1- here in home we have 3 players, with respective toons and computers. All connected to a wireless router connected to our Internet Services Provider cable modem. Our average ping is 160-200 ms. We live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our connection is very stable with no more than few minutes offline a month.
2- We play at the same time with no performance problems out of siege.
3- Before server transfer siege was played with only rare lag or crash.
4- After server transfer, all in guild had lag problems but not in the same day. We use to have just 8-10 players defending our guild. I would say at least one or two players always are less affected. Interesting, some days I was lagging and my wife right on my side was not, other days my wife was lagging and siege was smooth to me, and other days both were lagging.
5- this current siege lag is different from usual lag I had in game. The lag I was used happens whe we have a lot of players using skills too closer to each other. Good examples, a full raid killing the Ant Queen or doing the Dalanis events in the good old days. In this situation we could see frame rate decreasing down to 1-2 fps and increasing ping. It appears we were watching a slow motion movie. The current siege lag is totally different. I can move as usual most time, the main problem is that when I use a skill it tooks several seconds and even minutes to appear on my screen. Another annoying problem is the boomerang effect in which you walk a bit and it seems you are ported back.
6- I use to get herald in my guild and I was surprised one day when someone asked fearless and I pressed the button and the effect took more than 1 minute to appear to me, but it appeared at my wife's computer just upon I pressed the button. It is interesting because it is a skill I use but affects all guildies playing in siege. For players without lag it works in the normal time frame despite it takes lots of time to appear to me. Another interesting point, I could defend a tower playing in my computer but watching my wife's computer screen because I was lagging and she was not. The last evidence of this time warp effect is when siege is finished and several players are still getting messages tha someone is attacking a tower. Real fun if not sad.
My 2 cents humble conclusion: client side is ok and sending information like walking and using of skills in normal time to server and the server can handle this input and relay to several clients in normal time frame but not to all. More, it is random and sometimes it is solved when you turn off computer and restart it. Since it started after server transfer, I guess it is a network problem. Perhaps a firewall rule or a routing algorithim that relays the info to some clients using a longer path or with lots of retries.
THIS.
We have explained and explained, we have begged and pleaded for someone at FI to actually come and try siege with us to see this issue first hand! Where on earth are the "We are siegeing with you guys, we can see the problems, we're trying different fixes" posts from FI???
Instead we get sales that aren't sales combined with a vast and echoing silence.
Noto will not siege again until this is fixed. If we still have enough people to be called a guild when it IS fixed, we'll talk about it.
Wake up FI, and smell the lost profits. Someone get Dionaea a bigger coffee. We know that you can't fix it yourself Dio, but it sure as heck would help my blood pressure to hear from someone, anyone, that the problem has and is being thoroughly investigated, and a real fix is on the way.
