Crafting and Gathering above lvl 40

Gathering lvl should not inhibit the lvl you can craft.
Took all my gathering over lvl 40, not realizing that i could not take my carpentry over lvl 40?
But in order to do that, i need to drop the lvl of one of my gathering skills? (That took me forever to get to.)
That is so convoluted.

Gathering should not be linked to craft lvl'ing imho.

I fully agree to this and this issue has been raised many times on the EU boards too.
