Yeah, I usually just bought my mats with honor points. They're very cheap.. like, do siege one or two times, and arena for like a day and you'll have more than enough mats. Additionally, AH mats, especially the beginning ones, are often cheap as hell, when white. You odn't need to buy blue or green, just refine the whites to green or blue yourself. I'm pretty sure i can find 100 ash wood for under 5k. Even less if you find "noobs" selling it. Other than that, between 5k mats, and cheap-butt honer mats, I made my blacksmithing from 0-45 in just a few days. Later on, as you know, you're going to need runes to make stuff, but buying a bag-o-runes isn't that expensive, especially for an OP scout like yourself.
Finally, you can choose to just farm the materials yourself, but, who wants to do that, lol?
