I thought Paz had quit some time ago. I'll think about digging around for the post you mentioned since it may help me understand crit resist a little better...that is assuming it is still valid and not changed as you said before.

Always stacking crit.

No statistical data but I've killed a lot of bosses as a melee dps over a long period of time and crit wins.

My assumption is that boss crit resistance is something like a flat number that gets reduced from your own raw crit number. So while people argue an extra little bit of crit only does .xx% on character screen and they would rather have pattk, it's actually a much larger number after resistance is applied.

Example

6k crit is something like 77.75% 7k crit is something like 81%

so 1k crit at those levels 3.25% roughly. I will agree looks like it diminishes quite badly and an extra X thousand pattk sounds pretty good to me too.

But if my assumption is correct (who knows for sure) and boss has say 2k crit resist.

4k crit is 67%-ish 5k crit is 73% ish

After resistance is applied 1k crit is actually more like 6%

Just as you think crit diminishes as you stack it boss resistance is doing the opposite.

Again this is just guesswork derived from thousands of boss fights and generally outdpsing everyone by having higher crit and (usually) less pattk .

While I personally think that some of TWMXC says is all or partially correct, it would be nice if there were concrete data collected (or someone peak into the game code) to generate more then just a theory based on memories.

Sorry to those who have read this thread, haven't been doing much testing myself. My c/wl has been mostly been used for tosh farming and my gear is normally on my warden due to increase in instance runs. One day I will resume collecting data of 10k~ crit rate vs 1st boss beth data. Or perhaps I should wait in the case that difference in target/player level effects crit rate significantly.

twmxc is right. 1% more crit may not seem like a lot on your character window, but in boss burns i typically get 10% more output damage, by just having that one percent.

If my crit is 79%, and adding a few gets it to 80%, that doesn't mean im going to start hitting 1% extra crits. In reality, you do A LOT more critting. It's not a small meniale one percent.

I also don't think you'll find an actual statistic based on crit, specially since nowadays 80% unbuffed is a relatively easy number to pull off.

There were a bunch of aussies that came to our server once, claiming they stack patk ghost stats over crit. They geared up and ran with us, and were severely out dps'ed by us. We were all about the ghost crits.

You can take our words as endgamers who have days, weeks, months, of endgame running experience, or you can simply, not.

Despite how it might seem, I know crit stacking is better then patk stacking. Hopefully those that have any doubts have been swayed by the arguements here but that's deviating from why I started this discussion.

Rather then this turning into some weird crit vs patk debate, I was hoping to get more information and statistics. The endgame goal of this thread was to collect enough data to generate a working formula for crit rate, one that does more then just calculate crit rate on your char screen.
