Yes you can make money from this, but not very efficiently.
But if your a low level the money is decent to get some gear.
It is infact worth the grind in the long shot if your planning on making instruments for high end stuff (HotO+ instances).

gathering is definitely worth it, as long as your very patient you just have to find the right spots to gather, each area has decent spots and you can switch channels as well in some areas to keep gathering.
