This "new" economy....

Hiya gangy RoM folks! I was away for a while (PC issues; with the latest takeover of RoM I couldn't install for about a year). Anyway, I came back to Taborea to find a lot of things different and a lot of things the same.

Different: Can't buy much off AH with in-game gold - diamonds are crazy priced (as always) and rubies? Rubies - forget about it!

Now, when I left, the trend was that diamonds were going up and up in price, and that has basically continued, as expected. What I didn't really expect was that the value of rubies would change from "free with diamonds" to "let's see what the best rate to convert from diamonds to rubies is so we can get enough to stat / plus a toon's gear." I even know folks who refuse to get new gear and just clean and re-stat old gear because plusing gear has become impossible (note: it has always been NAY IMPOSSIBLE with NPC stones, so that hasn't changed at least).

Another difference I noticed is how quickly you get squished, even on easy mode, by at-level bosses. I mean, I used to be able to solo just about everything up to Sardo with my toon... maybe I was "uber" back then and didn't know it? I was ranked in the top 100, I guess, on patt... but that isn't so high as to be ridiculously OP. Now: squish in higher level instances. Seems I should have been born a dwarf... lol. The point being, at 82, even partly statted, I can't even begin to run instances for my level. Which kind of turns me off. At the same time, an "uber" dwarf can basically solo the same instances. Now, I am not saying "nerf the dwarves." I am really just pointing out that it used to be different - insomuch as "at level" easy runs were concerned. (I understand "hard" is hard, etc... and needed a team).

A third difference is the gold sellers. Now, when I left, they were all over Varanas, sitting and spamming, and generally being the annoyance they are. Now? Now there are only one or two, world shouting from who knows where, for days on end. I really don't know which is better... the occasional trip to Varanas and having to see them, or having them constantly spamming world. I go back to my original idea for "banning" these folks: allow the players a 1/24 hr 1 hour mute on anyone who talks in world. We can self-police and mute them as they happen, if we wish. And while there is potential for abuse (muting non-gold spammers), unless people are really annoying it probably won't end up that way (but on the plus side, people who bicker in world will finally be forced to bicker in private conversations instead). That is it; just a WC 1 hour ban "chit" given to every player. Making the effects stackable will ensure gold spammers don't see the light of WC again for a while and leave us alone.

World bosses with DAYS cool-down cycles? Seriously. Wow. And a requirement for the elites is to kill them several times? Wow. Simply Wow. It is like we have travelled back in time when you had to run every instance to get your elites (then right around the corner you could do spam a mini-game on the coast and do them all in 15 minutes.... lol). I hope new "mini-games" are planned... or at least they will decrease the cooldown cycle on the bosses. Wow.

Things that are the same: Same random memory leaks... lol. After playing for years, I think most of us are used to the random crashes. FYI I am now playing on an AMD 3.4GHz quad core, 8GB ram, 2GB Designated Video Card machine... so, yeh, its not the machine. But you know what? Still love the game enough to play. The people are still great! Which is what I loved most about RoM, I think.

I love the game, have since I started playing. Have always preferred Rogues (HIDE FTW). And still enjoy trudging through instances with my fellows. This thread isn't really a complaint about anything in particular (despite the title, we all know the economy has never been ideal, from the days when diamonds were available on the AH to the days with the diamond NPCs to the current state of affairs). It is more just me saying that I am happy to finally be playing again, and I hope everyone realizes that the "behind the scenes" things have never been ideal. In this instance, I have to learn to live with "hand me downs" from other players, and that is fine.

But I would note to the current "makers" of the game: An economy which relies on the PTP players to create EVERYTHING GOOD ENOUGH TO INSTANCE with in a game is DOOMED to have gold spammers; why? because the basic premise behind the economy is that a few people will supply everything the game needs. And those same folks who would otherwise spend all their in-game gold on WORKING gold sinks, instead hoard it, buy it, trade it, at value cost, to, from and between gold spammers. I find it a little funny that the person running Wartune, a very popular "MMO" (which is complete crap as an MMO), doesn't allow any sort of currency exchanges between players. Why? Because the CEO used to be an illegal gold farmer. LOL. He knows that nothing can stop a private economy driven by exchanges of values from the haves to the have nots (whether the haves acquired it legally or not). The coincidental thing is that players, themselves, are already understanding this (the refusal to sell rubies) and making the game a haves only game. With no viable gold sink options to plus gear, RoM looses out on the FTP player base who simply can't compete. But maybe that is the point? And really, always has been?

