Hijack Silberfuchs from EU to look over the fix.

The current problen is the same one we had 18 months ago and was fixed after a bit. Find out what was done then to fix what the ill-advised server move undid.

1- here in home we have 3 players, with respective toons and computers. All connected to a wireless router connected to our Internet Services Provider cable modem. Our average ping is 160-200 ms. We live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our connection is very stable with no more than few minutes offline a month.

2- We play at the same time with no performance problems out of siege.

3- Before server transfer siege was played with only rare lag or crash.

4- After server transfer, all in guild had lag problems but not in the same day. We use to have just 8-10 players defending our guild. I would say at least one or two players always are less affected. Interesting, some days I was lagging and my wife right on my side was not, other days my wife was lagging and siege was smooth to me, and other days both were lagging.

5- this current siege lag is different from usual lag I had in game. The lag I was used happens whe we have a lot of players using skills too closer to each other. Good examples, a full raid killing the Ant Queen or doing the Dalanis events in the good old days. In this situation we could see frame rate decreasing down to 1-2 fps and increasing ping. It appears we were watching a slow motion movie. The current siege lag is totally different. I can move as usual most time, the main problem is that when I use a skill it tooks several seconds and even minutes to appear on my screen. Another annoying problem is the boomerang effect in which you walk a bit and it seems you are ported back.

6- I use to get herald in my guild and I was surprised one day when someone asked fearless and I pressed the button and the effect took more than 1 minute to appear to me, but it appeared at my wife's computer just upon I pressed the button. It is interesting because it is a skill I use but affects all guildies playing in siege. For players without lag it works in the normal time frame despite it takes lots of time to appear to me. Another interesting point, I could defend a tower playing in my computer but watching my wife's computer screen because I was lagging and she was not. The last evidence of this time warp effect is when siege is finished and several players are still getting messages tha someone is attacking a tower. Real fun if not sad.

My 2 cents humble conclusion: client side is ok and sending information like walking and using of skills in normal time to server and the server can handle this input and relay to several clients in normal time frame but not to all. More, it is random and sometimes it is solved when you turn off computer and restart it. Since it started after server transfer, I guess it is a network problem. Perhaps a firewall rule or a routing algorithim that relays the info to some clients using a longer path or with lots of retries.

The end of ROM

I get it - ROM, you proved your point. The crashes, lags, problems with flame towers, all the beta stuff - I know they were bad and you are right, it can be worse. Now please go back to the "beta" version. This "delta" version is causing many players to stop playing, and I am almost convinced myself.
Meanwhile there are announcements of new ways to spend our money on taking stats out of equips... I mean... is this a bad joke?
For some time now I am feeling ROM is coming to an end. If siege problems aren't solved soon, you'd better start looking for new jobs.
The worst of all is that this thread is so long and there are almost no replies from ROM. New ways to spend my diamonds is not a reply.

I'd say it's more like an "omega" version, as in the end of all sieges.

THIS.
We have explained and explained, we have begged and pleaded for someone at FI to actually come and try siege with us to see this issue first hand! Where on earth are the "We are siegeing with you guys, we can see the problems, we're trying different fixes" posts from FI???

Instead we get sales that aren't sales combined with a vast and echoing silence.

Noto will not siege again until this is fixed. If we still have enough people to be called a guild when it IS fixed, we'll talk about it.

Wake up FI, and smell the lost profits. Someone get Dionaea a bigger coffee. We know that you can't fix it yourself Dio, but it sure as heck would help my blood pressure to hear from someone, anyone, that the problem has and is being thoroughly investigated, and a real fix is on the way.

I am in siege right now, but we have 5 toons in and every one of us is lagged out. We are just waiting for the enemy to finish it. We at least always had 1 or 2 people that did not lag. Tonight we all lagged.

Well, most of the times when lag hit us all in SW we were either tied and ended up tying, or losing and ended up losing. But tonight was the worst. We went from roll stomping them to them capping our crystal. Destroyed everything in their castle and had their inner castle gate to 4% at the :22 mins mark. Then the lovely lag hit. O how the tables turned so quickly. We had 16 people in sw after that only 3 from our guild didn't lag. Their guild was lucky that they had about 9~10 not lag. :( Was very disappointing to see a win we may of had within another 5 minutes to turn into them capping our crystal before the hour was up.

