Help! Targeting Pets

Ok, I know I have seen threads on how to not endlessly target pets (specifically in siege of course) but I can't find any of them :(.

Clever people, is there a way to macro that functionality without needing to use DiYCE? Ghostwolf tried to make a DiYCE for me once, and it was a disaster, we never could manage it. Macros I can manage.

Lately, and I don't think this is the game even, I think it's my client, I can't seem to target anything but pets. There will be a huge mob of 20 incoming baddies and I'll tab for a good 6-10 seconds before I get an actual player instead of a pet. It started happening about the same time people started becoming invisible to me- for some reason the client isn't loading people. It loads npc's and pets just fine, but usually about half of my siege I spend looking at phantom floating names with no people attached.

This used to happen every so often, and it used to be fixed when I relogged, but it happens all the damned time now, and relogging does not fix it. Grrrarrr. Because I see pets and no people, the pets seem "stickier" than the people, and so I tab through all of them before I get to the ones that are trying to kill me. Manually targeting won't work either, because I hover my mouse over the invisible people and nothing happens :(

Targeting in siege has become a nightmare. Anyone have any bright ideas?

There is a solution for it.

I do not really have a problem on your issue coz i use the old fashion way tab and mouse click.
You should got to macros and adding section of the forum. I am sure ghostwolf will be able to help you in your problem.

As much as I would like to say that I have solution to your problem - people would probably notice if I plagiarised Peryl's work. Evil people.

So look here, and no thanks to me.

Thank you so much Katalan! That was the thread I was searching for and couldn't find :)

Quaffy hopped on our vent last night and sent me Peryl's macros, so I should be good to go now, assuming I cut and pasted them properly.

Thanks to all of you, Quaffy especially (that was above and beyond the call of random-siege-opponent friendship duty for sure :))!

Now, if I can just remember how to map that macro to my Tab key, I'll be in business lol.

@CROM180, I think Ghostwolf really is retired, he's in our guild and hasn't checked in with us in almost a week- hasn't even popped in vent to chat :(. He's always saying he's gonna retire, and never actually did before, but I have a very bad feeling about this... I think he may have really gone to the Dark Side for good. We miss him like crazy. You guys here in the Addon/Macro forums know just how much of an asset he was to the RoM community, and what a loss we've all suffered with both him and Peryl gone... the loss is incalculable.

I'm just a random nub when it comes to addons and macros, but I use a lot of them daily, and I wouldn't even give a thought to the amount of work that goes into them if I didn't know Ghostwolf personally. How many people are out there using the fruits of their labors and don't even know it?

Anyway, I'm starting to depress myself- all I'm trying to say is thank you to all the smarties that have made RoM a more fun game to play :) Mavoc, Peryl and Ghostwolf are the ones I know by name, and to all the unsung code-writing heroes, many many thanks :)

Indeed.

Now, if I can just remember how to map that macro to my Tab key, I'll be in business lol.

First put your macro on an action bar slot, and figure out which slot number it is on that particular bar. Slots are numbers from left to right, top to bottom (you should end up with a number from 1 to 20):
  • Main Bar -- action bar that normally appears at the bottom
  • Upper Bar -- just above the main bar
  • Right Bar -- this is the vertical bar on the far right of the screen
  • Left Bar -- this is the vertical bar that is immediately to the left of the Right Bar

Open the key bindings screen from the main menu (hit ESC to bring it up) and select Key Bindings.

Now search for the bindings for the correct bar and slot you put your macro in and set it to the desired key. Just press the button next to the binding list, then type the key you want to set it to. You can have two bindings per entry, I suggest also setting a SHIFT-key version as well since that macro will detect if the shift key is pressed.

If you use a key that is already bound, the previous entry is removed, so if you use TAB for example, the old, normal tab targeting binding will be erased.

I think he is, though I've also heard that his computer went kablooie, so that too may be a reason he hasn't been around.

Thanks! Even though I don't do add-ons any more, it still means a lot. It's part of why we do it.
