Using Emoticons without sending messages to chat

Don't you just hate it when a new player discovers them? The spamming is horrible, you don't want that in an instance.

Is there a way to use them without sending messages to chat so it doesn't spam?

You can right click the general chat tab and click Channel Settings then Uncheck the "Emote" box