.

We won tonight because the other team gave up and we had 3 of 14 not lagging.

Like I said yesterday, today was our last Seige. Not worth the frustration.

I have personally given up on siege....It was the highlight of my day. Today I didn't even log in durring siege time The whole game seems to lag durring that hour now. I found that the mini games in Varanas lag rather badly durring siege time. I guess I should thank FAI/RW for helping me break the RoM habit. I'm actually starting to not want to play. I caught myself playing Angry Birds on my phone and my toon just standing next to the AH......so I just closed RoM. A sad day actually.

Have to agree with the people above. Siege is broke and this time it is not RW fault. Went to dinner and drinking last night with the money set aside for diamonds. New items are enticing but that will wait till Frog gets people who can fix the problems.

I see the guild I am in beat a much stronger guild last night. I am guessing we had more unlagged at end than they did as they all have ToSH hard weapons. Battles should not be who is last to lag....

Yeah, ipeace, that was my guild. We had a total of 4 people and every one of us was lagged out. When none of us can do anything at all, we can't fight at all. We were forced to give up.

On a side theory, maybe they just want us to be willing to let them take out siege. If they pull siege because the player base wants it gone, then they don't have to work on it anymore.

I agree with your theory. SW seems to be just a constant thorn in the side to FI if not RW. Evedance of this is the fact that it is constantly getting broken. I remember the days when Flame towers were useless because they wouldn't shoot and tower gaurds didn't bother to attack the enemy, asside from the many other issues that have cropped up. It seems like they want it to break and not have to fix it for there own convience.

The game is played by real people who want to have real fun. Many people i know only buy diamonds to gear up for seige, many only log in for seige, and many quit every time seige is broken. Few ever return. Just some food for thought.

Just to add to the technical observations, I noticed the other night when siege lag gets extremely bad, I get a crash report when I try to relog during siege. This happened twice last night, and happened 2 of of 3 relogs. That doesn't fix it, but I do find it odd that Siege War is crashing the client.

Siege - 6 Fed 12: The person in our guild farthest away from the servers (from Brazil) had zero lag in Siege. Next farthest awa away, Seattle, had bad lag from 40 minutes in, 10 seconds for commads to appear, Knin & other towers missing, etc. Others had a small bit of lag towards the end, including one located just a few miles from the server.

The opposing guild appeared to similar afflicted, some with a lot of lag, others with little.

This feels like network throttling either within the server farm or from its supplier, either way it's under Frogster's control not Runewaker's. Moving to a cheaper server farm across the country was a bad, bad idea.

SW still lags

Maybers Froggy no-noes the issue here, or maybers me misunderstood em, so me gonna post some facts/questions, an hope this tisn't seen as flamin, an we gets some answers.

Froggy, did yer know:

1. We be experiencin somethin that players call lag, but tis more than that? We seem ter be bout 3-5 min behind the game. (This maketh siege wars basically unplayable.)
2. When me useres the term, "we" in the above statement, me meaneth almost all yer gamin population. Not some, not few, not many. Almost all. (Bout three outta 30 don't have this problem; a terrible ratio.)
3. This tends ter happen bout 20 minutes inter siege, until then, it runneth fairly well.
4. This tis not a new problem, there be a few players who hast been round long nough ter remember this bein a problem afore, which twas finally fixed. (Shouldn't it be easier ter fix again?)
5. This has been going on since the server move. Isn't this over two weeks now?
6. Your players be leavin. Not all, yet. But many. (Not jus a few either.) Me own guild hast been decimated, an now me be lookin fer a new home.
7. Point six be hard on yer enconomy, and ours. Please fix siege? Tell us yer fixin it? Show us somethin, plz? At least tell us yer understand what we be sayin?
8. Server restarts don't seem ter be helpin, me recommendeth somethin stronger.

Server Migration = Game Code defected and Migrated Elsewhere  in the End its probably the actual Code, server hardware is probably good, just transfering already Poorly Coded content resulted in Code Running away to be Free.
