Ninja Change to Tab Targeting

Has anyone else noticed that when you tab target it no longer has the same reach it used to.

I used to be able to select mobs that were off to the left side of the screen parallel to my toon and off to the right side up near the mini map.

Now when I tab target the range is very narrow and reaches no more then 40 degrees to the left and to the right of the direction I am viewing.

Also when a mob was attacking me from the side and a little from behind ( so basically touching me ) pressing tab would select it, well tab targeting no longer does that.

I have mentioned that to a few guild members and other friends and some say it has always been that way for them, others say they have noticed it has changed. I have not seen anything mentioned in patch notes, so I am wondering if it was a ninja change after the last server restart.

Might not be an issue for some, but it effects the way I used to kill mobs while running around the map. As for Friendly targeting that seems to be working almost full screen view to either side of my toon, even selecting NPC's that are behind me.

Curious to know if others have noticed this change.

Have not noticed a change. I do use tab targeting fairly regularly, but it's possible something has changed that I wouldn't notice.

Oh...I wish tab target would work that way you said it used to. But for me, it has always worked like you say it does now. About a 30° arc directly in front. In other words, if you are being mobbed you are out of luck if you use tab target, it does not target the nearest enemy but the one across the room ... sure.

Tab targeting has always been that awful in this game. It's always been a major pet peeve for me. This isn't recent. Unfortunately the target friendlies macro also has to use the same faulty target mechanics, which makes it extremely irritating in siege for tab targeting guildmates that aren't in party.

Honestly, this is the only game where the tab target system seriously frustrates me because of its limitations.

lol, why complain and not try to fix your problems? just make a tab target macro to your likes... mine doesn't target pets, and i have shift+tab for target only players... just search.

lol, because those macros use the same tab targetting mechanism that we are complaining about.

^ that, lol.

I use a target-friendlies macro in siege that ONLY targets guildmates, no NPCs, no gates, no pets. And they have to be directly in front of me for the macro to actually select them. If they're even a little off to the side, it will act like they're not there. This is how tab targeting enemies (both mobs and players, either with a macro or with Tab) works as well. It's how it always has worked, and it's irritating, to say the least.

Might be some freeky thing going on, but in some zones I can target enemys almost anywhere, friendly targeting is better. Chrysalia friendly targeting can select people almost behind me, but for mobs now only within a small area infront of me. Seige last night enemy targeting was getting a wide field of view. These changes i noticed with the 'Database Alignement Server Patch' last week. So wonder if they fix one thing and broke another. Surely not. :O

I tried a few places where I back up to mobs when they agro on me I try the tab and find some areas it will target them if they are hitting me and some areas it doesn't. So not everything is the same as it used to be.

What macros are you all using?

I need to get those because when I am getting hit by a mob that is close enough to be touching me, tab target almost always selects the mob furthest away, skipping the 3 enemy in between the one hitting me and the furthest away one. So instead of just the one hitting me, or that plus just the 2nd on the tab first selected, I end up with a huge mob coming over to check out the inside of my butthole.

if you dont tab target u should auto target the mob hitting u...i usually hit escape and auto target the one beating me into mage paste anyways.

theres an addon now to help targeting..i havent tried it yet. but it's on curse forge named: target :p

Within a range of 200, my tab target will target the farthest mob and as I continue to tab it moves farthest to closest. It has not always been this way, but it has been like this for a while. I often turn during fights to limit the number of mobs that are at longer range to avoid pulling them.
