Major Change: Refining/Gathering

As of Patch 5.0.1 - Colorweave Festival

What does it mean?

  • Possibly easier to level up Herbalism, Mining and Woodcutting
  • Apparently no change in refining 2 (Blue) to 3 (Purple) - still need 6
  • Expect AH prices to drop for 2 (Blue), 3 (Purple) and above


Why did they make these changes? IDK, especially about the 6>4 refining change.
It will be nice to level up faster on Herbalism, Mining and Woodcutting

I'm looking forward to doing some gathering now on a few alts. I still would have like to have seen the gathering skills and crafting skills separated as far as level cap goes. This is at least a step in the right direction now.

Well having my herbalism at 80 already i obviously dislike this change as it will make my skill less valuable.

Yes, this sort of sucks for those who have already maxed out Herbalism, Mining or Woodcutting :(
However, now you can max out the others more easily :)

The speedup on gathering learning is significant. Whereas at level 66 it used to give me in low 0.3x% per gather, now it gives me in high 0.7x%. Whereas it used to require ~13000 refines to go up a level, now it takes ~5500.

Yes, those who have done it the hard way before, I am sure unhappy with the change. For the rest of us up-and-coming gatherers, this is very very nice. Combine that with reduction in material cost for blues from rather silly 6 greens to a lot more manageable 4, and gathering got a major boost with the patch.

Is crafting similarly sped up? I haven't tried it yet, but if it is, I might level up more crafters.

Here's a table with the old and new values for gathering. If you are more than 6 (7, 8, ...) level above the ressource, the values are devided by 2, (3, 4, ...).

Crafting hasn't changed.

I would like to see these changes for QoL for gathering & crafting (ideas taken from another game)

1) Reduce gathering & crafting time from 5 secs to 2 secs;

2) Give me all the mats from the gathering node all at once. When I click on a node & wait 5 secs, game should give me all the mats that are in the node be it 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. Currently its click & wait 5 secs then get 1, wait 5 more secs then get another 1 if node still there...

3) Remove chance of failure when crafting items that are close to your crafting level. Its just plain annoying when it happens & RoM has too many 'gambling'/game of chance in the game already.

Well, I'm glad they addressed crafting a bit, but what we have been asking for, begging for, and pleading for for quite a while now is for them to separate gathering from manufacturing. We should be able to level all three gathering skills independent of our manufacturing limitation. If not, then at least the two needed for our manufacturing.

Ah, well, not like froggy will listen. I sometimes wonder if they even speak American English.

This is multiplayer game. You should not able to do everything by yourself. You need to interact and cooperate with other players. That is why you can level up only single skill.

And just how many players out there actually interact when it comes to crafting? Usually it means those that can gather put the higher level mats on the AH for insane prices and those that cannot gather that high level their planting.

Or, the players make a bunch of alts and level them for gathering, but usually it is planting. How many toons do YOU have that have high level gathering/refining skills?

What the fleck does this have to with the thread? I could swear this was about how they made is much easier to level gathering to the max, and how the new lower refinement ratio for blues is likely to encourage more gatherers. Aren't there like several hundreds other threads on same old boring, extra boring, excruciatingly boring, claw my eyes out if I see it again boring suggestion on dealing with mastery limits?

I'm fine with the decreased manufacturing. What I would like to see is pet crafting fixed.

I have herbalism at 80, mining at 72 and woodcutting at 74, so yes some of us actually do more in this game than look at our Scrutinizer, and enjoy the other facets of this awesome game.
