dex. word.

The flat damage from your pants/chest piece/set piece is added to your overall damage where as say a rune that gives damage in a weapon will ONLY benefit that weapon. All of your damage gets multiplied by you weapon mastery and any buffs you might have before been divided by your buffed attack speed. that value should be equal to your mainhand dps.

Now unless i'm mistaken i believe skills with a modifier say XXX% mainhand dps +.Y dex in that case you would add the flat value of your dex damage modifier to the total.

Then it calculates wether you miss or hit, wether your target gets hit or dodges, wether your target parries or takes full damage. then if you didn't get parried it rolls the dyice to see if you crit if you do the total you found earlier gets multiplied by your crit damage. the damage is then adjusted based on your pa vs your target pdef and it ends up been the damage you do with a small variantion so not all hits do the same (+-2% i think)

should be the general idea of how things work.

Damage obtained from chest/pants/set bonuses, and other buffs like the flat damage value form ribs, make a large diference. As already stated,

Main Hand Damage Per Second = character screen damage / current attack speed

This means by incraesing your damage, or "improving" your attack speed both result in more main hand dps, and thus more damage output from your skills. However, attack speed will NOT increase the amount of damage inflicted from a single white attack (this amount stays the same when attack speed changes, but you attack more frequently instead).

An easy way to see this effect is to equip a level 1 weapon, and hit a monster. Then remove your chest or pants that give bonus damage, and hit the same monster. You will notice a substantial difference. With more % damage buffs, such as the 12% bonus from ribs, or 20% bonus from champion/priest buff Suicide Advance, the bonus damage from non-weapon sources grows substantially.

An important thing to note, is that bonus damage grows twice with each "% damage increase" buff. For example, let's say your chest piece gives you 5% bonus damage when equipped, vs not having it equipped (10 000 vs 10 500). With tambourine buff (15% damage), the difference with chest equipped might be 11 500 vs 12 161. This is a 5.75% increase in damage with/without chest, compared to the previous 5%. If you wish to fully understand how character screen damage is calculated, and how bonus damage factors into this, see the first link Cike posted. With enough buffs (ribs, c/p wd/s k/p ibw tambourine) this difference can grow from 5% to 9% of your weapon damage. (the 5% is just hypothetical, the 9% increase is a value calculated based on the hypothetical 5% base ; real values will be different).

tl;dr bonus damage is super good, and gets EVEN BETTER with % damage increase buffs.

ps. Holy crap, I totally forgot about those adf spreadsheets....So much work put into those lol. Turns out, they needed some fixing. They're still a mess, and aren't meant to be a guide by any means.

Thanks for all the replies. I was aware of how physical DPS works, just wondered, after re-reading some skill info, wanted to make sure the extra damage from pants and robe were contributing to my dps factor for skills.

Attempted to solo CoE first boss last night for the first time, after finally working through pillars by myself. I got boss down to about 25% before my damage started falling off and started taking damage. Next thing I knew I had a mouthful of dirt. I don't have a Dodge cape yet, but not sure it would have helped because my buffs were wearing out. If I had ironblood will, that might have been enough, or maybe a few buffs from some alts, but only used self-buffs and pots.

for first boss coe ez i would recomend learning how to pull the dogs separate from the boss so you can fight the boss alone, should give you a lot more time to work with.

Yep, tambo and lute. I pretty much follow Bleedingblak's videos for buffs/pots.

Last night I managed to down first 3 bosses in CoE. Second boss bleed killed me but after I got him down. Didn't try fourth due to siege war starting.

Probably time to upgrade my dagger.
