I am the guild leader of Condemned..This was always avaliable..Nobody did it because you could bleed a gate. Since they took that away we resort to other siege strategies..This is legal always has been.. A seige weapon used against a siege defense. Sorry you lost Acet..Even though you wanted to be rude about siege deaths...Still you lost :) Have a nice day :)

Working as intended is something that should be used here.

This is new as I used to setup a 8 FoT box outside gates and they never used to damage the gate itself, the purpose of it was to catch players using the gate to leave or anyone that is sneaking out. We all understand this strategy, it is fine and acceptable, don't like it? Use a mage or someone to aoe them away, which normally happens.

Anyhow, this is new(er) and highly unlikely that something which has done no damage to anyone when used since the siege was released to all of a sudden be the thing to dmg the gates. It's stupid to try to pretend that this guild Condemned did something special, they most likely found out by accident and took advantage of it.

From a developers standpoint, that is by definition an exploit. Sorry, the fot aren't supposed to do damage.

An exploit, in video games, is the use of a bug or design flaw including glitches, rates, hit boxes, or speed, etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers. (google search the definition of exploit.)

FOTs are not designed to burn gates.

Breaking this down... applying this and a little common sense we get "Use of a bug or design flaw by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers."

I'm sorry, I did not realize you were on the design team...if so I may have something to say...WTF?

And, yeah, FoT's do damage, always have as far as I remember. Pisses me off when tey kill balloons before I can get there.

So tonight we had a fun war against Condemned or at least it was fun in the beginning I should say.
Then we found out their rogue: Thestalos was putting up faces all around our gates. This takes down the gate in about 2~3 minutes once you have enough down. It was very cute indeed yet I would consider this as much of an exploit as jumping over castle walls.

Is this an exploit or no? If not, I'll consider doing this every siege from now on :) Please let me know kthx <3

Can someone please explain to me how a Face of Treachery causes damage of any type lol? Also that pic don't prove they downed the gate with faces, it just shows a open gate and faces down to keep it from being repaired which is a strategy i have seen many times.

I am against hacks/glitches/exploits

I don't really see this as an exploit. Could be considered immorale gameplay tactics
Same level as vanity pets

I have placed FoT's at a gate we just took down, never thought it would attack a live gate.

Lets look at it this way; can either side use the face of treachery the same way? Obviously yes. So neither side is getting an unfair advantage. If RoM updated the text description of the FoT to say that it did minor damage to seige buildings, then everyone would have the same information. Is your complaint that all guilds don't have the same information about FoT? Since you know that information now, is your compaint void?
Sending a Warden Pet thru a gate or Shadowstepping is class specific. Not all guilds have Wardens/Rogues so i can see that as being an unfair advantage.
I vote that the siege rules are changed slightly every week. So there is never any "best" strategy and guilds are rewarded that work as a team and are versitile, problem solvers. Or would this give "team players" an unfair advantage?

This is in no way a form of exploit at all, nor is it even close to being "immoral gameplay". Although I did not know that Faces could deal damage at all, it is perfectly a legit way to take down a gate, if it does deal damage. Same thing as placing Flame Towers near an opponent's gate. Flame Towers attack the gate. Is that an exploit? Are people complaining about that as well? No. It is your own fault for allowing an enemy to place that many defenses and siege weapons at your gate. These contraptions are used to impede your enemy from advancing or attacking, and it did exactly that. With the merits needed to drop all those faces to actually deal that much damage, they could have gotten 3 scrolls and taken the gate down, and in a much quicker time too. And talk about inefficiency. A mage can kill all the faces with 1 or 2 thunderstorms. A warrior can kill them with 1 or 2 AoEs. A warden can kill them with a nerfed Frantic Briar. 3 scrolls can be used in 5 seconds while Fearless, where the Face's method will take well over a minute. Either way, it's the same thing. Choose whatever method you want.

I have never seen damage done by a FoT. In fact when im on my rogue alt and in hide, it wont even take me out of hide. All it does is makes me slow and flop on the ground.. nothing else. Im guessing the other guild used a scroll or a tornado or something but it just doesnt seem likely that a FoT of all things did damage to a gate.

Yes, they do damage, ever seen a balloon attacking a face? If you let it go on long enough, the balloon dies.

So my answer to the OP is.. if u think wasting a huge chunck of ur guilds merits on FoTs to place clustered in ts range is gonna help u burn down a gate then by all means go right ahead lol. I dont find this to be a exploit at all.. just a waste of siege resources that could be used to purchase scrolls that actually do damage to the gates :p

It really shouldent be considered an exploit. Faces deal a very small amount of damage (like...100 points of damage or less). Which is why no one really ever notices. A face by itself dose nothing. A few hundred still do nothing if you take them out. If you leave them unwatched for like 15 minutes, they might take out a gate, but why would you just sit there and let HUNDREDS of unguarded faces take out your gate?

All you have to do is read what we are told a treachery should do:

A strange machine that regularly casts curses.
It inflicts all enemies within range with Slow and
causes them difficulties in advancing.

The slow effect would not take the gate down.

So this would be an exploit and if used against our guild, expect to be screen shot and turned in!

whats the name of your guild so i can be sure to use this on yall. it is not an exploit, if it indeed takes a gate down. ur statement is the same as saying u cant use flame towers , whatever.

There is no need for private attacks here.

Flame towers by definition do damage and can take down a gate if given time.

But treacheries just make you flip flop. I have not seen a treachery do damage. I have seen the balloons take out treacheries but not the other way around. I am always healing our treacheries where balloons have damaged them.

And as for my guild, we are going to be on the look out for those using treacheries in this fashion and will be making sure they aren't there long enough to take down our gates.

37

Tuesday, July 24th 2012, 2:47am

If you let them put that many treacheries down and let those treacheries stay down right next to the gate.. it is sooo your own damn fault that your gate was taken down. Treacheries are a one shot. A mage could thunderstorm a hundred of them down in one go.

Lol the guild tonight tried to use it on us since the inception of this topic, popped up an invis and put up a ton of faces we watch our gates but have to say that with the number they had it drained the gate ridiculously fast and I can see how this is being asked if it's an exploit or not.

The more you have on there the faster it goes I mean there's really no limit to how many you can put down at once and for a guild that farms tons of merits that could be very bad, I still prefer tornado and scrolls but eh.
