Production Failure

The other day I was working on leveling my Blacksmithing. My current skill is 51, and I was using the level 47 Shield of Flame recipe to level up, since I still had tons of Moon Silver & Tarslin Demon Wood to use, and you can actually make a bit of gold NPCing the excess shields.

So I set up a production run of 37 shields (the amount of space I had open in my backpack) and clicked the 'Craft' button. I ended up making only 27 of the 37 run on a recipe below my crafting level. That's an unusually high level (about 28%, if I did the math correctly) of failure, so i did some additional runs to see if a trend emerged. After several runs, I ended up with about a 15-20% failure rate.

So what I would like to know is, WHAT is the point of production failures other than to annoy the heck out of me & waste more of my time?

I have found that the cause of that is usually lag, because when you craft an item the materials turn gray in your backpack, and sometimes, because of lag, the materials are still gray by the time you craft the next one making it seem like you don't have the materials which causes it to fail. My suggestion to you would be to avoid crafting in populated places (i.e. Varanas or Logar) and/or turn your graphics all the way down before you start. Hope this helps:).

I never considered the possibility that lag could cause production failure, but I was crafting in Obsidian Stronghold and I didn't notice any significant lag.
