Society has been overusing Troll Spray for over a decade now... Overused to the point where Troll genetics have mutated to become resistant to various Trollicides.
Similar to how Fleming warned that the overuse of Penicillin would result in resistant microbes... We're now experiencing a generation where Troll's can grow freely, and are able to infect those around them with a high rate of success.
Not to mention all of those CFC's that are being thrown in to the atmosphere as a result of the easy-to-use spray.
