frogster is only in charge concering IS
all things concerning the programming of the game are in charge of rw

so everything which goes wrong ingame is
the battlefield of rw !

So tell me what if the warden fix by a third party ends up creating a far worse problem, then FA says "I know we endorsed this but you have to reinstall the game."

FA set a bad precedence promoting this. Be careful is all I'm saying

Ebilone

Considering the removal of the warden fix is only the deletion of a folder you create yourself in your RoM install directory, it wouldn't require a reinstall.

We know, you don't like 3rd-party fixes and would rather have Wardens banned from siege. Enough already.

I can understand you have a chip on your warden shoulder, but I was using it as an example. I saw someone complain about being crashed, then Kalvan the FM directed them to use the "fix", well its not an official fix.

If you all believe third parties should be allowed to fix the game then that is fine but at some point it is going to go bad. Like I said these are my opinions, I use add ons to help me see rotation DPS, threat meter, ECT BUT it should enhance the gaming experience not the game itself.

The day Rom lost control was the day they said "use this third party fix" I'm okay with you disagreeing with me.

I would just like to see problems get fixed in a timely matter. I don't want to see pop-a-mole problems happening whenever they fix something. I am not asking for the world here. I like the game, i can tolerate the business model, I just want to see the game work.

Close. Actually that was the day Gameforge/Frogster/Runewaker ADMITTED to losing control. They lost control long long ago.

Win. And you're right, I apologize for my snark - I get annoyed that we have to pull through an unofficial addition in order to play the game as well. The fact that as a warden primary class we cannot siege without the fix as we'll cause crashing for our opponents as well as guild members isn't just annoying, it's plain stupid, and should have been fixed when it was originally discovered.

I wouldn't call it a fix or modification - since you're only removing the display of the models themselves (if we had to go an modify the actual file containing the texture which causes the crash...well, that would be a fix, which would probably get picked up/overwritten on the next patch release).

Maps are not working exactly 2 weeks now, and tomorrow is another maintenance day, so let's see if that get's resolved.

That has been announced already. EU frogs posted that map fix is in tomorrow's patch, as is re-enabling macros.

So, the whole "relying on third party to fix their problems" argument is quite specious. They are not. The bug showed up only two weeks ago, which is only one patch opportunity away. Expecting to get a patch a week is unreasonable rate.

May I remind everyone of Autopsy and the huge showstopper it turned out to be? Wanna complain about turnaround on that, you'll have a point. That was unreasonably slow. What we have now is perfectly fine. That doesn't mean that there are not longstanding issues that need to be addressed, sure... but they are getting the immediate stuff fixed relatively fast.

Good conversation and debate on both sides here, but this thread just got buried into a part of the forum it doesn't even remotely belong in.

Something on here someone doesn't want the others seeing? Couldn't close it cause were all quite civil.

this just in, vwiffo works for frogster...

2 weeks is too long. detrimental issues like crashing 20 times in one SW should be hot fixed in a couple days. I know its hard to believe but most other games (f2p or not) get updated way more often and bugs are fixed faster. It's bad for business to keep the bugs exploding like they are and two years into the games release. This si the kind of stuff that can kill a game.

why was this moved?

This is a general discussion about the game. Why move it here?

So stupid... this is a serious discussion that the community needs to talk about....

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I heard that "working for frogster" line several times. Meh... But, I am a programmer for over 25 years, which is more than most people on the forum have been alive.

This dog won't bark, unless you want to hear the "old developer" stories that rival Abe Simpson's. That I can oblige with.

Agree with ebil... what the heck is this thread doing in the tavern forum? Tavern is for fanfic and role playing, not discussion of the game development.

Edit...

Aha. Now in Open Chat. Lots more reasonable, although it is game discussion so probably should've stayed there (and by "discussion" I mean "thinly disguised complainathon")

Yup, they don't like the negative feedback right in the main forum, so they bury it here to drift away. Sad.

So now FA is killing discussion by moving topic into proper sub-forum...

I'm scared by amount of aggro developing here... poor knights, what they have to keep up with... :D

The good old times when games were very stable....

Not sure how many kids would happen to know what this is... :) Really good old days... and we survived with that... :)

To clear up some earlier confusion... RoM is a Taiwanese game in the sense that Runewaker is the developer. Frogster Interactive is based in Germany and they are responsible for adapting it and distributing it to the European and English-speaking community. From there we have Frogster America, based in California in the US and that's an extention of Frogster Interactive that brings the games from Europe to North America.

In terms of control, Runewaker has all or almost all the control of this game. They are responsible for the content, the patches, the fixes, etc. These are then passed on to Frogster who translates it (I presume) and then distributes it to all of us in Europe and North America. Frogster Interactive (in EU) and Frogster America (in US) have control over things like events and the npcs for events as well as the cash shop prices. That's why EU servers get different sales than US servers. That's also why EU servers have gold>dia sellers and US servers have Owenstein in Obsidian. Beyond that, I don't think they have much control of the game itself. They're just here to provide local customer service.

The game as a whole though just needs an overhaul plain and simple. There are so many things wrong with it that have been ignored for too long and where we are now is a consequence of that. That type of quality goes directly back to Runewaker. I have no idea what they're doing over there, but I was not impressed with their Facebook. >_> Amazing how their staff has time to dress up as french maids and show girls, but not to fix bugs. -_- Gonna call shenanigans on that.
Kinda why I have no qualms over playing RoM less and less, finding better things to do with my time.

(@ OP: Sorry your thread was moved... still a really valid thread though)

1) Yes, localization is done by Frogster EU, or at least someone associated with them.

2) Game company employees dressing up in weird costumes (especially in what looks to be some kind of convention setting)? Say it isn't so! Make them put on 3-piece suits, will ya?

3) This game was years ahead of its time, and the reason I loaned money to coworker to buy the computer in question. No Guru messages for me, though.

4) What? This is Open Chat. I can ramble

Actually it's their office of operations. But I can understand the confusion. The convention pictures are the ones with all the gamer people in it and a bunch of computers with RoM on the screen. The office pictures are the ones with the venetian blinds and the office cubicles in the background.
What would be great is if the cosplay was saved for the conventions instead of the office X_X Believe me, I am all in favor of cosplay and the quality of the design of such costumes...but in the work place? X_X There's a time for work and a time for play... (Secretly Runewaker must be the name of a cosplay convention, not a gaming studio ^.^; )

Nope... The year was 1985 and Wizardry was one of the premier RPGs on PC

Unfortunately, it has a small flaw. It used a proprietary storage system, and if that system saw storage that was not formatted for it, it got confused and would not start. After 3 or 4 month of arguing with Sir-Tech, I did what all the other people did. I disconnected hard drive (and that means disconnected by unplugging the cable, not just disabling it in BIOS). Then it would run. Needless to say, constantly plugging and unplugging the drive was no fun, but hey... had to do it.

The game linked above is Dungeon Master, by company called FTL Games. It revolutionized gaming. Real time, color, ingenious level design, and one of the best uses of sound ever. You had to play it with stereo headphones. Ignoring audio cues would lead to quick demise - the volume and the direction of monster noises would alert you to danger. Arguably one of the most important and influential RPGs on computers.

PC port of the game took over two years.

So, you are going to have to excuse me if I place "there hasn't been a patch this week, five whole days after the problem was reported; they must be abandoning game" type of threads in their proper contest.

I bought mine in Fall 1981. I remember playing it over the Thanksgiving weekend.
