Carpentry encyclopaedia how does it work?

Hi all. I'm thinking of buying a carpentry encyclopaedia but the description in the CS couldn't possibly be more vague. What does it actually do? Do you have to sit in your house and read it or does it work when you're offline as long as it's equipped and you're in your house? What kind of skill increases could a level 32 carpenter expect and over what course of time?

Thanks so much for any help. As ever, the CS is the very worst place to go for information on the items they sell there.

From what I've understood, all of the encyclopedias are an OK thing to use for the 0-20 skill ones, but the 20-40 ones, start loosing their effect, and the 40-60 ones are near useless ...

the way they work, is that when you're in your house, you right click it from your item shop backpack, and you'll start reading ... it's like casting. When it completes the "cast" you'll get some skill up. The higher you are, the less you'll get out of the book. After a "cast" of the book, one second later it will start reading again. As long as you don't move, you'll keep studying. So, instead of logging out you would sit in your house, click the book to start reading, then proceed to alt-tab, or just shut off your monitor ^^

When the book was on sale for cooking I picked it up. Mainly because while I am at work I can run the game on my 2nd computer and just read for 9 hrs a day.

It worked very well for getting to lvl 20. I plan on picking up the alc 1-20 or cooking 20-40 when it goes on sale to try the same thing again. After reading the above post I may skip the 20-40 since it is very slow. You only gain .01 - .03 xp points for each read. Well you also can gain 0 points so keep in mind that it's not a guaranteed gain of XP on every cast.

I had the 21-40 one and gained approximately 1% per hour while using it. It is NOT worth buying at all... takes over 4 days of being logged in and sitting in your house to gain a single level.

I have the 21-40 now and its ok. Not nearly as good as the 1-20 but I stay logged in overnight and through the day and come home from work and I've gained a significant amount of crafting skill.

This is not a replacement for getting the skills up on your own - its a supplement. Fewer mats needed to get to the next level. If you plan on only using this while logged in, it would be a complete waste of diamonds.

the books are really good for the lvl 1-20 range, i would say dont wast your money on the 20-40 book like i did
basicly you go into your and right click it.
you get an action bar/progress bar takes about 8 secs to complete, and you gain 0.00-0.04% of level. the book auto starts the progress bar and this continues till you stop.
In the lvl 1-20 book i got a level a day as i would afk when i went to work. I found as i got closer to 20, the gain of 0.00 seemed to happen much more.
Seeing how it took me a month to level to 20, i figured buying the 2nd book lvl 22-40 would be awesome, i gain .30 to .50 of a level a day. I now just afk farm mats from my guild castle, and don't bother with the book at all, a days afk farming nets me 10 combines at 3-5% exp per, and i get gear to sell from that so win win.

It's been a long time, so let me see if I can remember how to do this...ah, I remember now!

Congratulations! You are the latest recipient of the world-famous and extremely coveted "Mal's Necro Thread Of The Year Award" (TM, Pat.Pending)! You have successfully managed to dredge up a long-lost and forgotten thread from the bottom of the deepest parts of the Ancient Thread Ocean! Bravo! Brava!

BTW, those Encyclopedias are both a waste of diamonds and time.

So I'm almost at lvl 66 in carpentry. I'm not happy about spending mems for mats and since pet crafting stops at 60 I'm asking what options I have. Anyone in the same position as me?

Have you ever heard of gathering????

I should have never told anyone last night that the refining was working, so your not even lvl 75 in carpentry and got a long long ways to go still but you go and buy up all the freakn Dark Silver Nails.

The encyclopedias are not very effective past low levels. As I recall, they are pretty much moot past level 30 of any of the skills.

There is a crafting festival, I believe it starts in near april, that can help a little bit with crafting skills. They sold festival only mats( http://www.runesdatabase.com/item/209717…pentry-tool-set , http://www.runesdatabase.com/item/209716/pile-of-wood ) for festival only recipes(Recipe - Basic Wood Crafts Box) that make items that are useless( http://www.runesdatabase.com/item/209720…wood-crafts-box ). The whole purpose is to level the skill as these items are sold from the festival vendors for gold, so no need to gather resources.

Also, as kakita01 pointed out, you can go gather stuff out and about in Taborea.

For high level crafting you can use planting as source of mats as well. 2-3 toons with 10 pots - enough to progress.

Ya guess I need to create an alt. only have 1, just don't have the time to keep up with stuff already.

You can have 1000 nails, they will be useless to you unless you have access to refining, after the lvl 60 mats there is two ways to obtain the mats needed:

Planting ( as mentioned above ): the problem with having high level planting is this does not produce enough refined materials and requires you to be present to keep the plants producing. Big time sink if you ask me. So it may produce the raw mats needed your still left without a way to refine them.

Gathering : You will need two max level gatherers since they only allow you to take one craft past lvl 60. In the end thou this prob still the best option. Yet has it complications of needing the toon to gather being strong enough to gather ( at least strong enough to take a hit or two especially once you cross AKoR and beyond now ). Carpentry you want metal and wood to be able to refine all necessary materials.

As of right now you cannot purchase the rare materials from any vendors past level 60.

Thanks for granting me a good laugh for the day Sperle.....spent roughly 30mill gold on nails.
As I stated you still have a long ways to go before you will even be able to use them. Either a metric ton of Mem farmn or planting, gathering.

You can't seriously craft without alts or without spending toons for gold to get mats from AH.

At least 2 alts for gathering (3 if you decide to do more then 1 crafting) and then each crafting requries an alt. Reason is you can level only one craft past 60 (planting is not included). As gathering is rather boring and alts needs to be able to survive high level areas, I decided to go expensive route - I use pets to produce mats, then my gatherer levels by refining mats, and I drop all of them in guild. (walls and castle upgprade require 9M of each mat)

I found another way, buy all the mats I need out of AH, carpentry is at 67 and I'm still buying silver dark nails :-)

Well I think you hit 75 on Carpentry at least I saw you post a Clandestine staff in AH for sale.

Sooo gratz on hitting 75.

If your having a difficult time with refining let me know I can refine all mats in game of all levels. Stone Pine uggg such a pain to gather.

PS. The price on nails seems to have dropped a fair bit, hopes it does not rise again.
Also use talismans for return as you craft. The chests are good n cheap but not much on resale value.

On topic....The Encyclopedias are a huge waste of diamonds. IMO. Tried using them on tailoring and armorcrafting and the gain was minimal to the point not worth the amount paid.