Love ya RoM! :ninja:

ps. If I did have ONE complaint, it would be SNIPE RANGE:60 - seriously? WOW! LOL! a whole 60! What an incredible SNIPING distance! It is almost like I am right on top of the mob when I SNIPE it!

One comment about easy mode: Try Kulch Bones Next Easy mode and Bethomia Easy. First boss in Kulch is about the same as boss in DoD, and the rest slightly harder, but not too difficult. Soloable with decent gear, though you might want to do a few gear upgrades if you haven't played in awhile.

There was definitely a jump in difficulty to Bedim easy and Bethomia easy, but with a regular group, still easily doable, and doesn't require uber endgame gear.

The was a massive jump to Belathis Easy mobs though. Trash mob HP went from 150k or so to 550k instantly. I'm not sure if its bugged, because I hit trash in Bela normal for the same damage as easy (usually, I hit twice as hard in easy), and aside from 1 mob, all the other mobs in normal (up to B1) seem to have the same HP as easy mobs too.

The one nice improvement to easy is that there are a few decent gear pieces and some decent, usable stats: Wis/HP, Stam/Def, Int/Ma, Stam/ma, Hp/Patk that now drop. Albeit, you need to spend an extra 39 diamonds to extra those stats in easy, but hey, you're doing easy mode. You don't have to go through millions of deaths every run, so I think its worth it.

And I absolutely love the design of Bela, first lore-heavy instance in this game I think. ^^

Yeh, I went to Kulch... and Bethan. HIDE all the way to boss was nice (didn't have to fight a single mob). But in both instances the boss creamed me. I don't even really know what happened in Bethan, but in Kulch he was hitting me for 25k a pop. I was a little shocked, since I was told by guildies that he didn't hit much (on priest or mages in guild)... Maybe its a MDef thing, I really don't know. I imagine I will be able to solo him once I get my 70 R/S elite that allows 5 hits with no damage, though, as I had him to about 25% before getting snuffed. Slightly better gear and I guess I'll be killing him (btw DoD I could solo around level 60... so no, he is no DoD run).

(note: 60 was pretty much "at level" for DoD... I am 82 going into a 75 and getting killed... guess that was my original point)

That's weird, are you sure you're not in normal lol. In KBNE, with mage shield (absorbs 30k damage), I don't even take damage before first boss dies. Even in WA, boss hits me for 30k and removes my mage shield in 1 hit.

Bosses might have gotten harder because we asked for them too several times. Beth HM was kinda easy even when it was at lvl cap and now just 2 lvl's away you can complete it quite quickly for a high lvl instance without a full group. I think that is why they made Bethalis HM so damn hard was for the people want the challenge.

The 60 and 70 elite skills are just that.. Elite skills that we should work to get. Some classes 60/70 skills are OP as hell and I think its fair to make them do stupid quests and farm bosses. FYI it used to be much harder as only the lv 75 versions could but used but now if your weaker player or one without a group you can wait for people to kill the big lv 75 version and you can camp the normal version 72 hours later and it still counts. That is rarely necessary on Indigo as people world shout and let other players know a world boss is down and they can come use it.

tbh, I liked the fact that the 50 elites made u actually play the game...how many new players even know who thynos is anymore?...

new elites are way too easy to get IMO, the best elites should at least require an untradable item from the final boss of the last 3 normal mode instances released...
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

mages should stack dex. word.

That would work if there are actually sufficient new players to do a low level PuG run, and a decent dungeon finder system.

As of right now, it would just be "can someone please run me through this instance so I can get my elites?", which is rather pointless.

i meant the highest level elites(atm, 70's)...the elites below(60 atm) are bumped down to some easier requirement(WB's+stuff, as they are now), and 2+ below can be obtained via bag quests...not saying all elites obtained through instances, just saying the latest and greatest should be a bit harder to get imo, and a couple instance runs is nothing compared to actually leveling the 2ndary high enough to qualify for the elites...

I had no problem to farm KBN easy with a M/P when it was released. And I was far from end game gear. Actually it was easier on m/p than at my dwarfy ch/r at that time...

As a rogue you should be able to kill the boss without geting a single hit (evasion+sub). If no, then you are either extra undergeared or you are not using any buffs.

As for the rest, yes a lot of things changed over last year, some of them are good, some of them are really bad.
