How to get those 6 crafts to 40

Ok "supposedly" you are able to raise 6 crafts to Craftsmen level 40, 3 to Expert level 60 and 1 to Master 80. This is according to the craftsmen NPCS you speak to as well as many posts about the subject here and otherwise.

However, I am only able to get 3 to 40 at this time. I have 3 still sitting at level 20 and am unable to find any NPC to raise their level to 40. Have checked varanas NPCS that have a grayed out ! over their head - nothing. Have check OS NPCS also with a grayed out ! over their head - nothing.

I currently have 1 craft at 66, 2 crafts at 60, 3 at 40 and 3 at 20. These include mining, herbing and woodcutting (which I will always believe should NOT be included in crafting but it is what it is). So I indeed should also be able to level 1 more craft to 60 as well. But nobody's talking!

Where have I gone wrong and what do I do about it?

This is the crux of the matter. You can take all crafting and gathering to level 20. Then of those at level 20, you can advance only 6 of them to level 40. Once again, only 3 of those 6 can then go to 60. And finally only one of the final 3 can go to 80.

So in the end, you'll have 3 capped at 20, 3 at 40, 2 at 60, and 1 at 80 which as you stated above, is exactly what you have.

Planting is the odd one out, as it doesn't count towards these level caps, and can be raised to 80 regardless of the levels of your other skills.

While how you explain it makes sense, the way it works as a whole blows. Thank you for taking the time to set me straight on how screwed up this whole thing really is! I consider myself a farily intelligent person yet trying to figure this out made my head hurt. Appreciate your time!

I agree that the crafting and gathering skills should have separate level caps, because the way the current system works, once you get 1 crafting skill over level 60 you can no longer gather and process the raw materials you need to craft anything. This in effect forces you to rely on other players to provide those materials to you unless you have mastered planting. And even then, a master gatherer can easily provide more materials in a day than you can get from planting. The system works, but it could be better for the players.

Yes I currently am working on Alchemy to 80, HOWEVER to make anything using mats over 60 I'm screwed. Even IF I were to choose to purchase these the ones I need are never available. And I find no one willing to farm them. So it forces me and more than a few others I'm sure to level another toon in crafting JUST for this purpose. A Tiresome and unnecessary timesink.

I'm having the same problem. I'm on my way from level 75 to 80 on blacksmith and people are looking for gatherers and there just aren't any. I've been purchasing my mats with mems, but that's taking about 15k mems total plus gold. Low server population is making things really difficult. I already have my gathering skills to 60, I wish I could just help myself out. Leveling another toon is kind of out of the question unless you want to gear it a decent amount of gear because you can only level the refining to a certain point. That's what I have heard anyways.

The problem existed since I joined the game, before L60 cap, although it was obviously not as crucial when zones did not give 60+ recipes, so mastery was kinda moot.

These days many serious crafters have high level alts to do gathering. Crafters dont need to be high level because the only time they need to get to high level areas is when they want to buy recipes. Gatherers, on the other hand, have to survive in high level zones like LOM and TB to obtain the materials.

They are not that hard to raise. CoO/Xaviera made leveling alts a joke. The quest gear is better than ever, so with a little assist from your main, they can get to the XP cap at almost no cost. High value/low XP dailies (I am looking at you, fly raid) made the process easier as well.

Sure, I would love not to have to do that and have it all on my main. I would also love if pets could gather those high level mats, since manual gathering is boring, tedious, and even with XP capped alts, fairly dangerous. Not expecting that to happen.

And, yeah, planting being exempt from crafting level limits means you should have as many high level planter alts as you need mats. They are not expensive to raise, either, although time consuming.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.
