Crafting in General Sucks

Hello

Caution, this is a rant, but IMHO, a much-needed one.

/Rant

Ok, in an effort to move toward lvl 70 in crafting (finally made 67), I crafted 233 white items (lvl 66) and got a whopping ~50% towards a level. Of those items, 3 had 2 slots, all low-dura white items; 5 were blue (2 OD, 101 and 102), 24 green items (did not count the OD, not worth putting in AH :P), and the rest were white items (also not worth anything but selling to a vendor, bind-on-equip for whites, sheesh).

Now, at this level, I have to buy all my mats, ore sand and wood timber, because I cannot make them anymore. I can still gather the basic ore and wood with pots, but that is time-consuming and pretty useless without someone else to do turn them into useful things.

NOW, all the items I make sell to a vender for less than the cost of making them, I lose about 600gp on each item, too. (about 4M gold to get the mats, about another 140K lost to vendoring, and 50% increase in my crafting skill, joy joy joy!!!).

Major Problems with the crafting system now (specifically carpentry, but some applies to all crafts except cooking and alchemy):

1. White items (including upgrades): bind on equip

2. Missing Green Recipes: can not make blue items (also no greens upgraded to purple, or blue to purple or orange: the items most likely to sell at this level).

3. Lower chances of upgraded items (I remember greens from whites being ~1 in 10, blues from whites ~1 in 20), looks like blue is now ~1 in 50. (I thought it was gonna be worse, my first blue came at about 120 items)

4. Lower chances of 2 slots? not sure about this one, but I do remember getting them more often, maybe I am just unlucky :P

5. Crafted items are considerably less powerful than equal-level, same-rarity-color items, even ones that drop from regular mobs.

6. Stats (at least on white items) are few and very low compared to equal-level, same-rarity-color items. Most white items drop from mobs with a XII or higher on it; crafters have to hope for a IX. So can't even count on selling the item for its stat :P

Ciao,

Dave

Short update. Was able to sell most of the blue items and recap ~500k of my investment. Wow, now I can try to make it to lvl 68 carpenter with all that gold seeing as I am only 3.75M in the hole for half a level.

I hear your pain, this might come a little late but, after spending an equal amount of gold to level blacksmithing. I took up planting which gave me alot of mats for barely any gold and I leveled carpentry, blacksmithing to 70 and armor to 65 with way less damage to the pocket.

actually i made money, i leveled planting and crafting and from the extra mats i sold and got over 40m gold.

i got 4 of my guildmates to plant and lets just say they arent complaining. :)

My big problem with planting is that I am at level 20 and can not get a green dew drop to drop for me. My house is full and I have no money for expansion, so I only plant one pot at a time (most of my space is taken up by storage that is full).

I also have five housekeepers and do not see getting a 6th one anytime in the near future. So working with the one space I can create, I have planted 12 times so far (which equates to too much work), harvested always at 100% health, always use seeds of lower level like it suggests to increase my chances of getting special drops, and still no green dew drop.

I did get one +15% color chance improvement pot, whoop-de-do, wanted to trade it for the dew drop. Any suggestions on getting past lvl 20? And I think 40 and 60 will be worse.

I thank you for your suggestion, and wish it would work for me (still trying, but getting frustrated).

Do I agree or what!

It become SOOO long and expensive at some point! Leveled my cooking over 58 or 59 (can't remember) and it takes thousands of mats and runes THOUSANDS I tell you
