Frogster's new MMORPG Classes look similar to ROM?

Looks like Froggy is releasing a new MMORPG called Eligium.
Cinematic trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3gquyBCwLk

The classes look kinda like rom ones... You've got a Knight aggroing mobs, a mage, and even a scout using a skill that looks like a fire version of Shatterstar Storm, as well as a Demon Lord.

Interesting, but cinematic footage doesn't really mean much. I'll hold on an opinion until I see game footage.

Edit
A bit more info from Zam: http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=27104 (<< the story link this time)
Check the screenshots too. They even got green women (http://www.zam.com/Im/image/gallery/203886)
Captain Kirk would be happy :)

Eligium is developed by Shando, who is the dev house for Dragon Nest, A game that has been out in korea for 2 years and is now in open beta for the US and south eastern Asia regions.
If the way the dragon nest client function, runs and looks (as far as what has been done developer side) is any indication of how Eligium will be then we have something amazing to look forward too.

DN lacks the engrished quest and NPC dialogues this game has despite the developer (shando) being a korean company. You can understand the lore, and the storyline built around it.
Quests aren't confusing or vague.
The user UI is simple yet intuitive and makes for an easy learning curve.
The game play is unique (think devil may cry meets crystal chronicles meets kingdom hearts)
What does all that have to do with Eligium?
Shando has produced an amazing game in Dragons nest, It shows maturity as a dev house, it shows care for the products they are producing and shows that they are willing to put the needed polish on their game before sending it out to the world.

The client so far is very very stable (I've only crashed once and it was entirely MY fault)

Now thats not to say DN wasn't some sort of fluke, I've never played any other games developed by shando, but if it is an indication of the care and polish they afford to their games, Eligium should turn out well.

I can't wait to see if I get into the beta.

I fixed the link to the story, had it going to that same image...

Anyway, still sounds interesting, but I'll still hold any opinions until I start to see gameplay footage. Though if Shando really does hold a title to put polish on it, I applaud them as that is getting rare in the industry. Too often developers rush titles out the door (though not always through any fault of their own).

Does anyone know whether or not this game is to be a F2P, like RoM, where you buy your way to the top, or will it be a monthly subscription?

If it's F2P I won't even consider it.

That's not to say, however, if it's P2P tha I'll play it.

After this game, I'm exceptionally skeptical about everything FAI and RW make or incorperate.

Frogster has the publishing rights for Europe and North America. Runewaker isn't the developer, Shando is. Sooooo...

I sighed pretty hard at this.

I know RW isn't the developer.

I know FAI (frogster america incorperated - the entire company) is publishing it.

I'm skeptical because FAI is publishing it.

I am skeptical about RW because of RoM, a completely separwte ststement.

http://www.dotmmo.com/eligium-3185.html

Quoted

According to the person familiar with both Snail Games and Frogster, Eligium is licensed for Frogster to be published in European Market with a deal of $ 100K upfront fees and 10% revenue share.
Bolding mine. Although I do see some other articles that say that it is licensed for both US and EU. And official site at www.eligium.com does have US flag.

Also of potential interest, this game is apparently a sequel to a failed game.

Quoted

As a matter of fact, Eligium, previously known as Magic World Online 2, was officially released in China in the winter of 2010. To date, Ingle Games has published Magic World Online in 2007 and till now, there have been 7 servers available, but due to the inactive number of players, the game is going to close down.
Bolding mine again.

As for it failing in china, that doesn't really mean a whole lot..
Hell Radiant arcana and Runes of Magic are two completely different games, despite being.. the same damn game.

I'd bet RoM in its current state (screwed up economy aside) wouldn't fly in Taiwan. In fact from what I've seen, they don't even have SW or PVP and are a whole chapter or more behind us in content.
Us Americans and the Europeans like a whole different flavor than some of the asain markets when it comes to our MMO soup.
Grind fest any one?
almost a complete lack of quest?
Will you take that order with out bones, because in china you'd have too.( see the complete and utter buchering of WoW's graphics due to the Chinese distaste for skeletons and innards.)
What may fail in one market can flourish in another, although it falls on the developer and publisher to market the game and build it to which ever market is most suited.

If the game is a copy/redo/sequel of that game and it is failing in china it may be failing for all the same reasons it could flourish in European and US markets. And I'd blame the publisher in this case, sounds like they may have marketed it to the wrong crowd.

But....We won't know till it's out.

I don't think Ingle is running chinese version. The website linked in article looked like US. Of course, it is always possible that the publisher is the cause of the failure (and I am not sure why they say it is down, since the web site at least is up). Might be error in article.

Nor does it mean that #2 is going to follow #1. Developers learn, so in some cases games which meet with moderate success get sequels where the mistakes made in the original are not repeated.

That said, the gameplay videos for chinese version (and there are more of them, if you follow the youtube's related video links) show me something that for me is eminently skippable. While videos only tell a part of what gameplay is like, that still looks like a so-so action fest.
